The Little Monsters is the term used to describe any Lady Gaga fans.

Monster claw (known as Paw/s Up). Official symbol of Monster community.
Monster claw (known as Paw/s Up). Official symbol of Monster community.

Origin

While working on her Born This Way, Lady Gaga developed the theme of monster, both in physical form, and to describe her inner fear (Monster of Death, Alcohol, Drugs, etc.). During the summer of 2009, she first started to use the name during her live performances to refer her fans. The name fit them well because her fans crawl and scream during her show like monsters would do. Little Monsters are considered to be "the biggest, most powerful, and hated fanbase in the world", with over 300 million members, although they are often referring themselves as a family.

Mother Monster

Stylized as Mother Mons†er, it is the term used to describe Lady Gaga. It was not until the term was used by a fan who met her in Chicago, did she start using it herself. Gaga later added it to her Twitter-bio. Other variations include Mommy Monster, Mama Monster, Monster Queen and/or Momma Monster.

The monster claw

The international symbol is a claw made with the hand, like in the music video of Bad Romance. The terms "little monsters" and "monsters" are both correct to refer to the fans of Lady Gaga music, art, and fashion. During The Monster Ball, Lady Gaga saw a fan in Boston greet another fan with the claw hand, and that's when she knew that was the "Little Monsters" symbol. For her performance at the 52nd Grammy Awards, Elton John and Lady Gaga played a custom-crafted Baldwin piano by Terence Koh "inspired by and in honor of my little monsters, and their sweet little hands".

The Monster Claw is also known as the Monster Paw, both Gaga and her Little Monsters will use the term "Monsterpaws Up" or "Paws Up" to show they agree with something or to show how like Gaga they are inspired by art, music & fashion and have an undying passion for art like she does.

Other terms

Both Gaga and her Little Monsters will use the terms Monsterlove, Monsterhugs or Monsterkisses to show their compassion for each other. Little Monsters are based on the principle of love of self and others.

Little monsters (social networking site)

Little Monsters is a social networking service and website dedicated to Little Monsters, the fans of Lady Gaga. The community was created by the Blackplane, a company co-founded by Troy Carter.

Background

In late 2010, Lady Gaga called Troy Carter. She was on the Sony lot, where she'd just seen an advance screening of The Social Network. "Why don't we start one of those for my fans?" she asked." From there, Blackplane was founded and it first community became Little Monsters. In May of 2011, a launch page was created asking people to sign in with their Facebook Connect accounts. The first 1,000 people, along with a select few Lady Gaga community "tastemakers", got the first 1,000 invitations to the site for the beta launch in February of 2012. The website was launched in July of 2012.

Monstervision

The name "Monstervision" is a mix between "Monsters" (fan) and "Gagavision" (her online series). It's the name of video blog replacing Transmission Gagavision and is posted on Little Monsters.
