Macedonism (Macedonian: Македонизам, Bulgarian: Македонизъм) is a term used to describe the official opinion in the Republic of Macedonia about the non-Bulgarian origin of the Macedonians and non-Bulgarian origin of the Macedonian language. According to it, the following are the major clams of the Macedonism supporters:

  1. The inhabitants of the contemporary region of Macedonia constitute a separate ethnic group (independent of their self-determination).
  2. The inhabitants of the Republic of Macedonia are the descendents of the people of Ancient Macedon
  3. There existed a distinct Macedonian national consciousness in the Middle Ages, culminating with the rule of Tsar Samuil and his Macedonian kingdom.
