Survey

Just for my personal interest, and seeing as though User_talk:Blnguyen#All matters relating to religious disputes involving Users Subhash bose, Haphar, WikiSceptic and Anwar saadat involves four editors of four different religions - (Hindu, Sikh, Christian and Muslim) - I was wondering if people thought I was running a personal attack policy in a biased way due to religious POV. So I'm holding a survey to see if I am indulging in religious bias.
What is my religious affiliation?
Very serious comments about possible bias in my actions are welcomed

Survey

I got over my worries about the deletion backlog. It was backlogged by two days on a regular basis, but then I realised that obviously only deleting stuff completely halted my writing activity, which was backlogged 53 days since my last report to New Articles Australia (and any members of WP:BSB reading this, there are tons of soft targets there, softer than me). So I guess that I got a sense of perspective about the backlog of redlinks in Australian Olympic medalists in Swimming - after the creation of Boy Charlton, David Theile and Malcolm Champion all links in the article are now all blue after seven months and some 90+ new articles created. Hopefully it will be passing through WP:FLC soon. Thankyou all for your support.Blnguyen | rant-line 07:05, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

....and I didn't know that people dig up my previous successful noms to create a successful nom ;-) --Gurubrahma 07:09, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

looks great, am sure it will pass easily. However, given that the previous nom was only 2 months back, it may be prudent to wait for a month or so. --Gurubrahma 07:15, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
I eavesdropped. It looks great. Maybe trim down a touch? -- Samir धर्म 07:17, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Barnstar

Thanks for my first barnstar! It is very encouraging. --Kimchi.sg 04:24, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

P.S. Consider changing your signature in the preferences, and enclose the vertical pipe character (|) between the user page and user talk links with <nowiki> </nowiki>. Otherwise part of your signature disappears in the Barnstar box since | is a parameter delimiter as well. Regards, Kimchi.sg | talk 04:44, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Re:RfA Offer

I would like to accept your kind offer to nominate me for adminship - I think it would help me to contribute better to Misplaced Pages. I was actually considering to self-nomimate. --Ed (Edgar181) 12:47, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Wow! You really did your research. Thanks for putting so much time into making such a thorough (and flattering) nomination. I really appreciate it. I have accepted the nomination and answered the questions, so it should be all set. --Ed (Edgar181) 12:03, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

bad practice!!!!!!!!! DELETION EGO

Hi there

My names Shem booth-Spain, im a artist, producer and academic. You deleted the page that was being built for me, and left a rather ignorant comment "an academic who doesn't seem to have PhD

well let me address this, first of all i was accepted and started a PhD course at the university of Greenwich London computing and mathematical sciences, and Plymouth university (planetary colligium) uk with supervisor Roy ascott- I’m not doing that PhD no more, not because i quite or sat on my ass and smoked weed, but because i could not afford it. im only 24, yet my artworks all over the world, ive performed my music in 4 countries, Ive published research, ive spoke at the Technarte 2006 art & technology conference, ive written and produced a double concept album, ive taught and lectured at various university’s, im dyslexic but i play guitar, piano, sing, paint, carve stone, engineer music and produce performance and sonic art, yet your very rude and offending comment gives a very narrow mindset for someone of yr supposed stature(remember your a STUDENT). several people are working on that page of me and are not happy and very disappointed by yr "up your own ass attitude comment"

That page was an ongoing work and not a promo or selling spam. it was the start of a 3rd person perspective on my work.

please could you put that page back and MAIL ME BACK ON THIS MATTER

best regards

Firstly I have to say that WP:AUTO tells us that Autobiography is a poor move, and your doing so is inappropriate. Secondly, I deleted it under Speedy deletion policy criterion a7, and stated a summary of why this is the case. The basis of the article was that you were a music academic, but your substantiation of being a PhD student is not sufficient for this, as it is far from being a sufficeint grounds for inclusion - although you may feel that I am behaving snobbishly, yes I am a PhD student myself, and no, I am not even remotely close to being notable and thirdly I have no intention of writing about myself. No, I did not accuse you of dropping out, as the article did not say that that had happened, and secondly I did not accuse of smoking marijuana either. If you rewrite the article with an explanation of why you are notable, then we'll see what happens. And you might want to disclose if you were the IP that anonymously blanked my userpage yesterday as that IP also spammed various articles with you self-promotional site. Blnguyen | rant-line 04:18, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Srikeit's RfA

