Citations

I do not understand this article needs more citations: There are 3 links to the original science publications over "2MASS" on the internet, the title article is an own citation of an scientific project, in the article there is a table with citations over the organizations who made the scientific project and the data sources. Is anywhere an article on Misplaced Pages with more citations than that article? Vibria (talk) 16:41, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

I am late to answer this question, but quite often readers are looking for inline citations to verify what they are reading is from a reliable source. -- Kheider (talk) 16:05, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Additional references to add

I'd like to expand this article, so as a placeholder for myself (and other interested editors), I'm putting links/citations for refs to use here.AstroCog (talk) 12:28, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Notability

There is a discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Astronomical objects#WISE object notability and Talk:WISEPC J150649.97+702736.0#Notability that has implications for 2MASS objects.

Specifically, the question being asked is whether a slightly more liberal notability test is appropriate for the closest objects to Sol, such as the nearest brown dwarfs discovered by WISE.

Comments welcome either here or on either of those two pages. The discussion on the WISE page should of course focus on WISE objects, that here on 2MASS objects, and that on the WikiProject talk page on astronomical objects generally. But there's some interconnection, equally obviously. Andrewa (talk) 07:03, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

At the moment 2MASS survey is referred in numerous scientific papers. Where to find additional citations for impact this survey had on astronomy? --Artman40 (talk) 10:52, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

List of nearby objects

This table is not a useful addition to the article, for several reasons.

  • no explanation is given in the article as to why this information is important or relevant.
  • it violates NPOV, giving extremely excessive weight to a tiny aspect of the 2MASS survey.
  • it seems to be original research, having been compiled by a wikipedia editor rather than sourced from a reference.

No good reason has been given for its inclusion by the editor who is trying to force it in. The article is short so leave it in? Not a good reason. People have asked specifically for this information? Who? When? I suggested making a new article for this, which would be a perfectly good solution if you feel this information is valuable. Why did you reject that option? 201.215.187.159 (talk) 14:16, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

"I don't like it" is not a good reason to blank material. Feel free to expand the article and/or create a section discussing 2MASS galaxies. There are people that are curious as to some of the closest objects discovered/studied by 2MASS. -- Kheider (talk) 11:50, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
And I've removed it again. WP:UNDUE states that we must not give certain aspects of a situation undue weight over others. By including this table, nearby stars are given massively undue weight over much more scientifically important discoveries such as quasars and neutron stars.
