Potty language
is this the way DakotaKahn treats new contributors?
that was about as friendly as a smack in the face.
who is she to call it patent nonsense, and what does that even mean, anyway?
eelevy —This unsigned comment is by Eelevy (talk • contribs) .
- Thanks for the note. I'm sure DakotaKahn meant no offense (in fact, in my experience she is one of the kinder admins). The "patent nonsense" tag was put on as the criteria to be deleted, although I certainly don't think it actually fit the definition. I should note that it was not DakotaKahn who added that tag; she deleted the article, but another user added the tag. I suspect it was more a case of people working to fast to fight vandalism (a continual problem here). I apologize for the confusion. Thanks, --TeaDrinker 02:08, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- I did not add the speedy tag I substrated it which helps prevent corruption of the template. Just followed the link you added and fixed it. The speedy was already there. BTW see this diff . Thank you for your comments above.--Dakota ~ ° 03:02, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. I think you were editing an old version here is the diff. I did note the vandalism, and left a note on the user's page. Yes, my patience for petty vandals does run out pretty quickly, but an ounce of prevention, as they say. In any event, thanks for fighting the good fight. --TeaDrinker 03:07, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- I guess it was an old version but there. The server is a little slow today. Thank you for the note on that page. I didn't want to complicate unduly. Another admin deleted the talk page which was empty at the time I did the speedy so evidently the topic got carried there too. Thanks again.--Dakota ~ ° 03:16, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Question about article
http://en.wikipedia.org/Curse_and_mark_of_Cain
Should this be edited or contested in some way to replace all of the YHWH with God? I wasn't sure how religion fell into article guidelines as I'm sure they're a touchy subject.
Bradford Johnson 17:01, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- It looks like it indeed could use some editing. There is a pretty good discussion going on the talk page about various aspects of the article, the Tetragrammaton however is not among them. I don't think there is a style guide that indicates usage. The God -> YHWH was done last August here by COGDEN (talk • contribs). It may not be a bad idea to first propose the change on the talk page, and perhaps drop a note to COGDEN (although his last edit was early Feb.) about it. I do think using common language improves readiblity. I've even feel comfortable changing YHWH -> God and then putting a note about the change on the talk page (it can always be reverted if there is some compelling reason for it). In general, be bold, but as you noted, religion is a touchy subject. I'll certainly add the page to my watchlist and participate in any discussion there, if need be. Thanks, --TeaDrinker 19:33, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Great questions!
- Regarding siging posts, in general, you should sign any post to a talk page (either a user's talk page, like this one, or on discussion pages of articles, found by clicking the "discussion" tab at the top of the screen). Although edits to any page, talk or article, are logged in the same way, it just makes discussion a bit easier to follow. There is even a guideline sign your posts, but just about everyone forgets to sign occasionally, and often other people will add the {{unsigned}} tag (as I have done above).
- About Pro and Con, I am unaware of any format specifications for such a page; they are pretty rare on Misplaced Pages. Often, such pages are not not neutrally written. The outline you have created seems pretty effective, although you may want to replace teh section "The reality of the facts and the explanation of certain facts" with footnotes from each disputed fact. If you're not sure how to integrate specific ideas, you can also discuss it on the article's talk page. Does this help?
Thanks, and keep up the good work and welcome to Misplaced Pages! --TeaDrinker 00:39, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- you have a message (it was said to leave the message at the botom of the page) 00 tux 00:51, 18 March 2006 (UTC) response and a question about GFDL
you have NO message...but thank a lot...i never know if it's better to thank people(loose their precious time+ incrase trafic on Special:Recentchanges) by the way is there any "very advanced" mediawiki howto for doing things such as < ! -- -->
- No problem, and I think many people appreciate a user saying "job well done." The commenting feature of HTML (the bracket exclamation point business) makes text invisible. For instance, if you were to look at "edit this page" you could see a sentence here: . This is occasionally done in articles for a variety of reasons:
- Put in a notice about vandalism (such as is done on Chuck Norris, which is also, at present, semi-protected), or when the same mistake is made by many users,
- Automated bots sometimes also "remove" an image by enclosing it in comments, when the image may be added incorrectly.