Sorry about that. See, I find it a hassle to edit whole articles, and seeing as the RfA page is made up of smaller, less large sections, I usually type in (by hand, manually, without any references to aid me) "Misplaced Pages:Requests for adminship/(name here)" so when I saw his RfA that's what I did, except I didn't notice and forgot to place the two there. Forgive me. Aaрон Кинни (t) 04:23, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

I explained at User talk:Crzrussian the reasons for my having declined the nomination, but I thought I ought to write here to thank you first for your initial support (and the celerity with which it was given) and additionally for your very cordial and understanding message apropos of real life, et cetera. Recapitulating my message to Crz, lest you should have to wade through the mess that once more illustrates that I can't express any thought, irrespective of size or import, in fewer than 200 words, I didn't mean to suggest that I was leaving the project (my diametrically opposed words to the contrary notwithstanding) and wrote cursorily and incompletely only in order that you (or others) shouldn't take time to craft a conomination; I'd intended straightaway to write Crz and you to explain but was stuck at Portal:Tennis. In any case, I'm going to be returning to my full seven-hour exercise program (take that Stephen Holland; I used the wayback machine for that one...)soon, having recovered fully from an abdominal injury, and so I'll not have as much time to edit here for the next few weeks, and the bulk of my edits will surely be to mainspace and portalspace, such that I'd be unlikely to do much with the tools, which is, for most RfA participants, a great turnoff. I meant, then, not to express a disinterest in adminship generally but, rather, a disinterest at the moment, and will edit my RfA comments accordingly. When I can be sure that I'll have more time to contribute here consistently and to aid the project with the admin tools, I'll likely seek adminship, and I hope that, having understood that my denial wasn't some melodramatic I'm leaving the project declaration but, instead, a nip this in the bud and then explain later and individually placeholder, you'll be once more inclined to support me. Apologies for the confusion... Joe 06:41, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Assessments

Hi, and thanks for your Barnstar (I must find somewhere to hang them proud one day). I'm still fiddling with the template and hopefully advancing it to be able to cope with the Australian hierarchy as a whole, or part of it at least in the short term, with support for WikiProjects. I'm just grabbing a sample of most article types for now to see what type of coverage is required by the project, and where coverage is lacking. By breaking Australia down in this sense, we can see which areas of Australian coverage are badly lacking in quality and detail. Feel free to list any articles you'd like to see assessed quickly at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_Australia/Assessment#Requesting_an_assessment. -- Longhair 06:52, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

My dear B

Sweet dear B, once again, I am deeply touched by your beautiful gesture and your kindness to me. You truly are a shining spirit, and every day, you become more and more special to me. Your gift is much more than I could ask for - I'll display it with gratitude and pride for as long as I call myself a Wikipedian.

Dear B, I'd like to talk to you in private, if that's possible. Is there any chance we can meet in IRC, or MSN? Otherwise, I'll just email you. I hope you're doing fine, hun - have a great hug from this side of the ocean ;) Kisses, Phædriel tell me - 23:58, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry you had to listen to the foolish thoughts of a silly girl while you were stressed and having a tough time, my beloved B. Your words have relieved me, but your absence is saddening; and not only because of our friendship, but because it's Misplaced Pages's loss as a whole to have you away, even for a short while. I'll be waiting for you to return whenever you feel the time is right; please, relax, you've worked so incredibly hard in the last times, that you desperately need a soothing rest. Re: Blocking

Yeah, Sam Blanning saw a post that I didn't, which definitly constituted an indef block, so I'm glad it got put on. I wasn't 100% sure before that that it was a vandal-only account - guess I'm assuming too much good faith! ;) Also, since your talk page says that you are somewhat on Wikibreak, I hope it is going nice and relaxing-like, and that everything works out. -- Natalya 11:30, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Nominator!

