Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Miszatomic (talk) 23:19, 29 December 2013.

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Two lots of vandalism in one day is annoying, but protection is not justified unless there's persistent, ongoing disruption. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:51, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. One edit every few days is easily manageable. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:48, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Declined, there was a surge four days ago, but there's been nothing since. From the history, the level of vandlaism looks easily mangeable. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:13, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Move-protection: This page has moved several times over the last few years. Please see the edit history, the talkpage and the article intro listing the different (and current) variations of their name. This should ensure that any future moves are done via the requested move process on the talkpage. Thanks. Lugnuts 10:21, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Declined, Only seems to have been moved once since February 2010 (nearly four years), and the most recnet person to move it is an admin, so protection would give them an unfair advantage. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:08, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Page got moved to Bollywood films grossing above 100 crore from Bollywood Hundred Crore Club now. - Jayadevp13 06:13, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

It has been moved back. Seems like move protection will also be required. - Jayadevp13 06:24, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Page moved back again. I won't be able to give any more updates. - Jayadevp13 06:48, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Declined, One of the editors involved has been indefinitely blocked on an unrelated matter, and things seem to have clamed down now. Do come back if things heat up again. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:04, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

    Eric Hennig (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: BLP policy violations – AFD is n going. SPA editors adding self published sources and copy vio pictures to bulk article content up agianst WP:BLP. Murry1975 (talk) 04:30, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Declined Pages up for AfD should in general not be protected, as worthy pages may well be saved from deletion by a "last" effort. Also, this seems very much under control; better to report the SPA to the appropriate noticeboards. Lectonar (talk) 18:21, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

    Sati (practice) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: Edit warring by SPA, after warning, uses IP for vandalizing, on going for months, requested days ago too, can be seen. OccultZone (talk) 18:56, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: These pages have all been protected for 6 months now, to block "suspiciously major edits ... from very minor used accounts who ignore any discussions on talk pages". I don't think it's still necessary at this point. @Ronhjones: ping. Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:36, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Not unprotected. Ron is active at the moment, so there's no harm in asking him first. It's only polite, and he likely knows more about the circumstances than some random passing admin. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:46, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
I've pinged him here. Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:50, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
The was some rather extreme POV editing going on with various IPs all wading in just deleting the same large chunks of pages. Blocking was out of the question, the IP address was always changing. Protection was the only option at that time. As soon as the first semi-protection expired, the same edits appeared again, so the semi-protection was applied again for indef. Then the editors went to many WP:SPAs, did their 10 edits and waded in as an autoconfimed user (often giving "nice" edit summaries). Obviously we cannot know what will happen on unprotection - hopefully those editors have gone away (but they may be stealthily watching the page). Feel free to change as you want - maybe drop to semi-protection at first - I would only ask that you inform User:Srirangam99 of what you do, as he was the poor soldier trying to hold it all together at the time.  Ronhjones  19:25, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
Notified. Jackmcbarn (talk) 20:49, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Skin Game (novel) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Page was inappropriately locked by abusive admins who were involved in a content dispute and abused their power both to block participants and to fix "their" version in clear violation of WP:OWN.

Declined. Content dispute. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:58, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Further information: Misplaced Pages:Edit requests Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Misplaced Pages:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
