WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter, Issue 1

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter
Issue 1 - May 2006
Project news

Some project tips

  • Stick the following template {{Template:WPBeatles}} on relevant articles. We have 500+ already but may have missed some!
  • Use British/English grammar and spelling per Policy
  • A few moments checking other editors contributions is always appreciated.
  • Don't be shy on using the talk pages. It's where a lot of stuff gets decided.

From the Editors

Welcome to the inaugural issue of The Beatles WikiProject's newsletter! We hope that this newsletter will help members—especially those who may be unable to keep up with some of the rapid developments that tend to occur—find new things to do within the project that they may wish to participate in.

Please consider this inital issue to be a prototype; as always, any comments and suggestions are quite welcome. We would like to emphasise that this is a collaborative Project and all editors are equal - so next month the newsletter editor might be you!

The Project has got off to a great start but we really need your help to keep it going. Here's a few things you can do:

Complete Todo List:
Open tasks for WikiProject The Beatles.

Edit or discuss these tasks.

As the project is currently just starting, our more experienced editors are working on the project infrastructure, classifying articles, and listing/assessing red links. Your assistance is welcome. If you would prefer to just edit - and why wouldn't you? - we have a choice selection of red links to turn blue and articles to clean! Now let's get busy.

If you complete one of these tasks, please remove it from the list and add your achievement to the project log.

Want to help on next month's newsletter? Don't want to receive these in future? Don't want it subst'd next time? - It's all here

South African Timeline

Sorry to catch you in your break, Daniel, but some users want to vote off the Timeline of South African history from wikipedia. Please vote at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Timeline of South African history. Thank you --Jcw69 20:44, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks so much!

Thank you, dear Daniel!

I'm truly sorry about the belated reply, but I really really wanted to thank you - your concern in my absence and your get-well wishes really mean a lot to me. Sometimes, well - life can be tough on us, but as long as good friends like you are there, I'll always have a reason to cheer up. Dankie, my sweet, dear Daniel!!

Smile! Hope the wikibreak is going well

-- Natalya has smiled at you! Smiles promote WikiLove and many feel they are also contagious! Spread the WikiLove by smiling to two other people, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Smile to others by adding {{subst:Hcs}} to their talk pages. Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

Administrator Coaching
The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Misplaced Pages better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Misplaced Pages because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
Stressbusters
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
The last AC meeting (full log)
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

For trying to guess...

I, JCarriker, do hereby award Banes one silver wiki buck on 09:10, 9 May 2006 (UTC), for attempting and failing to guess the tenth most spoken language in Texas. Please note that a silver wikibuck is only recognized as legal tender by Sealand, Elbonia, and Franistan; real countries do not accept wikibucks as currency.

A Smile!

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter
Issue 2 – June 2006

Beatles News
  • Apple Corps v. Apple Computer. A case brought by Apple Corps against Apple Computer, regarding possible infringement of a previous agreement between the two parties in respect of distribution of music, was heard in a London High Court. The story made Misplaced Pages's front page due to a nomination by our own Kingboyk. The story had an amusing second wave in the news and on Misplaced Pages; be sure to read the article on Guy Goma if you missed it!
Project News
  • The hottest Project page this month has been Policy Talk, where some lively discussion has taken place regarding the (perennial) question of the capitalisation of the letter T in "The Beatles". After seeking the comments of Wikipedian third parties unrelated to the project, the proponents and opponents concluded that the current naming policy was correct. The discussion had the added bonus of bringing in some new members.
Member News
  • Project member (and "co-instigator" of The Beatles Project) Lar was made an Administrator. Project member Kingboyk (the other guilty party) has been awarded a Music Barnstar for his contributions, including his work within The Beatles Project, and has also stewarded the KLF article to Featured Article status this month. Sometimes-contributor ZincOrbie has also been awarded a Barnstar for his work on the Badfinger article. Congratulations to all!
Issue of the Month

The matter of the article History of the Beatles and the History section of the main article The Beatles continues to concern various editors, including DavidWBrooks and Vera, Chuck & Dave. Suggestions, comments, or help with the task would be much appreciated.

From the Editors

The Beatles have been in the real world news recently, but work on The Beatles Project continues as before. This newsletter keeps you up-to-date with what has been happening with the project and, perhaps more importantly, what needs to be done (see the "Issue of the Month" above and the "To Do List" below-left).

If you've just joined, add your name to the Participants section of Misplaced Pages:WikiProject The Beatles. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!

Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 003 – July 2006). All and any contributions are welcome. Just let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or start editing!

Blnguyen's RfA

File:Atlanticpuffin4.jpg Hello Banes. Thank you for your full support and gracious comment at my request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation - espcially for a respected admin and Esperanza icon to come out of a break to support. You can see me in action and observe what then happened as a result. Naturally, if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out. I look forward to working with you in the future, possibly on cricket articles. Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 04:05, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

A haiku of thanks

Thanks for your support
In my RfA, which passed!
Wise I'll try to be.

You have no idea how big of a smile was brought to my face when I saw that you had briefly escaped from your wikibreak and gave me your support - I have the absolute utmost respect for you as an editor, and it means the world. Thanks again, and I hope your wikibreak continues nicely!

Evil!

MUAHAHAHA
MUAHAHAHA
Here is an 6/6/6, aka Evil Day, greeting for you friend. These type of messages promote WikiLove in an unknown way. Spread this evil love to others by making a derivative work of this... Or another evil something that is flowing about. The King of Kings 20:17, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Returned?!!

The wikibreak messages have disappeared - is it true? Are you really back?! Good to see you back here!! Follow up: The Barnstar Brigade page confirms it! The community will certainly be glad to have you back. And SATs are awful, that must be very nice to have them all done. -- Natalya 15:48, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

That's not good about the SUV - hope you're okay! But more time on Misplaced Pages is always a good thing, and now you have an excuse for it too. -- Natalya 19:12, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
You could type really, really fast and claim that it was physical excercise. ;) -- Natalya 19:44, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Oh joy!

More haiku!

A warm welcome back

To our dear Banes, who's now more

Smiley than ever!

Hello There, Banes.

Hello there, as YOU seem to call yourself, Banes. Just so you know, I, Shane Manners, 17 years of age and a Canadian Resident, am the ONLY Banes that should be walking gods green earth. I've held the nickname since about 6 years of age. So this would be the 11th year. That is all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by The Real Banes (talkcontribs)

well then why weren't you registered here on Misplaced Pages with the name in 2001? ;) - Adolphus79 06:54, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Admin coaching

Hi Banes, I see you are listed as coaching SFGiants, however it is listed as 'pending'. Could you please either move that to active if it is, or let me know if you are ok to take on a new trainee. Cheers, Petros471 20:20, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

PS. The picture of stern Banes is less scary than smiley Banes :) Petros471 20:21, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I've assigned you to Soumyasch (with Sango123 of course!). Cheers, Petros471 19:31, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello

I hope that you had a nice WikiBreak. Anonymous_anonymous_Have a Nice Day 22:32, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm doing fine at the moment. :-) Anonymous_anonymous_Have a Nice Day 22:04, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

How's it going?

Hmm...your new sig looks so familiar, yet I can't seem to put my finger on it... :P

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed your break. Cheers! Robert 02:29, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Hey, it doesn't matter to me if you use it. It does look pretty cool, now that I think about it. :) Cheers, Robert 16:12, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

My RFA

Banes, thank you very much for your support in my recent Request for adminship, it passed with a final tally of (65/3/3) - which I find both amazing and humbling. I wish I had time to thank everyone personally, but I'm afraid all I can offer is this token of my gratitude. I hope to live up to your expectations/hopes. If at any stage you need to contact me, for help or a request or to point out a mistake in my conduct, please make sure to tell me on my talk page. --Fir0002 08:34, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi

Hi. I am Soum and have been assigned as your, along with Sango123's new admin trainee. Took this as an opportunity to introduce myself. --soumyasch 10:03, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Nice 2 meet u 2, Daniel. First let us sort out the differences in time zone, by stating wrt gmt when we are generally active. That would help us know when to expect quick responses. :-) I am generally active from 5 am to 3-5 pm gmt, generally. --soumyasch 13:12, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

Hello, Banes, and thank you for the very kind words and supportive vote on my recent RfA! With a final vote of 84/1/4, I have now been entrusted with the mop, bucket and keys. I will be slowly acclimating myself to my new tools over the next months, but welcome any and all feedback and suggestions on how I might be able to use them to help the project. You are a great example to others of how to interface on Misplaced Pages. Thanks again! - Kukini 17:08, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Oh, go on, then...

ЯЄDVERS awards this Barnstar to Banes for being a great mate, for being reasonable, for being a Wikiholic, for being determined, for being very good looking, for standing up for principle, for helping others, for calmly stating his opinions and for holding his nerve.
