Iranian Dynasty, named after Sasan, an ancestor of Ardashir I, who founded the family fortunes in Ad 224. Under his leadership, Persia defeated the Parthians and created a major but fluctuating empire extending from the Roman and Byzantine frontier in the west to centeral asia where it adsorbed most of the territories of the Kashans. They were finally eclipsed by the Islamic invasions of 637-51
