The Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australia (known colloquially as Whitehouse) is a private art and design college with campuses in inner-city Melbourne and Surry Hills, Sydney. It was founded in 1988 by Leanne Whitehouse. The institute offers Master of Design (M.Des.) and Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) degrees, as well as various vocational education and training (VET) courses and diplomas, including in "design fundamentals", fashion design, millinery, interior design, "visual merchandising", and marketing. The M.Des. degree was first offered in 2014. The institute's Melbourne campus has hosted several seasons of Project Runway Australia.
Frances Abbott, daughter of Liberal Party politician Tony Abbott (then opposition leader), was selected for an occasional "chairman’s scholarship" worth approximately $60 000 in 2011. The scholarship had only been awarded once previously. Abbott's classmates asked if any scholarships were available and were told that there were none for their program. Abbott was selected for the occasional scholarship by the founder and owner of the Whitehouse Institute, Leanne Whitehouse.
