The Valencia subway accident occurred at Valencia, Spain, on July 3, 2006, at 1 p.m. (1100 GMT) between Jesús and Plaza de España stations of the Valencia metro. At least 41 people were killed and more than 10 were seriously injured.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, but there were suggestions the train was travelling too fast.
Defective wheels or the possible collapse of a tunnel wall were also being considered as possible causes.
