It was on the discussion page

It was on the discussion page, you commie bastard. It wasn't in the god damned article itself, but in the discussion page, you fucking moron. Eat shit, you fucking apetheist.

hey there

it is actually mentioned in the same article, that the occurrence is 10-30%. I have started to notice similar patterns in many wiki pages; different information within the same article. So, do you want me to cite the[REDACTED] article itself for the information (which wasnt cited before)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.38.23.41 (talk) 16:54, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Ugh. That sort of thing happens when vandalism gets missed. I'll check it out and change it back, then remove the warning from your talk page. If you fill out the edit summary box, it makes it less likely that you'll be reverted. Thanks for pointing it out to me. --GraemeL 16:57, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

TipaiMukh Dam

I don't understand your point of 'Spam'. That was the reason you took my given External Link deleted by you. Graemel, did you visit the site?. I think you didn't visit the site www.tipaimukh.info. This is about the Tipaimukh Dam. Whole world is campaigning against the construction of Tipaimukh Dam. Because this construction is unjustice for the people of India and Bangladesh. Read First, Before Delete. Unless, You are the Agent of Indian Government. I hope you will not delete my link www.Tipaimukh.info and don't ever call me a spammer. I am not a spammer. I hope you are not a professional Hacker or Hate Monger.

Sincerely Spowered — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spowered (talkcontribs) 20:34, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but Misplaced Pages is not the place to push you campaign. The site has no encyclopedic value. Please stop adding it as you will only end up being blocked from editing. --GraemeL 20:46, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

I don't care your threat about blocking me. I do care about your Prejudice. The website was added twice 'Tipaimukh Project at NHPC' on - Referance and External Links. When I suggested the site with all about Tipai Dam and added http://TipaiMukh.info, where updated news, forms, articles, polls etc. But, you deleted the link twice, and saying 'this site push my campaign'. This is not acceptable. The site Tipaimukh.info is not my campaign. I hope you restore the site TipaiMukh.info immediately. Nuke

Hi Graeme. Nice to see you back again. It's probably a regular, but I've not seen the MO before. I've used Special:Nuke. -- zzuuzz 14:16, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Cheers, it was the threat to temporarily de-op me for inactivity what done it. Useful to know about the nuke optipon. --GraemeL 14:18, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Modest proposal

Is less than two hours really enough time to determine that a proposal "does not have a snowball's chance in hell of being accepted"? Cusop Dingle (talk) 15:37, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Blocks have been discussed throughout the thread since the beginning with no action taken against him. I felt that it was just distracting from trying to solve the real underlying issue. We were edging towards a resolution before everybody got distracted by the block proposal, so I just tried to get things back on track. No objection towards looking to hand out blocks all round once the base issue is resolved. --GraemeL 15:41, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Oh, feel free to remove the template if you strongly disagree with it. --GraemeL 15:44, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
And I felt that a definite proposal would help to focus a complex and ill-tempered debate. But what confuses me is that you have just given me a reason for closing which is different from your edit summary "close blocking discussion WP:SNOW" and from your closure notice "No consensus for blocking Orangemarlin". I don't want to revert until I understand what's going on, though I may anyway. Cusop Dingle (talk) 15:49, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
I thought about snow when I added the tags, but when asked about it in detail, I realized that I had more reasons. Anyway, I wont get into a war over it, do feel free to remove the tags. --GraemeL 15:52, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
To let you know, I have just removed the tags, thank you for your prompt replies here. Cusop Dingle (talk) 16:07, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know and no problem. --GraemeL 16:08, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

My LIfe's Despair

First off, I understand why you deleted "My Life's Despair". But, a BIG 'BUT', if you think MLD, as I will refer to, is not note-worthy, why is Disgorge (band) or their label, Unique Leader Records, listed in Wiki?

Perhaps, I didn't write a clear enough article regarding the bands triumphs. Perhaps, I didn't reference enough mainstream links to the band. Perhaps!

But, based on the numbers, MLD has acquired more acclaim than either I mentioned. I don't wish "Disgorge" or "Unigue Leader Records" any dismay. They have their spot in developing a growing underground of music. I know, personally, since I've been a follower of this style of music for over 20 years and have had first hand experience with the people in question. I know 'most' of the members from Disgorge and I know personally, Daemon Larshus, of "My Life's Despair". In fact, they both have crossed paths in their struggles of their respective genre, by sharing a rehearsal room together. Along with numerous tours with each other throughout the States.