I noticed you've been nominating quite a few users for adminship! That's very kind of ya. I agree that we do need more admins as waiting for vandals to be blocked at AIV for 10+ minutes and the articles for speedy deletion building up can get annoying. Regards, Andeh 13:23, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Blnguyen, are you ok to take on a new trainee? I being so close to the last one I would have normally assigned a new one automatically, but I'm not sure how much of a wikibreak you are on (per note at top of page). Actually taking a glance at your contribs suggests not much of one :) Let me add to the others- try not to get too stressed at the backlogs. I'm trying to do my bit over at RFA getting some more admins through the system, so hopefully that will help. I did a load of I5 deletions the other day as well- wow there was a lot! All matters relating to religious disputes involving Users Subhash bose, Haphar, WikiSceptic and Anwar saadat

Note to readers: This is not the source of my wiki-stress, but rather the deletion backlog, which is endlessly long and mindnumbingly boring. This dispute is rather interesting and complex. Blnguyen | rant-line 01:14, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

User:Subhash bose

I've seen Subhash Bose in a number of other articles and while he may seem POV-Pushing at first, he has the potential to become a good Wikipedian. He has a good grasp of things happening in India and doesn't hold the "Get out of this page if you are anti-Hindu" or something POV even though I have seen him get agitated because of some anti-Hindutva edits. Perhaps he just needs encouragement and needs to learnt to conform to Wikipolicy. Nobleeagle (Talk) 07:27, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

You have blocked another user because of WP:NPA. While I strongly disagree with this user's personal attacks and his userpage, a user must be warned before being blocked. Looking at his talkpage, I see he wasn't warned, and the dispute resolution process wasn't followed. The incident should rather be reported first at WP:PAIN. I think a weeklong first block without any prior warning and for a relatively mild case is too harsh. He should first be warned for personal attacks and the first block should be shorter. Please point me to the policy that justifies a weeklong block without prior warning. Especially since in many other cases, users weren't blocked for worse PA's even after warnings . Cheers. --Msiev 11:48, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

You blocked User:Subhash bose for one week. It usually not done so with new users. People have different habits before joining wikipedia. I suggest you to reblock him for a shorter term, unless you have specific reasons for long block. (e.g., a suspected sockpuppet. Simply very strong language is not a valid reason: different cultures have different tolerance to words; it is a matter of education of new users, rather than punishing them. Long blocks are for persisting violators). Thank you, `'mikka (t) 17:26, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

I reviewed the uncivility of user:Subhash bose and I must say that his attacks are very mild in comparison what I've seen in wikipedia. Of course, they are inacceptable, but I think the user must be mentored, rather than blocked. I think he may be given another chance, with heavy warning. I am unblocking him, but will watch his behavior. `'mikka (t) 17:58, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

OK, although I guess I have very harsh standards (relatively), and I intend to enforce them when I come across them. Blnguyen | rant-line 06:05, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

I am afraid you are mistaken: he could edit after unblock. At the same time it is quite possible that he was using still another sockpuppet, which was blocked and his IP was automatically blocke when he tried to edit from blocked account. If this is the case, good for him. I am not aware of any other possibilities. On the other hand, I don'd do much blocking and I see that blocking/unblocking tool changed. In particular, I don't quite understand the meaning of the pending autoblock here: Pusyamitra did edit after the indicated date. `'mikka (t) 05:48, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

User:Rushdie

If User Subhash is not highly right wing POVed.His knowledge of the topics he is editing is perverted and of the type usually called as misinformation - some call it ignorance and an encyclopoedia in such hand s will be disastrous for Misplaced Pages.

Take a look on the edits:

http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=2002_Gujarat_violence&diff=61349527&oldid=61286591

Here he adds: The United Nations International Human Rights Commission has not recognized the Gujarat riots as a human rights issue.

Now user 62. something changed it to read: The United Nations International Human Rights Commission has recognized the Gujarat riots as a human rights issue adding links to UN articles http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=2002_Gujarat_violence&diff=61353881&oldid=61353537

Pat comes Subhash with the change: The United Nations International Human Rights Commission has not yet fully recognized the Gujarat riots as a human rights issue. However, campaigns to recognize it have been made by Islamist organizations like the world muslim congress demanding expediency in the process

And take a look at what he writes to the user 62.

Removed a redundant link. Oh, and to 62.189.60.30, get a login. That way the NSA can know which school you plan to bomb next

Encyclopaedia under such perverted mind - does not add value to wikipedia.Subhash should better avoid these words as they give him away from any login - zeitgeist, adhominem, mein freund.

There has been an explicit use of fowl language towards Muslims - many talk pages like the one below using (Netaji) Login --Note that "Netaji" and "Subahsh Bose" or "Subhash Chandra" are the variants of the name of Indian freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose.

