Photographs/media work
I have always been a prolific uploader of media to our projects, and have been also been pro-active and prolific in obtaining media under relicencing and the like from a multitude of photographers, organisations and governments. As I go through my uploads, I make it a point to get relevant media into relevant articles at that time. An example of this is File:Ralph Gonsalves (cropped).jpg which is in use across multiple projects on a multitude of articles -- this photo is not in use at all on English Misplaced Pages, which instead still uses this poorer quality image. Due to the sheer amount of image work I do, I get images into use where relevant as I finish working on them, as can be seen by my contributions on, for example, Polish Misplaced Pages, and then I move onto the next image. Below are examples of such media.
Article work
Articles which I will be working on include:
- Drukair - bringing it up to FA (already GA)
- Vance Joy - expand it greatly
- Riptide (Vance Joy song) - this needs to be greatly expanded
- Aeroflot - bringing it up to GA, then FA (I have already done a lot of work on this, will look at having topic ban removed)
- Sukhoi Superjet 100 - bring it up to GA, then FA
Articles which I intend on creating, mainly by way of media I've uploaded include:
- Stage Door Johnnies (male burlesque)
- Jett Adore
- Jordan and Zac Stenmark
- Jordan and Zac Stenmark
- Jordan and Zac Stenmark
- Desert Commuter Airlines
- New Gen Airways
- Munsu Water Park
- Masikryong Ski Resort (87 photos available in Commons:Category:Masikryong Ski Resort)
Other articles I was looking at creating:
- Ski Jumping Pairs -- inspiration from this
- Ilham Anas - id:Ilham Anas - previously deleted on this project but obviously passes WP:GNG
Dealing with copyright and image issues
- Victor_Chang#Death - remove statements: "Chang was chosen, at random, from a magazine photo featuring notable Asians who had "made it good" in Australia; and, Chang knew that this extortion attempt was no accident when the assailants spoke to him by name in Mandarin." -- sourced to unreliable source, and is also a copyright violation of that unreliable source.
- Remove File:Victor Chang.jpg from Chinese Australians, it doesn't comply with NFCC.
- Delete File:Frank Lorenzo, TXI, 1977.jpg, it doesn't comply with NFCC, subject is still living
- Nominate File:Moomba parade.jpg - no evidence this is a govt image and is after the 1 January 1955 cut-off date
- Nominate File:Fly Jamaica Airways Boeing 757-200.jpg - low resolution, no EXIF, 2013 photo, usually indicates copyvio
- Delete File:George Tupou V Coronation.jpg, it no longer complies with the NFCC
- Delete File:Mark Donaldson VC 19-01-2009 fair use claimed.jpg, it no longer complies with the NFCC
- Delete File:Trooper Donaldson being awarded VC fair use claimed.jpg, it doesn't comply with the NFCC
- Files uploaded by User:Andreas11213 are not compliant with licencing conditions, and hence are copyright violations as they stand now. File:Sen Hon Brett Mason.jpg is an example of this (refer to File:Brett Mason.jpg to see how it should be!)
- Special:ListFiles/Biicl are likely copyvios. They are a range of resolutions from large to thumbnail, some with EXIF, some with EXIF but varying cameras.
- Nominate File:Ralph O'Neal appointed first premier.jpg, there's no EXIF data, and possibly not own work.
- Nominate File:Lancaster House Conference for Kenya's Independance.jpg, File:Kenyan Leaders.jpg and File:Evelyn Baring with Zafrud Deen.jpg - they are unlikely work of the uploader
Moves
WikiProject work
- With the kind help of User:Hym411, who translated Commons:User:Russavia/Flickr-letter into Korean for me, I managed to have the Korean Culture and Information Service relicence their Flickr stream to CC-BY-SA (Commons:Template:Korea.net). Hym411 has advised ko.wp of the existence of the photos, which can be found at Commons:Category:Files from Korea.net Flickr stream, and it would be beneficial to this project if I was able to advise Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Korea of the existence of these photos so that these extremely highly valuable photos can be put into relevant articles. In 24 hours, ko.wp has begun to put these images into use as seen here
- To engage with Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Aviation to try and get help from project editors in compiling lists of official Flickr/social media photostreams of airports/airlines/manufacturers/etc to get media relicenced so they can be uploaded to Commons.
- The same thing but with other WikiProjects for individual countries to get help to compiles lists of governments/major corporations, etc.
- With the kind help of User:Zhuyifei1999, approximately 3,500 photos from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office which I had made available under the OGL have now been uploaded to Commons at Commons:Category:Files from Foreign and Commonwealth Office Flickr stream (to check). It would be beneficial to this project if I was able to advise Misplaced Pages:WikiProject International relations and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject United Kingdom of their existence.
Re:Biman interior

Air Caribbean (Puerto Rico)
Dear Russavia: Thanks for creating Air Caribbean (Puerto Rico)! For a guy from Perth, you sure know a LOT about Puerto Rican aviation history! (I sure wish I on the other hand, knew as much about Australian Aviation history, but I can only go as far as Qantas and Ansett Airlines, lol!)
God bless!

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 photos of aircraft involved in search
A local photographer here in YPPH has kindly emailed to me 3 photos of some of the aircraft involved in the search for MH370 -- there is one for the USN P-8 Poseidon and 2 for the Chinese PLAAF aircraft. You can find the photos in Commons:Category:2014 at Perth Airport. These photos are appearing here on Misplaced Pages before they hit airliners.net, so it is nice of Darren to do this for us; please get them into use as you see fit. - @Lynbarn: in reference to Talk:Malaysia_Airlines_Flight_370#Photo_of_IL-76_assigned_to_MH370_search, it is at YPPH, not Pearce. Russavia (talk) 23:42, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
Unusual edit -- did the New York Times change a story without a note?
I came across an edit on English Misplaced Pages article for Berkut which was done by Jimbo Wales (talk · contribs). The article is basically just a quote from the New York Times, but when checking the referenced article, I can't find the quote, nor even reference to what is asserted in the article. The linked article was snapshotted 3 times on 28 January 2014 by the Wayback Machine, but again the quote is not contained in any of these snapshotted articles. The Kyiv Post does have a reference to the article, but when one clicks on their link it goes to the article which doesn't contain the quote. I can also find no reference on the NY Times website to this article using varying quotes.
Whilst the case of Mykhailo Gavrylyuk, the Euromaidan protester who was made to stand outside naked, is true, the case of Yury Verbytsky is less clear; there being no clear firm evidence that Berkut was involved in his kidnapping, torture and death.
One could assume that the NYT pulled their article, for whatever reason. It is in instances such as this that webcitation.org can come in handy, but even then if an organisation pulls an article one can assume that there were factual errors that made the article untenable to keep in print, and our projects should follow the lead and pull information from our articles. But in this instance, the information is still sitting in the article at the time I write this. I did raise this on IRC in #wikipedia-en but nothing was done with it.
Major international events such as the protests in Ukraine and the resultant coup/revolution and accession/annexation of Crimea to/into Russia often see English Misplaced Pages articles reflecting what is in English-language media at the time, and as one can see from Jimmy's edit this can turn editors into unwitting quasi-propagandists. One really should be careful in using media sources on such issues, because the information is due to change at the drop of a hat, and sometimes people will not see these changes but the information is left in our articles.
But what makes this situation odd is that the NYT will usually notate corrections in articles, but in this case they haven't. This is odd. Could someone please ask Jimmy if he may have used webcitation.org or still has a copy of the article available on his local machine. Russavia (talk) 12:17, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
