Syria is a Middle-Eastern country that borders on Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey.
Syria is a temporary member of the UN Security Council for 2002 through 2003. Its U.N. ambassador, Mikhail Webhe serves as president of the Security Council during June 2002.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad has its headquarters in Syria. The U.S. placed Syria on its list of state sponsors of terrorism in 1994.
