Yes, I've changed the name but I also gave two reliable sources. If they appear to be wrong on the matter, then we have no choice but to change it back to Tunceli. It's to decide which of the two names should be used, so that the chosen name may be applied consistently, because at present some articles use one and some the other. When a topic is controversial, a unilateral decision is always bad, and one-by-one changes to pages can take forever to finish. What I certainly want to avoid is a repeat of the problems of a few weeks ago (see Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/3RRArchive252#User:Master Tyranus reported by User:Ahmetyal (Result: prot), User talk:Redrose64#Tunceli/Dersim Dispute, User talk:Master Tyranus#August 2014), which resulted in a lot of cleanup for myself and other admins. The worst of these was a series of WP:CUTPASTE page moves, which would still have been undesirable even if they had been discussed. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:30, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Laçça and Laçya were the names derived from the Turkish spelling of the name Latsia. But according to googleearth, Uluyurt is the newer name for the very same location. Use it if you like; I am not going to be reverted for the second time. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 02:46, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Corruption in Turkey

So.. The article "Corruption in Turkey" say that it's a "popular tradition", the Anti-Corruption article by Bryane Michael is re-labeled "Pro-Corruption" in the link to the source, and it is being said that Turkey ranks #1 in the Corruption Perception Index 2013, when it in fact was ranked 53rd.. and also states that it's "a title it has held for the last 3000 years.".. I had made these changes unilaterally, but was soon reverted by User:Bgwhite, who asked me to seek consensus here. So here I am. Here is a sample of what I propose to do in the articles:

These maps are quite simply incorrect; the borders of the geographical regions of Turkey do not overlap with the borders of the administrative provinces.

This is the correct map of the geographical Aegean Region:

Since the borders do not overlap, there can be no clear-cut list of provinces in the Aegean Region.

Right now, this list is featured in the article:

• Muğla Province

This list is also incorrect.

If we want to list the provinces in the Aegean Region, we will need at least two, but preferable three categorizies:

1. Provinces that are entirely in the Aegean Region.
2. Provinces that are mostly in the Aegean Region.
3. Provinces that are partially in the Aegean Region.

According to this map, which shows both geographical and provincial borders, the correct list should be as follows:

Population

Since the geographical borders are imprecise (they don't overlap with district borders either), there is no convenient way to calculate the population of the geographical Aegean Region, or other geographical regions of Turkey for that matter. Any figure you see on the Internet in this regard is, at best, imprecise guesswork. I propose that we rank geographical regions among themselves and leave it at that.

I see your point. Geographical region and administrative unit are different things. Muğla , Denizli and Afyon have territories out of the Aegean Region. But no harm in considering İzmir, Manisa and Kütahya completely in the Aegean Region. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 19:17, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

If we assume this map is perfectly accurate, Izmir and Manisa seem to have some territory in the Marmara Region, like 1% and 3% respectively. For Kütahya, the figure seems closer to 0.01%. Anyway, that's a relatively minor point. The far more pressing issue is the correction of maps and such. By the way, I forgot to mention: I had added the actual subdivision of the geographical Aegean Region, but it was reverted as well:

A location question

Hello - I've been working on some articles on Ottoman warships, and I'm currently rewriting the article on Ottoman ironclad Mesudiye. I've come across a reference to a Büyükdere that is not mentioned on that dab page, but I don't know where else it might be. I'm guessing it's a suburb of Istanbul, since it's mentioned in the context of the fleet's operations against Bulgarian forces during the First Balkan War and there is a Büyükdere Avenue in the city. Article that needs your attention as a Requested Move: Greek Muslims

There is an article on wikipedia called Greek Muslims. I am not sure if Turkish editors have come across it, but it is about Greek speaking Muslims who have and still identify as Turks(as it is pointed out in the article). Many years back, its neutral title was Greek speaking Muslims and later it was changed to Greek Muslims. I have requested that the former name be restored as the current name implies that those people are Greek. I have written much more about the reasons for change in the Talk page Talk:Greek Muslims#Requested move 24 February 2015 that needs additional input. The RM has just been relisted to allow for it. Moreover, the article is not part of the Turkey Portal. Can something be done also to deal with that issue, as the article deals with communities that identify strongly as Turks and not Greeks. Qutalmish

Qutalmish is not structured as a disambiguation page so I stripped the assessments class=disambig, importance=NA and I added the biography project banner at Talk:Qutalmish.

Probably this should be converted to a biography of the 11th-century person covered in section 1. It is now linked ("Languages" in the left margin) to a biography (not a Stub) of that person, if i glance correctly, at Turkish Misplaced Pages, tr:Kutalmış. The Français, Polski, and Português pages are Stubs that cover the same person, i believe. (FR.wiki and PL.wiki do give death 1064 where TR.wiki gives 1077.)
