The Capital town of Kalymnos is the Port of Pothia, which is situated in a natural amphitheatre.

The town features Italianate architecture, a silver-domed Cathedral, and the Monastery of St Savvas, perched on a hilltop overlooking the town. Furthermore, three museums exist containing information about sponge diving and local folklore.
