Homenaje (Template:Lang-es) is a 1996 live album, recorded during the "Metal Rock Festival" at Obras Sanitarias. The concert was a reunion of the Argentine heavy metal band V8, with the exception of the influential member Ricardo Iorio.
Background
V8 was an 1980s Argentine heavy metal band. Their most famous line-up included Ricardo Iorio (bass), Osvaldo Civile (guitar), Alberto Zamarbide (singer) and Gustavo Rowek (drums). This line-up recorded the first two studio albums of the band. Civile and Rowek left the band in 1985, and the band broke up in 1987. All four members created new bands that stayed among the most influential in Argentine heavy metal. Civile created Horcas, and Rowek joined Walter Giardino in Rata Blanca. Iorio created Hermética, and then Almafuerte when Hermética broke up in 1995. Zamarbide and the remaining members of the last line-up of V8 (including guitarist Miguel Roldán) took a new bassist and created Logos.
Reunion of V8
Logos made a concert in Cemento in 1995, and Zamarbide invited Civile and Rowek to play four songs of V8 at the end, in an unannounced reunion. As Iorio did not took part in it, the guitarist Roldán played the bass. The reception was highly positive, and they organized a second reunion. It was a festival named "Metal Rock Festival", at the bigger hall Obras Sanitarias, and included the three bands, Logos, Horcas and Rata Blanca. The reunion of V8 (who played a full concert this time) was not mentioned in the advertisements, but it was known as an open secret because the festival gathered three of the four bands with former members of V8, and the recent reunion during the Logos' concert generated ample repercussion.
The concert was recorded, for a release as a live album. Rowek explained that the studio albums made by V8 had a low sound quality, that the band never had a big last concert, and that many young fans had never seen the band live. The CD includes as well a new song, "A través de los tiempos" (Template:Lang-es), recorded in studio. The lyrics talk about the legacy of V8, as a band that is still remembered several years after its break up.
The album is labeled as a tribute album, even when it would be a band paying tribute to itself. Gustavo Rowek clarified that the title was meant as a tribute to the fans the 1980s Argentine heavy metal in general.
