Xianxia Novel (Simpilified Chinese: 仙侠小说; Traditional Chinese: 仙俠小說), is a specific type of Novel that was developed from Wuxia but combining with Taoism Culture. It was first introduced in Republic of China Main Land Period but being popular in the 21st century. The main characters mostly called the exercisers who are actually the Taoists or Buddhist.

Xiuzhen

Xiuzhen (Chinese: 修真) which is a term means exercise is from the Taoism. Based on taoism, human can be longer life through a set of exercise arts, mostly called the Art of Breathe. The art mostly can be divided into Base Building (筑基) and other coming arts. The Base Building means to enstrong the body through the Exercise.

The Exercising Method can be the Martial Arts, Buddhism, Taoism depends on the theory from different religions. The Exercise is thought to be disobedience to Heaven which is term first appeared in Wuxia.

History

The History of Xianxia Novel can be traced back to the author Huanzhu Louzhu, who is author of Shushan. Huanzhu Louzhu is thought to be the creator for Wuxia and Xianxia Novels. But until the 21st century, the Xianxia became popular.

One notable author has a penname of Xiaoding (萧鼎). He wrote a novel called Zhuxian (诛仙) about one of 2 kids that escape from the masscre of the village and being adopted by Qingyun Men (Cyan Cloud School) which is call the leading school of Justice for immortals.

In Xianxia Novel, they explained that the immortals actually are the persons who just have longer life not the ethernal life and greater power than the normal persons, and the one that general people who claim as gods actually are just more powerful persons only, in fact, they are still human, and they might be more like human in humanity side.

The Characters in the novel except the general people, most of them have great power and longer life like can live 300 to 500 years and can keep the younger look through the exercise. The power they have depend on the level of Exercising and the weapon they used.

the weapon is various, but mostly sword, while some use stick or sabar, etc. Most novels provide a abnormal pet for the Main Character. The pet might be an ancient creature like dragon, monkey, fox, wolf.

The creature has different exercising method compare to human, most of them will be stronger in body but weaker in soul compare to human who is in the same exercising level, and if their exercising archieve to certain level, they could be as smart as human, they can talk as a human and use tools.
