A film based on the Inhumans was first mentioned as being in development in a March 2011 trade report, which described the project as being "in the vein of X-Men" and "about aliens who were put on Earth as a sleeper cell to eventually call back their race to take over the planet." In a September 2011 issue of Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige mentioned that the film was in development, saying that it would feature an ensemble of characters, similar to X-Men and The Avengers. In April 2012, Feige mentioned Inhumans as a property out of which he was "confident" a movie would be made. By August 2014, Marvel was ready to move forward in development of an Inhumans film, with a screenplay written by Joe Robert Cole.