But, the point is...If MLD, is not significant, than neither is Disgorge or their record label of lesser-known bands. Both are in the underground "metal" scene. "Underground"! That implies without any explanation, that the bands are not mainstream. But, both are significant to the metal scene. This alone should be noteworthy.

Thanks for your time, I hope you reconsider, but understand if you don't,

Bradley Dean Moore (MysticDoom) — Preceding unsigned comment added by MysticDoom (talkcontribs) 01:24, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Your article was deleted because it did not supply any indication that the band was notable and met the requirements of WP:BAND. If you think that the band does meet the notability requirements, let me know and I will restore the article to your user space. There you can add the references needed to establish notability without fear of it being deleted while you're working on it. Once it's up to standard, you can have it moved to article space. Non-trivial coverage in specialist, but well established publications would probably be enough, I don't think you'll need to provide main stream references.
As for the other label, I looked through its history here and it was kept because it had at least 2 bands signed to it that were deemed notable enough of their own articles. Once the label's notability had been accepted, it became easier for other bands signed to it to establish their notability.
If you want the article restored to your user space, let me know here and I'll take care of t. --GraemeL 12:35, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

HI new and a bit confused

HI

My new wiki page that I submitted on Scott Tinkler (trumpet player) was deleted because it was copy pasted from somewhere else on the web - yes true but I wrote that originally on the other site!

now it seems everything has been deleted - can I find it again as it was hours of fining all the relevant links and references.....

please help this is so much harder and more esoteric than anything I have had to do online before thanks Stinkler (talk) 06:58, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

If the article didn't have potential copyright problems, I could restore the whole thing to your user page. As I can't do that, I'll copy the reference links from the deleted version and post them to your talk page. Let me know if you need any more help. --GraemeL 12:08, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Stinkler (talk) 01:36, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

That IP you blocked...

That IP you blocked is shared in some bizarre way, I don't know if it is my ISP or what. Anyhow, could you provisionally unblock it please - loads of people are clearly affected. I have started an ANI thread about it as I don't understand what is going on - it reminds me of the virgin killers thing when people were sharing IP addresses inadvertantly. In fact a checkuser should be involved I think. Egg Centric 15:14, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Which IP, I've blocked a few today? --GraemeL 15:15, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
194.72.9.24 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). Bizarely, while[REDACTED] still thinks that's my IP, other websites disagree! The alternative is to put a hardblock on it (I don't mind now that I've alerted people to it) and see if anyone else complains, could be interesting - I suspect plenty of other users will be affected. Egg Centric 15:18, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
I've lifted the block and will keep an eye on the IP contributions for a while. --GraemeL 15:28, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks - let's hope it's not the start of another transparent proxying craze by UK ISPs! Egg Centric 15:33, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
And the funny thing is I've forgotten what edit I was going to make in the first place when I found it was blocked! Egg Centric 15:33, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Could be that BT is running out of IPv4 addresses and needs to NAT them, that would look the same as a proxy. Anyway, no more vandalism since I unblocked it, so once you remember what you wanted to edit, it's all good. --GraemeL 15:39, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Giving you a shout on this , guess what . Cat Stevens and Scotland vandalised from the same IP , also the edit you on blocked - if unconnected knows his way round Wiki . Cheers Murry1975 (talk) 15:48, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
cheers, I'm close to blocking it again, prepare for screams. --GraemeL 15:50, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Re: Café del Mar

Haha yes something like that! I was sort of experimenting and also wasn't sure if the table format was appropriate because I've seen it on some pages and it looks nice and smart (I used the 'Lost' TV soundtracks page as a guideline. I can't comment on the technicalities of what the DSM is saying as I have no expertise in that area, but the registered editors are correct that a blog post is not a reliable source. Unless of course, you can show that it is by a recognised authority in the subject. Even then you would be better finding a more reliable source than his/her blog posting.
I'm keeping an eye on things, but not really interested in getting drawn into the details of who is right or wrong here apart from trying to keep things civil. --GraemeL 22:33, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

but he is breaking the rule about reliable sources and how we should accurately match the text with sources. this appears to be vandalism. he is also attacking the Conservative Party (UK) article. bad editing all around with this user, it seems. 107.20.1.111 (talk) 22:37, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

c'omn, he's reverting as different IPs on that article (did you not look at the edit history?), and he just signed up for an account as Jackmb1992. the editor (User:Bastin) who reverted him was right to have reverted. anyway, i'll let Bastin know, if he doesn't already, and see if Bastin does anything about it. 107.20.1.111 (talk) 00:13, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Re: Body painting

