There is a sock playing around with the News One article. They have caused "vandalism" in the past, but it appears they have made good edits that add/delete some material at the same time. Upcoming film redirects

Sure Bgwhite, here are some from the last couple of pages/days from CA's contribution history:

Those are the ones going back just to 18th July. Several follow the pattern of 1) create stub 2) slight expansion of stub 3) redirect to director! Lugnuts 18:22, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Lugnuts, thank you. I see the pattern picking up speed in June. But, there a questionable creations earlier. In addition, there are movie articles created without asking me first. Per his unblock agreement, Assassin is supposed to create an article in his sandbox and ask me to movie it. He has been doing this, as evidenced by messages on my talk page, but not doing it for all films. I see this as very serious matter. An explanation is in order. @Lugnuts: Yes, I created the redirects but only which have confirmed filming start dates, like you can see 4, 5, 6, and 7, these all have a recent start dates. I didn't create the redirects a rush form I used to create last year. While 1, 2, and 3, were only created to lead readers to their parent article like I did here. You can see, if I've created any bad redirects then I'll ask for punish myself. I only created of films whose development were moving quickly, just to lead readers to main article like everyone has rights to do it. I admitted I did wrong in the past, last year I created redirects of films which weren't supposed to be in development for even in a year or two, but now you can see 4 will begin in early August, 6 in just two days, and 7 in 10 days, and others are also moving fast.
@Bgwhite: Yes ,I created film articles without sandbox, but they were only a few, they were already redirects, so I just added confirmed sources and created them myself. I've only created a few which I can list here, if they seem to be created wrong or have any mistakes, I'll leave Misplaced Pages there. --Captain Assassin! 23:39, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
You agreed not to create articles or redirects without asking first.
Articles and redirects are not to be created until filming has started, not about to start. I got after RAP for the same thing.

Ride Along

I don't mean to be rude, but I would strongly recommend cancelling your GA nomination of it. The prose is in need of a lot of work, especially in the plot section. If I were to review it (which I won't, because I've contributed) I would probably quick fail it, to be honest with you. I'm sorry I haven't contributed as much as I planned to—I've barely had any leisure time to watch the film—but I think you should seriously consider rescinding the nomination. Sound's great to me, and I never mind or take personally. I'm kind of a person who laughs when someone even abuse me and you didn't even offend or abuse me. WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive

Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!

TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.

If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.

At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.

As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup

Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!

As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:

For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.

For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).

The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

WikiCup 2014 August newsletter

The final of the 2014 WikiCup begins in a few short minutes! Our eight finalists are listed below, along with their placement in Round 4:

  1. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer, finished top of Pool A and was the round's highest scorer. Godot is a featured picture specialist, claiming large numbers of points due to high-quality scans of historical documents, especially banknotes.
  2. Scotland Casliber (submissions) is a WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist every year since 2010. In the semi-final, he was Pool B's highest scorer. Cas's points primarily come from articles on the natural sciences.
  3. Nepal Czar (submissions) was Pool A's runner-up. Czar's points come mostly from content related to independent video games, including both articles and topics.
  4. Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Pool B's runner-up. Another featured picture specialist, many of Adam's points come from the restoration of historical media. He has been a WikiCup finalist twice before.
  5. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) won the WikiCup in 2012 and 2013, and enters this final as the first wildcard. She focuses on biology-related articles, and has worked on several high-importance articles.
  6. Florida 12george1 (submissions) is the second wildcard. George's points come primarily from meteorology-related articles. This year and last year, George was the first person in the competition to score.
  7. Colorado Sturmvogel 66 (submissions), the third wildcard, was the 2010 champion and a finalist last year. His writes mostly on military history, especially naval history.
  8. Canada Bloom6132 (submissions), the fourth and final wildcard, has participated in previous WikiCups, but not reached any finals. Bloom's points are mostly thanks to did you knows, featured lists and good articles related to sport and national symbols.

