Great Neck Village School also known as "VS" is an alternative high school located on Middle Neck Road in Great Neck, New York and is part of the Great Neck School District. The Village School was established in 1971 is the oldest public alternative high school (grades 9-12) in New York State. It is a member of the Coalition of Essential Schools, an accrediting organization based at Brown University. Approximately 85 percent of its students are admitted to four-year colleges, such as Bard College, Skidmore College, Buffalo State University, Oberlin, Wesleyan, Tufts University, and Purchase.

The student body in the school year of 2004-2005 consists of:

- 10.9% Asian American/Pacific Islander
- 80.4% Caucasian
- 6.5% Hispanic American
Mission statement
The school's mission statement is:
- Providing a high teacher to student ratio in a supporting and nurturing small classroom setting
- Motivating the average to gifted student who had difficulty in a larger classroom setting
- Creating an opportunity for each student to succeed ultimately fostering the self-esteem of every student
What makes Village School unique?
The Village School is a community of about fifty students, with a student-teacher ratio that is never more than eight to one. Each student is given his/her own laptop computer to be used during the school year. Students and teachers work together to determine the activities of the "community" and its standards of behavior. A democratic orientation at the Village School encourages students to be responsible for their high school experiences. Second semester seniors participate in an internship program that places them in apprenticeships of their own choice.
Schedule
VS offers a schedule containing 8 periods a day, during which students may take electives in addition to required courses. The classes start at 8:40 and ends at 2:30. There are no after school activities.
GPA
All of the courses offered at the Village School are ungraded; instead, credits are earned for successful completion of courses. Typically, one credit is granted for each full-year course, one-half credit for each half-year course. Students who do not fully complete course requirements (i.e. regular attendance, reasonable homework record, satisfactory participation in class work and on projects) may earn either partial credit or no credit for that course. Twenty-two credits, distributed according to New York State and Great Neck mandates, are required for graduation.