Here he calls the dead in Gujarat as terrorists:

The death toll of Godhra was 3000 terrorist jihadis and their sympathizers. Big difference, see? On, and I know that muslims find loyal allies in left wing liberals (like the organizations above) and self-hating hindus(like you, maybe). Like I said, you may post the link if you wish, but then I have evidence to balance it out with an endless litany of muslim genocides and atrocities in Gujarat itself. The truth about Islam is something you muslim-lovers don't want on wikipedia. Netaji 16:39, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

and the use of "be" in Hindi is similar to provoking one to fight. Rushdie 12:37, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

User:Anwar saadat

I also request you to watch Anwar saadat's edits of my userpage carefully. His adding the tag was ok, but he vandalized my page by removing all other content. I have reverted (keeping the tags), bit he will surely vandalize again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Subhash bose (talkcontribs)

User:WikiSceptic vs User:Subhash bose

Is this worth a ban ? Tintin (talk) 06:33, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Okay. I'll put a word in Admin noticeboard so that the others will also see it Tintin (talk) 07:09, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, he deserves it. Tintin (talk) 07:55, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi: I noticed that on the Administrator's Noticeboard you said that you had noticed that Subhash Bose has not made any pronounced POV edits. I would direct you to 2002 Gujarat violence, which I have stopped editing precisely because of his constant POV-pushing and unpleasantness on the talk page. In particular, , , . He also tends to remove references and hyperlinks that do not agree with whatever POV he wishes to push at the time. Its not such a problem, because I think he basically is capable of understanding what NPOV actually is, he just acts out a lot of anger in the way he edits. Hornplease 08:37, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply, and I hope you're back soon. I just wanted to say that I was not in any way comparing the length of disbarring handed out to Subhash Bose and Wikiskeptic, as I dont know anything about the latter's case. Also, I read the various posts above from other admins criticising the ban on the grounds that Bose is a newbie, and I have to say I disagree strongly. This editor does not need to be gently introduced to protocol, he needs no mentoring; he knows exactly what he is doing and thinks he can get away with it. Two different problems, two different approaches, and yours was correct. Hornplease 11:42, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your support, especially on my stance against religious and personal attacks. I'm not stressed by holding personal attackers to account, it's mainly the deletion backlog. And I don't think anybody needs to be reminded about basic courtesy and decency towards other users. Blnguyen | rant-line 01:14, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

User:Haphar

I have listed the times when the user has insulted me, he continues to make accusations, and I am responding to a comment he has made to me on his talk page. So what is the issue with that ? I also would like to know what action would be taken against User Subhash Bose now that you know he is the puppeteer ? Haphar 08:19, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Does he not continue to exist as User Subhash Bose ? The wind up was less offensive than me being called blind. Also Subhash Bose has got blocked for Shiv Sena revert war, what of his puppetry, does that not get any punishment ?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Haphar (talkcontribs)
I'm waiting for feedback. People are often hesitant when checkuser is not conclusive. Also I don't see how being called blind is worse than religious inflammation and incitement.

192.43.227.18 08:55, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm assuming this is your ip above, so if I tell someone that he is seeing terrorists on the net, that is religious inflammation and incitement ? Sarcasm I buy but religous inflammation and incitement ? The other person can make put "pick up a gun and fight against Christian Missionaries and islamic fundamentalists" on his user page and I get to be the one doing religious infalmmation and incitement ? Haphar 10:16, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Your complaint is not valid as Subhash has already been blocked for a week for his userpage and attacks committed on various talk pages. I have only asked you to stop making sarcastic retorts and inflammatory comments and you have not yet been sanctioned because quite clearly your behaiviour is better. Your complaint of victimization is not valid. Blnguyen | rant-line 01:14, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I have said sarcasm part is valid, ( and if you have to make comparisons it is still a lot less inflammatory than kya karega be). But where is the "religious" in the wind up or incitement?Haphar 01:20, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Possibly not many people know this, but I actually don't know any Indian languages. So you might want to translate. Blnguyen | rant-line 01:44, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
If you want the translation of kya karega be - it means what are you going to do. The word be is not the most respectful way to address a person but is not an abuse either. In case you are looking for some other translation, I will be glad to help. Regarding your comments on my talk page, pls give me some time. I will surely answer -- Lost 04:47, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
"Be" like "saala" or "saale" is an insult if used with someone you do not personally know. Between friends it might not be seen as an insult, but to say it to someone you do not know is an insult. You do not say "be" to people in office, or on the street, unless you are looking to pick up a fight. Haphar 05:09, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes I agree with Haphar on that. It is certainly not WP:Civil -- Lost 05:17, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for recognising my efforts with a Barnstar. I've still got heaps to go. I'll keep continuing to provide as much local knowledge and history that I have on suburbs in southern Sydney. I'm starting to take a few photos, when I'm out and about in the local area, so I'll keep loading those too. J Bar 03:10, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Blnguyen - My, that was some very random vandalism (or... whatever it was...) that you reverted on my talk page! But thanks for watching out for others. See you around! - Tapir Terrific 03:29, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for watching and reverting the vandalism on my page, too --rogerd 03:45, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Well done!

