Fair use in William Scott

The image is used in an article about art and life of the artist William Scott and is used for the purposes of identification. It is considered that this increases the reader's understanding of the subject, and hence its educational value. The image is low resolution and only uses a portion (approximately one-quarter) of the original image. It is considered that this usage will not cause commercial harm to the copyright holder. It is believed that this is fair use and does not infringe copyright. There is no known free alternative available, and one cannot be made as the subject died in 1989.