- In rare cases, text additions are put in comments so that other editors can see them, before the material is added to the article properly. This is usually a bad use of the comments, since it makes things confusing to edit.
- They often appear at the end of semi-automated template messages, to indicate which message was used (that is where the "Template:Unsigned"). So, for instance, I wrote {{subst:unsigned|00 tux}}, and the unsigned template was added. If you want to try out some templates (which are always enclosed in two curly-braces) in the Misplaced Pages:Sandbox, a pretty good list of common template messages is available at WP:TM.
Thanks, --TeaDrinker 01:39, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- you have a message 00 tux 02:19, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- You may have better knowledge of the subject than I, my Wiki code abilities are pretty much limited to what what I use frequently (just kind of picking it up as I go). Most of the advanced stuff is on pages specific to what you're trying to accomplish: Misplaced Pages:Extended image syntax covers complex image placement issues, Help:Formula covers how to script math, etc. I don't know of a central list of all the help in great depth, other than Misplaced Pages:Help.
- I'm not sure; I'm not aware of any such feature on Misplaced Pages (although we do have a page, InterWiki about doing simialr things). We do have links to sister projects at Misplaced Pages:Template_messages/Links#Sister_projects as templates, which can be handy sometimes, although I don't know of anything that sophisticated.
- I just cut and paste... Nothing too complicated.
- Best wishes, --TeaDrinker 03:49, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Request for help
Hi TeaDrinker. Thanks for posting up that information on my page. For Part I of my paper, I am going through a highly abbreviated discussion/history of Misplaced Pages. I was hoping to take you up on your kind offer of help. Specifically, I was wondering if you knew of any instances of Misplaced Pages policies changing or promulgating as a result of the Seigenthaler incident. I know that now unregistered users cannot create new pages. I've also run across WP:OFFICE. Can you (or anyone, for that matter) think of anything else? Thanks! -- Ksm10 22:53, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm, history of any depth may have me stumped. I have not been editing for as much time as perhaps would be helpful. One source of (05-06) history is the Misplaced Pages:Signpost, which is breif news spots on the material. I am unaware of any other fallout from the Seigenthaler business beyond WP:OFFICE and restricting page creation to regsitered users. Perhaps Misplaced Pages:Semi-protection policy is related (although it is perhaps more geared toward fighting vandalism short-term), and an increased awareness of libel law (see Misplaced Pages:Libel and one of the warning for breaking the policy, {{defwarn}}). I'll bet you will be able to get a more complete reply by posting a question on Misplaced Pages:Village pump (miscellaneous). Thanks, and sorry for the delay in replying. --TeaDrinker 00:04, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Don't be a Surf Nazi
Your judgment of what is a good reference link and what is just a commercial website is somewhat poor. A website with wonderful content and information for a beginning hobbyist that has advertising but is not selling any products is not truly considered a commercial website.
Please don't rule out a contribution to the community because it either might compete with one of your own personal sites or you have nothing better to do with every moment of your life except patrol wiki.
- Thanks for the note. I should say upfront that I have no vested interest in any of the links (nor should any editor); my only interest is encyclopedic quality. In this case, I removed a links from a variety of articles, since, although they seemed to be reasonable sites, they were only tangentially related to the articles in question. Remember that Misplaced Pages is not a collection of links (see WP:NOT). To use the link I removed from the Fish article, collecting tropical fish, although fish-related, does not connect to the content of the article more than hundreds or thousands of others. Since the IP you're using seems to have contributed a lot of external links, I sent the {{spam}} message, since I wanted to alert you to the policy. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again, --TeaDrinker 01:20, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

What?
I haven't vandalised anything, sir.
- Thanks for the note. I refer to this edit and this edit, both of which are considered vandalism. --TeaDrinker 00:54, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- Well, like I said, I didn't know about that.