Dont let the backlogs get to you! Misplaced Pages will survive, it has survived its basis in mutually assured "anarchy" so far. Thanks for fixing this and this. They are both on my watchlist and I missed both of them. You are not going crazy yet! Ansell 04:32, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Good work with the Thorpey speculation... Wonder when that one got onto the page. And I thought the page was relatively quiet. Ansell 04:55, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
All three of your recent admin nominations were really good. I dont usually get into RfA but these nominations were really really well researched. You seem to have found the ultimate way out of your personal "backlog hell". Ansell 05:09, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Lebanese Australians

I am not happy with the content on the link - it lists rapists as notable Lebanese australians. they are criminals that tarnish our reputation. I believe I am entitled to remove their names. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.166.110.125 (talkcontribs)

Just a note. This happens to everyone. All notable people of any group are listed there, whether they are good or not. See Vietnamese Australian or Chinese Australian or just List of Australians. Unfortunately, every ethnic group, will have criminals there, as the articles are meant to give information, even if it is unpleasant. Blnguyen | rant-line 06:26, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

A definition of notable:

notable:Worthy of note or notice; remarkable: notable beauty; Characterized by excellence or distinction; eminent: formed a commission of notable citizens. See Synonyms at noted.

A person of distinction or great reputation. often Notable One of a council of prominent persons in pre-Revolutionary France called into assembly to deliberate at times of emergency.

Bilal Skaf and Mohammed Skaf - convicted gang-rapists, are not defined in the above.

I am not arguing if you are biased or not, I am merely stating fact.

The real issue is that all criminals, living in Australia, who have committed their crimes in Australia, are AUSTRALIANS. Categorising by race is an easy way of blaming ethnicity.

I think that they are notable, there are plenty of criminals in Misplaced Pages, like Ivan Milat, Martin Bryant. Your point about blaming ethnicity for crime is not valid I think, because if so then one might also have to to remove Steve Bracks on the reverse point that an ethnic group would thereby "take credit" for a positive member of the community. Basically, either they all stay or all go, and perhaps a better way to discuss would be Australian noticeboard with the whole community. Also I think you should register an account because you are interested in serious debate and many users are reluctant to deal with anonymous editors.Blnguyen | rant-line 06:47, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I've faced this problem before a while back now, over at List of Australians. It seems some people are wanting the criminal aspect of their society removed. As you can see, the content remains. I think you handled this very well. Cheers. -- Longhair 07:29, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Are these images speedies in any way

I can't figure out whether these images Image:2FE.JPG Image:P1013085.JPG Image:P1183144.JPG created by Bevsta (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) are speedy candidates in any way. The user was blocked, not banned, so they don't quite come under that criteria. Ansell 07:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

We can just delete it normally right? He isn't banned so they won't be speedied. Just a tattoo pic right, or is there something I shouldn't see? Blnguyen | rant-line 07:45, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I will put them up for deletion then. There was nothing more than the tattoo and a few bikes, just wondering whether you knew the system any better than I. Ansell 07:50, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Ireland Eurovision

I've replied on my own page, but I'll post here as well:
I'd prefer it slightly if you left the page-creation up to me (I've got the "templates" I use saved as Notepad files on my computer, so it'll probably be a mite faster - also, if you're Wikibreaking and I'm not then I should probably be able to get them done faster), but you're welcome to add extra info to any of the songs - particularly where Ireland's concerned, I really only know the winners well. If you want, I could go directly to Ireland from Estonia when that part gets done. That said, if you want to create the pages, be my guest. I'll whiz through them later and create what isn't there and standardise what is. BigHaz 08:07, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

