Jonathan "Jon" Bellion (born December 26, 1990), is an American Singer-songwriter. He was born and raised in Long Island, New York. He has amassed a large internet following through Visionary Music Group. Bellion has released two official mixtapes, with the most recent being The Separation. He is currently signed with Visionary Music Group which consists of Logic, QuESt, and Bellion.
Musical career
Early years
Strictly a producer at age 14, Bellion became increasingly fed up with being asked for generic records. After literally giving singing and rapping "a shot" out of frustration in 2010, the now 23 year old Bellion has developed an incredibly unique lane untouched by anyone. His obsession with moving forward and experimentation has driven him to create "solid and refreshing tunes", and in the words of Jon himself "that's all that really matters." Jon Bellion both composes and produces all of his music himself. From writing the lyrics, to the beats and the mixing, it's all Jon Bellion. He often produces an entire song, mixed and completed, in one day all from the confines of his bedroom. Jon is truly a genius.
Bellion is an incredibly talented athlete as well. A natural born leader, Bellion earned All Conference honors and was captain of both his varsity basketball and volleyball teams. Growing up on Long Island, New York, Bellion's first love was basketball, as he had aspirations of playing at the college level. However, in Bellion's junior year of high school it became abundantly clear that music was what he truly desired to invest his life in.
Bellion recalls one key element that diverted his course from pursuing athletics to music. For years Bellion had listened to his older brother Billy play the piano on a Triton keyboard. Jon became utterly captivated by music and began playing his brother's piano daily. As time progressed, his musicality and talent "felt natural" to him. His ability and quickly developed passion for the art was all the confirmation he needed to make the decision to turn his full attention and focus to music; it was his calling.
By the end of high school, Bellion was investing all of his time and energy into his music and decided to attend the highly esteemed college of music and the performing arts, Five Towns College. By living on campus, Bellion positioned himself in a "hot bed" of artists who shared the same passion and goals. Here, Jon grew as an artist and further developed his skills of producing and performing, thus establishing "Beautiful Mind Entertainment." Combining exceptional talent and fearless ambition, Jon Bellion is developing what he refers to as a "movement" with the launching of his project, "Beautiful Mind" that has no intentions of following the norm. "It's not cool to be negative or stupid. We live in a time that needs enlightenment, especially with expression through music" he says. "We're here for anyone with a beautiful mind." His unique approach to music has afforded him the opportunity to showcase his sound at exclusive, high profile events such as the Presidential Inner Circle Pre-Grammy Party that took place in Hollywood, California. His song "Moped Girl" was also spotlighted on NBC radio's "Tha Juke Joint" show.
Jon's first mixtape, "Scattered Thoughts Vol. 1" was released in early 2011 via his Facebook page, and organically reached over 11,000 downloads. His music is so poetically insightful, with his finger on the pulse of his generation and those to follow.
2012-present
Jon Bellion truly rose to success after he signed with Visionary Music Group in 2012, by dropping a cover of Drake's "The Motto" on VMG's YouTube page. VMG was originally a management firm, but has grown to an independent record label since it was launched by Chris Zarou in 2010. VMG has developed into a full service, holistic management firm which is focused on building artist's careers and brands using strong digital strategies and marketing. Visionary prides itself on "breaking" artists and allowing them a platform to build a long term future within the music industry. Current roster includes Maryland hip hop artist and 2013 XXL Freshman Logic and pop singer, Miami hip hop artist QuESt and songwriter Jon Bellion. Bellion released two mixtapes under VMG entitled, Translation Through Speakers which released in February 2013 and The Separation which released in December 2013. Bellion found a lot of success through those two mixtapes.
In 2014, Bellion wrote the chorus to the #1 hit song "The Monster" by Eminem featuring Rihanna which went 3× Platinum in the US. Bellion also co-wrote and produced the song "Trumpets" by Jason Derulo in 2012, but was not released until 2013 in the UK and 2014 in the US.
Jon Bellion is releasing his 3rd installment under Visionary on September 23, 2014. That project will be titled The Definition with already released songs "Munny Right", "Simple and Sweet", "Luxury", and "Carry your Throne" to be featured. Bellion is also going on a 25 date tour with his band/friends from college, BTP also known as Beyond This Point. The tour is to be called The Beautiful Mind Tour, it kicks off on October 1, 2014.
