Rebecca Hollweg is an English singer-songwriter and children's writer.

Early life

Rebecca Hollweg is the daughter of visual artists who have both internationally exhibited; her father is a painter and sculptor and her mother is a jewellery maker. She was born in west London, and from the age of 9 grew up in rural west Somerset.

Professional career

In October 2001 she released her first album, June Babies, consisting of 12 tracks of melodic pop songs, with influences including James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Alanis Morissette and the Ben Folds Five. It featured string arrangements by Chris Bowden and a guest appearance by Jeb Loy Nichols. The album was produced by Andy Hamill, who is the bass-player with 4 Hero, Carleen Anderson and Shea Seger. It received widespread critical acclaim in the national and music press and went on to get played on Jeremy Vine's BBC Radio 2 show. The title track was used in a BBC programme about women runners.

Rebecca Hollweg did her own headline tour of the UK in 2002, and supported Roger McGuinn of The Byrds on his 2012 UK tour. She has played London venues including Ronnie Scott's and the Southbank Centre, as well as many arts centres and theatres in the UK. Three of her songs are on the soundtrack of a short film The Bitterest Pill, starring Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox. Other songs of hers have been covered live by Claire Martin.

In 2002 she wrote lyrics for Falling, which had been composed by Harvie S and had been recorded by him as an instrumental piece played by saxophonist David Sanborn. Singer Carleen Anderson recorded it, with Rebecca Hollweg's lyrics, on Andy Hamill's 2002 album Bee for Bass. Rebecca Hollweg then recorded it on her 2008 album Orange Roses.

In March 2008 she completed and released the album Orange Roses, whose nine tracks of mellow, melodic songs have a country tinge. Again produced by Andy Hamill, the album features the same musicians and a sleeve design by Jeb Loy Nichols.

Her album Country Girl was released in February 2015.

Broadcasting

Rebecca Hollweg has appeared on Woman's Hour on BBC Radio 4, the Janice Long show on BBC Radio 2, the Nicky Campbell show on Radio 5 Live. She has performed sessions for BBC 6Music, BBC London, Artsworld for Illumina TV, Gyles Brandreth and Wendy Lloyd (both LBC), BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio 4's Loose Ends.
