He is a young human Jedi featured in the computer game Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. He befriends Jaden Korr and is one of Kyle Katarn's apprentices at the Jedi Academy on Yavin IV.
While taking part in an investigation near the remains of Byss with the Jedi Academy regarding a cult called the Disciples of Ragnos, Penin is captured. Later he is found by Korr and Katarn inside the late Darth Vader's Bast Castle on Vjun, stealing Force energy with the Scepter of Ragnos under Tavion's order. They find that Penin had been turned to the dark side and becomes the new apprentice of Dark Jedi Tavion, who is the mastermind behind the cult. Penin engages Korr in a lightsaber duel but loses, and Tavion saves him.
A distress signal from Rosh is later picked up by Katarn and Korr, and it leads them to Taspir III where a large facility of the Imperial Remnant is located. Korr finds Penin before Katarn and is furious at him for his betrayal. Katarn also warns Korr not to give into anger. The player can then choose to let Penin live and remain on the path of light, or kill him and turn to the dark side.
- If his life is spared, the young Jedi loses his arm when Alora, Tavion's apprentice, attacks him before engaging Korr in a heated lightsaber duel. Penin later receives a new cybernetic arm back on Yavin IV after the ultimate defeat of the cult, Tavion and Marka Ragnos.
- If Korr turns to the dark side, he stabs Penin in the abdomen and leaves him for dead. Shortly after Korr kills Alora and leaves the facility, Katarn finds Penin near death and grants him the rank of Jedi.
In tradition, the light side ending should be canon, although no particular information has been released.