And thank you for writing such wonderful nominations! By the way, I saw you were stressed and hope you know that while this project is extremely lucky to have such a dedicated and kind contributor like you, we all need some time off to relax as well. My RfA

I saw your rebuttals in there. Thanks, I appreciate it. It looks really close, too. I've more or less anticipated this because I suddenly have a lot of freetime after 18 months of school and thus relatively few edits during that time frame. Oh well, there's always a next time and there's no rush for me to become admin. I don't plan on leaving Misplaced Pages during my lifetime. Damn Wikiholism. ;-) --Chris S. 03:53, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Chemical compounds are not "automatically notable"

There's even an official policy at Misplaced Pages:Notability (numbers)#Related issues. Chemical compounds are "not by definition encyclopedic, unless they have some sort of unusual chemical, economic or industrial significance". The particular compound antimony trichloride, however, is certainly notable, because it was known to the alchemists as "butter of antimony" and it is used as a reagent for detecting vitamin A and other carotenoids. If you had added a fact like that before removing the importance tag, I'd be much happier. In the future, please don't simply remove the importance tag without adding anything to show importance. —Keenan Pepper 04:55, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Pakistan

Hi,

I have warned him. He seems to be the same person who has been attacking me on my user and talk pages. But I don't know what he would get by vandalising Pakistan's page. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 05:30, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

I also warned the vandals who attacked your userpage. I wonder why they weren't warned for this before. BTW, how did you make the noteriety graph? I was wondering how my graph would look like. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 06:39, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
I never thought that the Pakistan article would be protected because of me. That too in the light that I am hardly a contributor to the article. The last time I edited it was 2 weeks back while reverting vandalism of non-Ambuj Saxena vandal! I also saw that you protected a lot of my user pages. Thanks for being a prompt admin. And enjoy your WikiBreak, if at all you are taking one. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 08:38, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure what to do with this

An I.P. address change the redricet page for Cibolo to "Cibolo is the Spanish word for buffalo" I reverted it and sent him a new user warning. After I sent him that message I looked back to Cibolo and found and it said "Cibolo is the Spanish word for buffalo" so went to the edit page and it said in the text #REDIRECT ]. I did revert it again and a few minutes latter I found out it said it again. I looked at the history and it said that the user only edited it once.--Scott3 00:21, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Encouragement, sympathy, etc.

I came here to wonder why you put a backlog tag on the NS category, when it was actually up-to-date - July 6th is 7 days ago, so we can't delete those items till tomorrow. But then I read your message at the top, and it prompted me to re-think what I was going to write. Pardon the vehemence, but - GO BACK TO WRITING ARITCLES! - we need that far more than we need an admin tasks done, and it's far harder to do. I speak as a WikiGnome; someone who has been doing maintence tasks since before I became a janitor, and simply continued - we need article writers far more than we need more maintence people - yes, the backlogs grow gigantic, and continue on as far as the eye can see, but - what we are here to do is write articles - that's what we have all come together for, and what our intention and purpose is. Please don't trade time you could spend writing articles for anything - it's our most precious and rare resource. I hope this is of some help - if I can do anything else, please let me know. JesseW, the juggling janitor 00:52, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, exactly. I have a semi-automatic tool I use to handle the no_source categories, and it checks the the pages have been uploaded more than 7 days ago, no exceptions (and that they haven't been edited in the last day, just as a further check), so I don't usually get to the NS categories until at least one day past the 7 days. A backlog, to me, is 2 or 3 days beyond the 7 day limit. As for PRODs - I'm not that familiar with the non-toolserver process, but I assume people cut it close due to non-automatic checking (which was available on the toolserver, may it soon return). Glad there are other people concerned about the backlogs. JesseW, the juggling janitor 01:15, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi, just wanted to reiterate what JesseW says above. WP is too big for anyone to carry the whole thing on their shoulders, and if anything the backlog of excellent article writing is the one we should all be working on :) Happy wishes, Ziggurat 01:18, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

possible copyvios

Hi Blnguyen, I see you are online now. Wanted to ask a few questions:

  • As a newbie, I had copy pasted text to a few articles. The articles are substantially changed now. But the text obviously remains in the history.
  • Is it possible to remove just the history and let the present article remain?
  • Is it possible to delete just sections of an article?
  • Should I just put the speedy tag on such articles?

