Fındıklı (Laz: ვიწე/Vi3'e; Georgian: ვიწე/Vi3'e) is a town and district of Rize Province on the Black Sea coast of Turkey, east of the city of Rize.

Etymology

The town was formerly known as Vitze which some claims that means twig or branch in the Laz language and was renamed Fındıklı after the hazelnuts that were grown here, (although these have now mostly been replaced with tea). Scholar Özhan Öztürk claims that Vice towns related with the word vis meand "town" from Thrakian or another Indo-European Languages (Old Persian Vith, Avesta visa, Sanskrit vesah, Goth weihs etc.) Öztürk, claims that Istanbul's old name Byzantion, Vize town in Kırklareli (Thracia), Visa, Visani, Viziru and Vizireni towns in Romania,Vis in Bulgaria, Viçe, Visir, Aşağı Viçe, Arhavi (Arkeo + Vice "old wown), visera, Vizera in Pontus, Bizirne and Bizeri town in Paphlagonia are related with the same origin..
