Local name: Genova, a town and a port in Liguria, Italy.

It has been a Repubblica Marinara (other 3 were Venice, Pisa, and Amalfi) and always a powerful town mainly oriented on the sea. Famous families as Doria had practically the complete control of northern Thyrrenian sea.

Genoa gave birth to many important navigators and sea explorers, among which Columbus.

In July of 2001 it was ruined by desorders originating in opposition to an international summit.