Anybody else reading this please feel free to reply -- Lost 02:10, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

User Panairjdde and Centrx

They are purposefully editing my comments and the reporting me to admin for forcing a civil discussion on the page. I request you to consider my case, as I have always been civil, cited my sources, and talked about the issue at hand. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.141.69.21 (talkcontribs) 04:11, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

I removed Panairjdde only after he did so to my decent proposal of adding a controversy sectionand asking for sources to a paragraph, quite pointedly. I am an advocate for civil discussion and there is no vandalism, at least on my part. 05:17, 14 July 2006 (UTC)~

Which is what is being done. Should we proclaim that the provocation that led to the headbutt was a qualified "non racist", noting that there is a FIFA hearing on the 20th to decide that matter, and none of the media have come to that interpretation, or should we say that these comments are ubder FIFA scanner and desist from qualifying them with our judgement. Please see what I am trying to do and not what is being told to you by 'old hands'. I have followed this topic with some interest, and I have no intent to either reduce it to gossip or idle chatter. I have used sources and all my debating skills to bring a pertinent point to the fore.

Reverting Talk page comment

On Talk:Marco Materazzi you responded to a rather tangential comment unrelated to Misplaced Pages article discussion. Because the user who added the comment to which you responded has been vandalizing this page by blanking comments by others and his non-vandalistic comments are still not about improving the article, I have been reverting his edits entirely. I am careful with comments added by others in the interval, though it is a pain, but in removing his comment, your comment would be dangling so I would like to remove it as well. I have not yet reverted, because I am not going to keep reverting this vandalism every minute, so I will wait until he has been blocked or until it has been a little while. —Centrxtalk • 04:13, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Image:Admin.sxc

I saw your spreadsheet about new admins, and it's interesting data, but I think you had a methodological flaw. Instead of raw support-oppose*3, that column should probably be equalized to a percentage system (support/support+oppose). Then people who had less voters aren't penalized, and your top placements shift a bit (although not in most of the lower cases). Also, Deletes/day is probably a better sort key than raw # of deletions, since the latter is prejudiced toward people who have been around longer (this puts Jaranda in first place by the way, instead of you). -- nae'blis (talk) 16:30, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Well I had three sheets on that spreadsheet, with the ranking via three measures, total deletes, delete rate and also delete rate per unit net support. You can have a look using the other two sheets. The reason that I think the percentage system isn't as true as the net support, is that the guy who gets 100-0 is presumably more hardworking or has contributed more than the person who got 25-0; hence I'm using it to work out which admins seem to be overrated or underrated. Just to see who got lots of votes and hasn't been doing much.Blnguyen | rant-line 02:58, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Shem booth and patting their heads

Don't worry about it. This is the second time in a week, though, that my tactics have been misread. I was attempting to be polite to the fellow and to mollify him and pat his head. I hope that I indicated that Random J. Professor doesn't pass the bar and that he would need to do considerably better to get the article to stick. I absolutely agree with A7 on doctoral students. We shall have the poor with us, always, and doctoral students. Basically, although CV's aren't mentioned explicitly in the CSD criteria, they generally are. Anyway, I had no doubts and really wanted to keep the complainer from souring. I hope (twice I've hoped) that we can turn these people away without turning them against us by excessive politeness without encouragement. (And, by the way, the article also fails Geogre's law: "Any article with a miniscule surname is already in trouble.") Geogre 03:35, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Likewise, you'll see that once Hit Bull figured out which article it was, the issue was dropped. I found a couple of self-promoting art gallery refs on google but nothing of real value, and Shem seems to have disappeared as well. So nothing going on here but the usual from a failed vanity author. Thatcher131 04:30, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Removing warnings

Can you please help try and explain why this user isn't allowed to remove warnings? All he is doing is claiming I have a vendetta against him, and so he is not listening to logic. As an administrator, can you tell him that if he continues, he will be blocked, and the fact that you're an admin may convince him that he is wrong. http://en.wikipedia.org/User_talk:24.148.67.72  Killfest2  06:13, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I am coming to you rather than the AIV page because you would understand the situation better than other admins. This user's sole intention is to cause trouble. I gave him his final warning for personal threats, yet he goes and makes a sarcastic remark which insults my work as an RC patroller. I am asking for you to take action in the interests of the community. Although he may not have broken any specific rules with the last comment, he has, however, caused disruption to the community, and it would be in the best interests of the community if you blocked him. I ask for a 24 hour block. Cheers,  Killfest2  06:41, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

What? Two barnstars in a day? Thanks, although I'm pretty sure that all of his personal attacks, mockery, vandalisms and warning removals had more than four distinct instances. Blnguyen | rant-line 06:54, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Maybe you did twice as much today as normal :D Thanks for everything!  Killfest2  06:56, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

party pooping?