We say goodbye to this year's semi-finalists. Herm Matty.007 (submissions), Ohio ThaddeusB (submissions), United States WikiRedactor (submissions), Idaho Figureskatingfan (submissions), Greece Yellow Evan (submissions), Portugal Prism (submissions) and Bartošovice v Orlických horách Cloudz679 (submissions) have all performed well to reach this stage of the competition, and we hope they will all be joining us again next year.

There are two upcoming competitions unrelated to the WikiCup which may be of interest to those who receive this newsletter. The Stub Contest will run through September, and revolves around expanding stub articles, especially high-importance or old stubs. In addition, a proposal has been made for a new competition, the GA Cup, which the organisers plan to run next year. This competition is based on the WikiCup and aims to reduce the good article review backlog.

There is now a thread for brainstorming on how next year's WikiCup competition should work. Please come along and share your thoughts- What works? What doesn't work? What needs changing? Signups for next year's competition will be open soon; we will be in touch. If, at this stage of the competition, you are keen to help the with the WikiCup, please do what you can to participate in review processes. Our finalists will find things much easier if the backlogs at good article candidates, featured article candidates, featured picture candidates and the rest are kept at a minimum. WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup

WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers.

Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition.

Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now!

Dr. Blofeld, yep, I've seen the original, but it was so small even after a year of release, data was really out-dated. Reviewer TonyTheTiger helped me so much in its expansion. The funny thing is, in the start of review, TonyTheTiger said me indirectly to cancel the Nom because it was so small, but I said I would do it. In start I thought reviewer was so tough as he pop out this and that issue, and he'll not let me take this article to GA. But I admit it now that he really helped me a lot. Well VeryCrocker, actually the background started from Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and opponent Imran Khan's fights on different issues, currently going on in the country. So now members/workers of both parties are attacking each other wherever they found a place like free-to-edit sites, like forums, Facebook and Misplaced Pages, etc. I'll suggest please protect the page for until all problems are solved and people would calm down. WikiCup 2014 September newsletter

In one month's time, we will know our WikiCup 2014 champion. Newcomer Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) has taken a strong lead with a featured list (historical coats of arms of the U.S. states from 1876) and a raft of featured pictures. Reigning champion Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) is in second place with a number of high-importance biology articles, including new FA Isopoda and new GA least weasel. Scotland Casliber (submissions), who is in his fifth WikiCup final, is in third, with featured articles Pictor and Epacris impressa.

Marketing

Why do you keep creating "Marketing" sections that go against the guidelines? MOS:FILM#Marketing clearly states, in bold, "Do not merely identify and describe the content of customary marketing methods such as trailers, TV spots, radio ads, and posters." There cannot be such a section until reliable sources that provide useful commentary actually appear. For most films, there won't be that kind of commentary. If you really want, you can keep links about marketing on the talk page until there is commentary to include, then some of the links would be useful. Sometimes trailers have commentary, like being noticed for getting a lot of views, but releases of photos are very rarely worth noting. Erik (talk | contrib) 18:37, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

I just suggest thinking about the value such details add or do not add. Just about every film comes out with trailers and posters. Marketing content, we need to be sensitive about per WP:PROMO, because we can't come off sounding like we are dutifully sharing everything that is publicized. That's why we need to follow secondary sources in that regard. If a trailer comes out and it is just its release that is reported, it's not of value. If the trailer comes out and makes a unique impact, like getting a large enough number of views for a reliable source to report, then we reference that report. As for Angry Birds, animated films are tricky. I see that they just cast some actors recently, but the production process tends to be different. Some stuff is probably planned out by now, but not sure how much of the film is complete. WP:NFF does have a passage about animated films worth following. Hello, I wanted to direct you to the policy of WP:LINKFARM, which MOS:FILM#External links is based on. WP:ELNO in particular states not to add "any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a featured article." This means that standard overview websites like ComingSoon.net and MovieWeb are not appropriate for inclusion. Links for Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic are appropriate because they can give readers access to many more reviews than what an article can contain; same with Box Office Mojo and box office data. VisualEditor newsletter—September and October 2014

Did you know?

TemplateData is a separate program that organizes information about the parameters that can be used in a template. VisualEditor reads that data, and uses it to populate its simplified template dialogs.