My opinion would be that the non-free image, if used, should accompany the portion of the article where it talks about that particular event. I would think that relatively equivalent, free images of body painting could be used in the lede instead. If it were my call, I wouldn't use that particular image there. (ESkog) 15:51, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

That was pretty much my own thinking on the issue. Thanks for the response. --GraemeL 15:54, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Robert Afshar deletion

Hi Graeme, thanks for the note on the deletion. It's my first piece and I wasn't sure what's considered worthy of a page. What other info is useful? Net worth? Other businesses founded and sold? Town of birth? Etc?

Thanks for the tips!

Jarrett — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jstreebin (talkcontribs) 18:09, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

We don't have specific criteria for business people, so we would go by some more general criteria. First, his companies having their own articles would probably help. Those have criteria laid out at WP:CORP. Secondly, he should be the subject of non-trivial coverage in multiple independent sources such as newspapers or magazines. Non-trivial, in this case, would mean articles about the person, not mentioning or quoting them in passing. You can find more details at WP:BASIC.
Hope this helps. --GraemeL 18:31, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Conrad Ayala

Conrad Ayala was a boy who was MURDERED by his mother and step father. Why did you delete the page that I was in the process of creating for him? How disrespectful is that? It was not copyright because I was the one that took hours writing it — Preceding unsigned comment added by Miss Bee.1992 (talkcontribs) 19:26, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

I have every sympathy, but the article text came from here and we have strict rules against using text from elsewhere unless permission is sent to the Misplaced Pages Foundation by the original author. Additionally, we have notability criteria for articles about real people which the article did not meet.
There are links on your talk page pointing you to more information on how to write an article and our policies on copyright. Please take some time to read them before you attempt to re-create the article, if you think that the notability guidelines are met.
You can questions on your talk page and mark them with {{helpme}} if you need some specific help from other editors. --GraemeL 19:37, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Yes! I know it came from there I BLOODY POSTED IT THERE!!! Which you would know if you read what I wrote in the first message to you >:( — Preceding unsigned comment added by Miss Bee.1992 (talkcontribs) 19:42, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

As I said, we cannot accept content from elsewhere on the web unless the Foundation has written permission from the original author. Taking any individuals word that they are the owner of content taken from elsewhere would open us up to legal action. Read the links on your talk page. If you post the material again without proper permission being received, I will block you from editing. --GraemeL 19:45, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

FYI

You recently blocked user:Cindykohtruth who had added text about

  • no such thing as insomnia and no such thing as disturbed sleep, sleep is God's gift etc.

to the talk page at Insomnia. You also reverted a similar text in article space at Sleep added by 220.255.2.123. A very similar text was shortly thereafter added to article space at Sleep disorder by 203.116.251.232. Then virtually the same text was added to article space, Polysomnography by 220.255.2.167. Also on Talk page, Sleep state misperception, a shorter version by 220.255.2.119 which I've reverted.

I don't know if anything can be done about all this. Just wanted you to know. --Hordaland (talk) 00:32, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Here's another one, by 220.255.2.167, added to the top of Misplaced Pages talk:General disclaimer!
Full text: "Attention to all: There is no such thing as insomnia. Who cam out with this word ? Don't think about anything and sleep la. There is simply no truth in this article because God gives HIs beloved sleep. And there is no such thing as disturbed sleep, just continue to sleep as it is when you wake up. So simple, isn't it? And also people with high stress still can sleep like a pig and people who lost their loved ones also still can sleep well. We need to take care of our body first before we can moved on in life. And what fear can cause symptoms of insomnia. God cast out fear and there is no more there. what a irrelevant article! Please remove.."
--Hordaland (talk) 00:49, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
And in article space at Fear, twice, by 220.255.2.102. --Hordaland (talk) 00:54, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing them out, saves me hunting around to undo the mess. I'll add the articles he's abusing to my watchlist. He's been hopping IP addresses and I've already semi-protected one of his targets. --GraemeL 11:15, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Added again to Insomnia by 220.255.2.160. --Hordaland (talk) 17:07, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that was about an hour ago. I rangeblocked his /24 for 60 minutes 50 minutes ago. --GraemeL 17:10, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
Correction, I meant Talk:Insomnia. It's been reverted there several times today and yesterday. Now that Insomnia is semi-protected, I hope that means Talk is, too. Hordaland (talk) 17:23, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Microsoft SQL Server Compare Tools

Thank you for your help cutting though the crap on the Microsoft SQL Server Compare Tools page. Another editor had been looking at the page for a while and I just saw it this morning. Don't know if you read our comments or not but, in my opinion, commercial/promotional spam has no place in WP because it cheapens the entire project.

