Shaun King is a writer, activist, and pastor most noted for his involvement in the Black Lives Matter movement, and his writing for the Daily Kos website.

Black Lives Matter

King has written extensively about incidents in the Black Lives Matter movement, gaining prominence during the Shooting of Michael Brown. King wrote an article analyzing the Brown crime scene, and argued that the evidence suggested that officer Darren Wilson's life was not in danger during the shooting.

Fundraising

King has raised money for multiple causes including Haiti. Tamir Rice and other Black Lives Matters incidents. He started HopeMob.com as a crowdfunding site for charity. He also started Twitchange.com as a fundraising site where celebrities auction tweet mentions for charity.

King raised $60,000 for Tamir Rice, but the rice family said they had not heard of King and had not received money from him. The money was seized by the court and placed into a trust for the Rice family.

King raised $540,000 for relief after the Haiti earthquake, earmarked to build the Miriam Center, a home for disabled orphans. Miriam Center indicated they had received $200,000

Racial identity

King identifies as biracial and has written extensively about his experiences as a minority, including an alleged hate crime assault that he says caused him to have multiple spinal surgeries. King recieved a scholarship from Oprah Winfrey to attend Morehouse College which is earmarked fro black men.

The detective who investigated the assault case in 1995 described King's injuries as "minor" and the police report described the incident as a fight involving one student.

In August 2015 rumors started to spread about King's racial makeup, and public records and family photos indicate King may have mislead about his family makeup and may be Caucasian.