- Then do not worry about it. If your address is a shared IP, then messages recieved at it may go to the wrong recipent. Unfortunately, if further vandalism originates from this IP, then it may be temporarily blocked from editing Misplaced Pages. If need be, we can bring it up as network abuse with the folks at NTL, to whom this address is registered. Thanks, --TeaDrinker 01:02, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Aggressive treatment of Wikepedia contributor
Over the last four months, I have tried to add content numerous times from The Melissa Book. No matter how it is written, it is always removed, mostly by anonymous editor - 'Teadrinker' Even with an extract or an informative piece, it is deleted without any editor even reading it. Are you ever going to leave anything there or do I have to pay for it? Some communication with me instead of deleting every post would be less aggressive by Wikepedia and more conducive to resolution. It is not spam, nor is it vandalism. Melissa BEE melissax@xmelissax.net.au (remove the x)
- Thanks for the note. Misplaced Pages is not generally a vehicle for advertising or product promotion, and since it is a recurrant problem, it is agressively removed. There is no process by which you could pay to have your book included in the encyclopedia. I will note that numerous contributors have removed what appeared to be promotional material about your book. I also note that your IP recieved several notices about it being removed, although because your IP may be shared, it is possible you did not recieve them.
- To answer your question posted on the Talk:Melissa page, the 3 Revert rule (3RR) requires all editors refrain from editing a page to make the same changes more than 3 times in twenty-four hours, see WP:3RR for details, exceptions, etc.
- You are certainly welcome to discuss the the addition of the book further on the article talk page (see the discussion at the bottom of the page). I hope it is clear the reasoning behind such a strong stance against advertising. Almost every Misplaced Pages page is potentially relevant to a huge range of products and services. If the content were not carefully vetted, Misplaced Pages would quickly lose its encyclopedic focus and become a collection of ads.
- As such, if you disagree with my viewpoint (which you are welcome to do, I am an editor just like yourself), I hope you will take up the discussion on the talk page. Remember to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~), to make your name and date stamp appear automatically. While we may have gotten off on a sour note, and disagree about this particular issue, I am happy to help with anything and do hope you stick around and contribute. My Psychology/Personality Type
Hi, just noted the reverted edits on my entry (Taran Rampersad - it doesn't bother me that people know my personality type. In fact, it makes life easier for me. So, if it's against Misplaced Pages standards, that's fine, but if you're worried about what I think - peh. I sometimes don't make sense to people, and may come across wrong - and that is definitely the mark of an INTJ. :-) I have a strong bias against editing my own entry, so I will not touch it UNLESS something obviously wrong is put in there. Like I'm an ENFJ, or something. :-)
- Thanks for the note. I'm glad to hear that you were not overly concerned about the results being on the page. I'm still not convinced it is terribly encyclopedic (but then, I have a slant against the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator in general as misleading. I'll make a note of it on the talk page. Thank you
Hello TeaDrinker, thank you for reverting vandalism at my user page (well, the guy insulted me as w...). Currently, English is not (yet) my first language, but I am sure that I didn’t write anything offensive at his talk page. I can’t understand such behaviours... shouldn’t he be blocked?--Doktor Who 00:41, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Happy to help. I was encouraged to see that the user removed the comment after the note. Sometimes people are upset for other reasons, and misdirect it... I wouldn't take anyting to personally. Anyhow, welcome to Misplaced Pages and keep up the good work. --TeaDrinker 02:12, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
A&E Link for Height
Hey, I actually thought I forget to hit save when I saw it had reverted back so I reinstated, apologies. I found the direct link to be far more specific to the entry, as the band in question performed the theme song for the said tv show, and are featured in their own section of the network/shows website for just that reason.--Toby57 01:12, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ahh, I understand... My apologies. I see you have already changed it back. Thanks and keep up the great work. --TeaDrinker 01:14, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you my brutha. Peace.--Toby57 01:16, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
WWB Says
Thanks for the welcome -- I answered your question over on my Talk page, I think. But I'm also a bit confused myself about what you were confused about (uh oh). I'm not new to Misplaced Pages, but I am new to the behind-the-scenes here. I do pay attention to Talk pages, but I also don't have all the etiquette down, I'm sure. --WWB 14:54, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
