It is part of Kurnool district. Former President of India Neelam Sanjiva Reddy hailed from Nandyal. Former Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao got elected from Nandyal with highest majority of seats in the parliament of India.
Around it we can see 9 temples of lord Shiva(Called Nava Nandi).Among them famous is Mahanandhi.The temple of Mahanandhi has its history.It has big pond in which water is very pure.It is known that no body knows where water coming from in the hills.This temple is surrounded by Nalamalla forest. we can see a pleasent atmosphere with tourists from all over the south India