Uh, is what valid? Shannon 06:26, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

there is no consensus that a user blanking his own talk page is vandalism. blanking articles and blanking other people's pages is. but if i choose not to have anything on my page that is my choice. 24.148.67.72 06:30, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Duong Trieu Vu

Thank you!!! I hope you are recovered from your Wikistress. :) Kimchi.sg 08:03, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I think you and I should step back, return to writing, and let the other new admins since us take up the slack in deletions. Or else they'll never get the chance to prove themselves. :) Kimchi.sg 08:14, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey

Good to see the giant monkey pic again (and that the giant monkey is back to form)! Happy that the stress is abating. You take care man -- Samir धर्म 08:20, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks...again...

...for banning the "genetics vandal". Keep up the great work!  Killfest2  08:49, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Good to see you're back on deck

Always nice to have another voice around when the ESC entries get listed on AfD. Y'know, it's kind of ironic that the two which have been listed so far were both among the easiest to defend (length dispute for Du Bist, language for Gimme). BigHaz 12:16, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Glad things are better

I'm so glad to hear that things are getting better, Blnguyen, and that you've started working on articles again - you've certainly made a fantastic start into it too! Congratulations on getting all the red links out of Australian Olympic medalists in Swimming, that's rather impressive, and it looks great. The entire editing community is lucky that you're back to your article-writing self. And if you get stressed out again, you know where to go. -- Natalya 12:16, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

That's great, my dear B!

It's great to see you in better mood and returning to your true love, as writing articles is, dear B - again, I'm so sorry I loaded you with my sillyness the other day. You are, by far, one of the greatest assets to our project, not to mention one of my best friends. I am loading my stuff on the car to leave for a couple of days, so your message came just in time to leave with one less trouble in my head. Please, take good care, and I'll drop you a line when I return, k hun? You are great, B! :) Big hugs, Phædriel tell me - 12:18, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to hijak this thread Phaedriel! :D Hi Blnguyen, it's great to hear from you. Thank you very much for your well wishes, it has been a good year on wp indeed. :) I'm really glad to hear things are working out for you again, it's great to get back to the editing, as I hope to do soon. Keep up the great work, and take care. Regards -- Banes 14:17, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

My RFA

Thank you!!

Dear Blnguyen, I cannot thank you enough for all the help and guidance you have given me throughout my Wiki-career and also your magnificent nomination statement. You have always been my role model, first as a terrific editor & now as an outstanding admin. I'm really proud to call such an amazing person like you my friend. If there is anything at all you need help with, you know where to get me. Cheers --Srikeit 14:02, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: Shem Booth

Thanks for the note. Just for the record, I think your actions were entirely proper, given the circumstances. -Hit bull, win steak 15:41, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

My propsed policy

I wasn't really seouris about it. I was saying that Edager118 wrote so many articles in science that he should of already been one.

But I after I got your message I started thinking that it wouldn't be a bad idea. It's a good idea to have it easy for experts(escipally science)to become adims. It would help make wikipedia more scientfically accurate and not just science this could help other subjects become more accuarate. Do you think this a good idea?--Scott3 21:30, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Duong Trieu Vu

Thanks for taking the time to translate this article (and doing a good job at that)! The subject's notability is definitely clear now. I'd have changed my AfD vote to Keep if the decision hadn't already been made, but I'm glad to see the right move was done. Cheers! -- H·G (/works) 23:40, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

The Original Barnstar
I award you this Barnstar for your efforts in resolving the AfD discussion regarding Duong Trieu Vu by translating the article into English. Thanks for making sure that an article belonging on Misplaced Pages stayed on Misplaced Pages! -- H·G (/works) 23:46, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks.

Thanks for blocking User:Googoola for one month. He actually made personal attack on my talk-page. Anyways, Thanks a lot.

No problem; I love helping to endorse and support professional users, because I truly feel that adminship has evolved beyond janitorial duties in the eyes of many people. Thus, I see professional, civil, and knowledgable admins as a gateway into setting a good example. — Deckiller 02:30, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
