- The Moro National Liberation Front attacks the Philippines town of Lamitan with five people missing and two injured. (AP)
American born Islamist militant Abu Mansoor Al-Amriki is shot dead in a dawn raid in a shootout with his former al-Shabaab colleagues in southern Somalia. (ABC News Australia)

A massive fire burns parts of the boardwalk in Seaside Park, New Jersey. Numerous decade old buildings are destroyed. (USA Today)(ABC News}

De'Marquise Elkins, 18 (who was 17 at the time of the crime and could not receive the death penalty or an automatic life sentence), is sentenced, after his conviction on two counts of felony murder and one count of murder, to life in prison without parole for the March 21, 2013 shooting death of 13-month old Antonio Santiago in a stroller, in Brunswick, Georgia. Also facing trial are a 15-year-old accomplice-turned-witness, Dominic Lang, and Elkins's mother and sister. (NBC)
