The 2012 United States Senate election in Vermont will be held on November 6, 2012, alongside a presidential election, other elections to the United States Congress, as well as various state and local elections. Incumbent Independent U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders is running for re-election to a second term.
Background
Then-U.S. representative Bernie Sanders, an independent and self-described socialist was elected with 65% of the vote in the 2006 U.S. senatorial election in Vermont.

Sanders has also received the endorsement of the Vermont Progressive Party, but is expected to decline both the Democratic and Progressive nominations after the primary.