With the new TemplateData editor, it is easier to add information about parameters, because the ones you need to use are pre-loaded.

See the help page for TemplateData for more information about adding TemplateData. The user guide has information about how to use VisualEditor.

Since the last newsletter, the Editing team has reduced technical debt, simplified some workflows for template and citation editing, made major progress on Internet Explorer support, and fixed over 125 bugs and requests. Several performance improvements were made, especially to the system around re-using references and reference lists. Weekly updates are posted on Mediawiki.org.

There were three issues that required urgent fixes: a deployment error that meant that many buttons didn't work correctly (bugs 69856 and 69864), a problem with edit conflicts that left the editor with nowhere to go (bug 69150), and a problem in Internet Explorer 11 that caused replaced some categories with a link to the system message, MediaWiki:Badtitletext (bug 70894) when you saved. The developers apologize for the disruption, and thank the people who reported these problems quickly.

Increased support for devices and browsers

Internet Explorer 10 and 11 users now have access to VisualEditor. This means that about 5% of Wikimedia's users will now get an "Edit" tab alongside the existing "Edit source" tab. Support for Internet Explorer 9 is planned for the future.

Tablet users browsing the site's mobile mode now have the option of using a mobile-specific form of VisualEditor. More editing tools, and availability of VisualEditor on smartphones, is planned for the future. The mobile version of VisualEditor was tweaked to show the context menu for citations instead of basic references (bug 68897). A bug that broke the editor in iOS was corrected and released early (bug 68949). For mobile tablet users, three bugs related to scrolling were fixed (bug 66697bug 68828bug 69630). You can use VisualEditor on the mobile version of Misplaced Pages from your tablet by clicking on the cog in the top-right when editing a page and choosing which editor to use.

TemplateData editor

A tool for editing TemplateData will be deployed to more Wikipedias soon.  Other Wikipedias and some other projects may receive access next month. This tool makes it easier to add TemplateData to the template's documentation.  When the tool is enabled, it will add a button above every editing window for a template (including documentation subpages). To use it, edit the template or a subpage, and then click the "Edit template data" button at the top.  Read the help page for TemplateData. You can test the TemplateData editor in a sandbox at Mediawiki.org. Remember that TemplateData should be placed either on a documentation subpage or on the template page itself. Only one block of TemplateData will be used per template.

Other changes

Several interface messages and labels were changed to be simpler, clearer, or shorter, based on feedback from translators and editors. The formatting of dialogs was changed, and more changes to the appearance will be coming soon, when VisualEditor implements the new MediaWiki theme from Design. (A preview of the theme is available on Labs for developers.) The team also made some improvements for users of the Monobook skin that improved the size of text in toolbars and fixed selections that overlapped menus.

VisualEditor-MediaWiki now supplies the mw-redirect or mw-disambig class on links to redirects and disambiguation pages, so that user gadgets that colour in these in types of links can be created.

Templates' fields can be marked as 'required' in TemplateData. If a parameter is marked as required, then you cannot delete that field when you add a new template or edit an existing one (bug 60358). 

Language support improved by making annotations use bi-directional isolation (so they display correctly with cursoring behaviour as expected) and by fixing a bug that crashed VisualEditor when trying to edit a page with a dir attribute but no lang set (bug 69955).

Looking ahead

The team posts details about planned work on the VisualEditor roadmap. The VisualEditor team plans to add auto-fill features for citations soon, perhaps in late October.

The team is also working on support for adding rows and columns to tables, and early work for this may appear within the month. Please comment on the design at Mediawiki.org.

In the future, real-time collaborative editing may be possible in VisualEditor. Some early preparatory work for this was recently done.

Supporting your wiki

At Wikimania, several developers gave presentations about VisualEditor. A translation sprint focused on improving access to VisualEditor was supported by many people. Deryck Chan was the top translator. Special honors also go to संजीव कुमार (Sanjeev Kumar), Robby, Takot, Bachounda, Bjankuloski06 and Ата. No Bgwhite, I don't think it is shooting right now. The last news about film was on September 29, 2014, in some sources it was mentioned as "all set to begin shoot," but nothing like it was shooting or when it would be.
