Revision as of 17:11, 3 June 2006 by KleenupKrew (talk | contribs) (+ pic)(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff)Hello! Here are some guidelines when editing Misplaced Pages articles:
- All information should be specifically sourced. This especially goes for criticism or derogatory content in articles. It is not enough to put a list of references at the bottom of an article. Often that is an excuse to put anything at all in the article, and justify it on the grounds that "references" are cited.
- Ideally, criticism should cite the specific person making the criticism, and the specific relevant quote. It is not enough to say "critics say that..." or "many people disagree with...". Avoid weasel words, sweeping generalizations, and categorization using defamatory words.
- Avoid the use of neologisms and disputed concepts in articles which are not specifically about those neologisms and concepts.
- Misplaced Pages is cluttered up with articles on marginally notable and non-notable people, fancruft, subculture-cruft, and opinion-pushing POV forks. These articles all need to be deleted or merged as appropriate.
- Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia. Misplaced Pages is not Who's Who In America, Who's Who On Earth, nor is it a place for you to post articles promoting your tiny fringe political movements, trivia lists, individual articles on every minor character in your favorite movie, nor is it a place to post articles intended to criticize or defame a person or group. Before you write that article, ask yourself: Would an entry on this subject be something I might expect to find in the Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedia? If the answer is no, then it probably doesn't belong in Misplaced Pages either.
- Misplaced Pages is not a free web hosting service. If you feel some driving need to pontificate about your political or religious opinions, get a blog. If you feel some driving need to put up a webpage about your insignificant elementary school, find a good web hosting service.
