A special election for South Carolina's 1st congressional district will be held in the spring of 2013 following the resignation of Tim Scott to fill the United States Senate seat previously held by Jim DeMint.

The filing period for candidates lasts between January 18 and January 28 of 2013. The special primary election is scheduled for March 19, 2013. If a candidate in neither primary gains 50 percent of the vote, a runoff election with the two top candidates will happen on April 2, 2013. The general election will occur on May 7, 2013.