Thanks for your help! — UncleBubba  13:46, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

I picked it up from the talk page of Hu12 (talk · contribs), had a quick look at the article and read the comments on the talk page, then decided that the redirect was the best course of action. Yes, there are quite a few lists that are like that and this was one of the worst I've seen. Most of them have at least a reasonable number of links to articles and are worth saving by culling out the spam. This was just a lost cause. --GraemeL 13:50, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Regards to Gyaru

I've been into the fashion since 2005. There are only pics to verify. I mean theres no possible way to verify. It's all by word of mouth, and magazines. People try to describe the best way we can. It seems that Lolita fashion has more refs than us. Trust me none of it was BS. I promise. It extreme hard to get refs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.51.191.8 (talk) 22:36, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately, if you can't provide sources for it, you're in a difficult position. The ability to verify is one of the five core principles of Misplaced Pages. Without that ability, there's no way to tell which information is tru and which is not.
I added the blue linked section that you removed back in because the other articles that are linked to provide their own sources and so help lessen the requirements for references for that section.
The red links that I chopped out might be perfectly valid terms and fashions (and I don't doubt you on that), but without sources they could just be nonsense added by vandals.
Better to provide sources for what you can and leave the rest out. A well sourced but incomplete article is better than a large one with no sources. --GraemeL 22:43, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

I appreciate you keeping an eye on my page, RE the recent IP attacks. I am curious to know what they are saying however in the deleted revisions. Is there a way that only I can see what he/she said? If not, then no worries. Thank you again, --ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 02:29, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Festivus

Thanks for keeping an eye on Festivus. I've protected the page during the past two years between November and January, but got virused this year (apparantly lousy security protection on my laptop) and won't be able to keep check of the page. It grows to hundreds of thousands of hits during the few days leading up to, and Festivus itself, and Ronz was going to check on it as well. It should really be protected soon, and if you are an admin, please do so. Thanks, and I'll look in from time to time. Randy 15:19 16-12-'11

Spam Link Question

I did not mean to cause a problem with my External Link on Cock Rings.

I do want you to know that I had that article linked for years. The Cockring 101 guide has existed for around 3 years and was not a problem. I did change it recently and moved the URL.

Would I create less of a hassle if I created a page for my book and linked to the content from my book page?

http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Multiple-Position-Sex-Unforgettable/dp/1592333869/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324076345&sr=8-1 Egarrison (talk) 23:08, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

It's actually a combination of things.
1st: All of your edits have been adding or maintaining links to your sites. That indicates that you're here to get your site linked to, not to help build an encyclopaedia.
2nd: The page linked to on personal lubricant took me to a page with a header, followed by a bunch of pictures of types of lubricant, made to look like they were links to a discussion of them. In fact, they were links to buy products, the actual text of your article was down the page and out of sight. This struck me as misleading and as the use of your site as a doorway page to a shop. This is what prompted me to remove all of your links, rather than just asking you to refrain from adding more.
As for an article about your book, you will want to read WP:NBOOK for guidelines on the notability of books. If it doesn't meet the notability criteria, it will almost certainly be removed. If you think you pass the notability test, you should read WP:COI for our conflicts of interest policy before you start the article.
Let me know if I've missed anything, though you might not get an answer until tomorrow. I think we're on opposite sides of the world. --GraemeL 23:24, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi

