"Freed from Desire"
Song
B-side"Remix"

"Freed from Desire" is a 1996 international hit single, recorded by Italian artist Gala Rizzatto.

Background

"Freed from Desire" was released in October 1996, as the first single from her second album Come into My Life, becoming an international hit and topping the charts in France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Denmark. The track was released in the United Kingdom in July 1997, where it peaked at number 2 spot; spending 8 weeks in the Top 10, and 14 weeks in the Top 75 in total. After the release of this song as her second single, Gala achieved great recognition throughout Europe.

"Freed from Desire" was also released as a remix by Happymen and Gala in 2003 and 2008; this version was performed by French singer Lorie, during her tour "Le Tour 2Lor" in 2008. The song was re-released as another remix by Klaas in 2011.

Lyrical content

"Freed from Desire" verses contain the motif "My love has got no money, he's got his strong beliefs", "People just want more and more; freedom and love what he's looking for" and "Freed from desire; mind and senses purified", which is Gala's song-character saying that her lover values other things over superficial desires - that way he is truly free.
