Originally known as the Clutha Employees Credit Union, The Mac was founded by a group of truck drivers and miners with an aim to help local coal miners in the Camden area who were being denied access to financial products and loans.
The Credit Union developed quickly, and in 1978 extended membership to the entire Macarthur district, becoming known as Macarthur Mutual Credit Union. In 1995 the credit union decided to drop ‘Mutual’ from its name and finally in 2013, Macarthur Credit Union became The Mac to reflect the personalised culture and service of the credit union. Priding itself as friendly, helpful and supportive, The Mac remains the only community based credit union within the Macarthur region, and currently holds over $200 million dollars in assets.
The Mac currently has 4 branches (Camden, Narellan, Picton and Tahmoor) supporting the Macarthur and Wollondilly areas with over 17,000 members.