My edits were correct and red rose 64 should not of undone them, she or he should of just added the correct citation. --Chip123456 (talk) 18:27, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Maybe in this case, but often there is no single correct wording for something and the standard way to avoid edit wars is to post to the article once, then if you're reverted post to the talk page to discuss the change. I haven't looked at your page again, but I don't think that you were warned for posting incorrect information. You may have been warned for not providing sources, which is something different.
Anyway, if you discuss the changes on the article talk page, this will soon all blow over. --GraemeL 18:34, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Could I re add the future services. I'm not too sure on how to add references --Chip123456 (talk) 18:50, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Discuss it on the article talk page. If you re-add it, you may be blocked for edit warring. If you're right, you'll be able to convince the other editors. People in a cycle of adding and reverting without discussion is seen as bad for the projects and leads to blocks. --GraemeL 18:54, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your advice.CHip — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chip123456 (talkcontribs) 19:29, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

No problem. --GraemeL 20:13, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for the info. I will restructure both pages. I had an intern working for me and I will get him to remove those links. I just sold my new book to the publisher and have many pages of new content. Many of the topics are week on Misplaced Pages. I will put some of that content into Misplaced Pages. Again, thank you for the feedback. Egarrison (talk) 01:32, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

No problem. Be sure to read the policy on copyright before you put any of your content onto Misplaced Pages. The encyclopedia is licensed under a creative commons license and that may cause you some problems. --GraemeL 21:43, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

My 'deleted' edit on the page 'Psoriasis'

Dear,I am very upset that my addition on the page is deleted. I am a medical practitioner since 32 years. Unfortunately I have three psoriasis patients in my own family and fortunately lots more as patients in my clinic. All medical facts with research or studies are not 11% correct all the time. I have certainly noted that mental stress plays tremendous role in treatment as well as in worsening of psoriasis. Many guide-lined treatment posted here on this page are totally failed to improve the patient. And in many cases 'proton pump inhibitors' with 'psycho-somatic' gave good results. More or less all auto immune disorders are tend to relate with patient's mental status.Just because I am not a big researcher and unable to put a clinical data, you can not delete the most important fact about psoriasis. My addition was not misleading, incorrect or harmful by any aspect.Hope you understand this. Welcome to Misplaced Pages. Unfortunately, additions to articles (and especially medical articles) are required to be verifiable which usually means that they must be referenced by reliable sources. I'm afraid that when you add information without a source, it is likely to be removed. --GraemeL 21:50, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Ugh...

Once again, my User page is under attack from that pesky IP. This is a new one: 174.91.1.247‎. I am going to request temporary page protection on my user page for at least a few weeks, which will hopefully help. Any other assistance on this is appreciated, thanks! --ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 22:51, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Taken care of (blocked and everything else I did last time). Your user page is semi-protected for 2 weeks. He hasn't hit your talk page, but he may now I've removed his primary target. Do you want me to semi-protect that too? --GraemeL 23:00, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Wait and see on that one. I'll let you know if he does that. Do I still need a request at the pages for protection or can I delete that? Thanks man, I appreciate the help!--ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 23:01, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
I'll mark it as done on RFPP. No problem, things like this are stressful, so trying to deal with it quickly. --GraemeL 23:02, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

You keep trying to spam an French artist who has no encyclopedia entry into various music related articles. The wikilink you keep inserting goes to an article with no connection whatsoever to the artist you're trying to promote. Please stop adding the link. If the artist has no encyclopedia enter here, we do not consider them notable. If you think the artist meets our notability criteria at WP:BAND, you can create an account and create an article for them, but please remember to supply multiple references from reliable sources. --GraemeL 23:09, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

ok, thanks for the lecon and stuff, I think he will become a star anyway so i'll be able to come back (ok joking sorry for the pain and stuff can you clean it please ?)...So im fine, thanks for your help — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.213.147.205 (talk) 20:46, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

USB mass-storage device class

How the heck can you call third party drivers spam, especially when it backs up a statement in the article, or at least was in the article until you deleted it! Please describe to me how a person is suppose to read USB flash drives with Windows 98SE, especially new flash drives that don't include a driver disk? Please describe how this link is SPAM and NOT related to this article! http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/usbmsd98.phpSbmeirowTalk16:08, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

It's no different from saying there are burger joints in Chicago and then linking to an individual burger restaurant in the city. It's nothing but an attempt to direct traffic to one specific site by adding a reference to a piece of text which doesn't need a citation. Take it to the article talkpage if you want it included, but linking to drivers for a an operating system 3 releases out of support is of no use to people reading the article, it's nothing but spam. --GraemeL 17:02, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
How dare you state that I'm trying to drive traffic to a web site for anything other than information purposes. • SbmeirowTalk17:29, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Please point to the rule at Misplaced Pages:Spam or some other page. • SbmeirowTalk17:28, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
You added the link to the external links section. when it was removed from there, you concocted a reason to add it as a reference where no citation was needed. Looks like spamming to me. --GraemeL 17:47, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
  1. The Windows 98SE link is NO less important than 1 existing linux reference and 2 external links.
  2. You still have NOT pointed me at any[REDACTED] guideline or rule page to validate the 1st deletion from the External Links section and 2nd deletion as a reference.
Basically you said that my External Link was NOT encyclopedic, so then I added a reference to existing text to make it more encyclopedic, then you couldn't handle me meeting your silly statement and being one up on you, so you deleted it as a power play. I now finally understand why the common public gets ticked off at Misplaced Pages admins. • SbmeirowTalk18:02, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
I've told you that the link is as unnecessary and as spammy as linking to a single restaurant to "reference that restaurants exit. What more do you need? The link is unnecessary and you seem to be pushing it very hard. Do you have any conflict of interests that you're not sharing? --GraemeL 18:32, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
The restaurant analogy would be a perfect example, if it was the only restaurant on the planet, people had no other way to eat, and didn't know about that single restaurant. Since there are jillions of restaurants, and almost zero Windows 98 generic USB drivers, your analogy is a FAIL. For a work project, I spent some time loading up Windows 98SE in VirtualBox so I could rebuild an old project from the 90's and I was thrilled to come across this USB driver, thus is why I posted it, and I know it would benefit other people who are doing the same. You still have NOT explained why the linux driver links are fine but the Win98 driver is not? • SbmeirowTalk01:02, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Methanol edits

I apologize for the oversight. I removed the text in question in line 148: "The net process is carbon neutral, since the CO2 byproduct is required to produce biomass via photosynthesis," because the argument that the production of methanol is carbon neutral because carbon dioxide is required by growing plants is specious at best and dangerous at worst. An appropriate analogue would be burning vast amounts of fossil fuels to provide the necessary CO2 for plants. This would not make that process carbon neutral. My basic objection, however, is that this all seems irrelevant to the discussion of methanol. Does that make sense?

best,

MSU Interview

Dear GraemeL,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 00:58, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

URGENT DELETION MESSAGE

DEAR ADMINISTRATOR,

I request that my account be deleted with immediate effect, and that all my edits in the past, and past edit histories, be permanently removed from public viewing. Deletion of my account, City of Lukington, would be immensely appreciated.

I hope that this reaches you soon and that you are able to act upon my request.

Articles deletion

Dear GraemeL,

I published a film article entitled Drits (Derivas), a film by Portuguese director Ricardo Costa. It is the second film from an autobiographic trilogy, Faraways. The article was kept untouched by several months. To my surprise, it was recently eliminated and redirected to the director’s page with no discussion. I undid the redirection, but saw the article was proposed to deletion. Reason: independent, verifiable, secondary resources. I argued that the article couldn’t have but primary sources (the producer’s ones) as it is an upcoming film, like many others listed at upcoming films. A film that has not yet been premiered or distributed may not be commented. Besides, none of the films so listed has ever been deleted or even contested.

At last, in discussion, user User:reddogsix proposed that the article should be renamed to Drifts (film) or similar, and at the same time put at the disambiguation page of Dritf this reference «Drifs, unreleased film by Ricardo Costa (filmmaker). I created a new page for the same article entitled Drifts (Portuguese film). As the semantic root “drift” seemed to be the problem, I replaced the article name to Derivas (Drifts) and published it once more with some improvements. As a result, the article was fast deleted and I blocked for three days.

In the meantime, a new article about the trilogy was published: Faraways, which was proposed to fast deletion as well by the same user, User:reddogsix.

Although unreleased, although having no reliable secondary sources, Drifts is unquestionably an outstanding film for its uniqueness and characteristics: autobiography, comedy, docufiction, metafiction in one. I guess that “outstanding” may be a synonym for “notable” in such cases and that articles like this shouldn’t be deleted without previous cared analyses: important information may be lost.

This sequence of interventions is clearly a personal attack by User:reddogsix, supported by two or three user friend. It has no other explanation. It contributes in nothing to improve articles quality. Mists article, which I created on 10 September 2010, is the latest example. The article structure was unreasonably modified, loosing clarity and useful content.

NOTE: sent to 30 administrators.

Thanks for your attention, User:Tertulius 21:09, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
