This page is a forum for requesting images from other Wikipedians for Misplaced Pages articles.

Please remove image requests once you have fulfilled them!

Using this page

Use this page to post requests for images that you would like to be used on a Misplaced Pages article. Others can then upload the image(s). For comments on policies, other users, technology, and other miscellaneous concerns that are not directly related to posting images, use the Misplaced Pages:Village Pump.

Copyright Warning

Misplaced Pages can accept only photographs and pictures that are licensed compatibly with the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) or are in the public domain. Fair use images are sometimes also acceptable. A complete guideline of what is acceptable can be found at Misplaced Pages:Image use policy.

  • The simplest way to ensure that is to make them ourselves and explicitly release them under the GFDL by adding {{GFDL}} to the image description page
  • It is also possible to put your own pictures in the public domain by adding '{{PD-release}} to the image page
  • Other copyright options and tags can be found at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags.
  • If you're asking someone else for permission to use their image under the GFDL license, see Request for Permission

Posting a request

Before posting, please do the following steps:

  • First try to find an image on your own. For tips, see the Misplaced Pages:Finding images tutorial
  • Avoid blanket requests, as, for example "need pictures for all people in the Lists of people".
  • Request images only for existing articles, i.e. if there is no article, then please write an article first before requesting.
  • Add the request here if you could not find a picture. Select an appropriate subcategory or add a proper category or subcategory in the alphabetical list. Note that there are separate areas below for photographs and graphics/diagrams. Please copy your request in the edit summary so that recent requests can easily be seen on the page history.
  • Link to the article for which you would like to have the picture added, and describe what kind of picture you need. Signing the request is optional.
  • Add only one picture request per bullet.

You may also wish to add an image request template, {{reqphoto}}, {{reqmap}}, {{reqdiagram}}, or {{reqimageother}} to the article's talk page, which would then list the article in Category:Misplaced Pages requested images.

If you need someone to take this photo for you, maybe one of them can do it in meta:Press_Corps by location. You might also ask an appropriate photographer or graphic artist. Many are willing to take requests.

Fulfilling a request

If you want to contribute an image you have taken yourself, either on film or with a digital camera, please make sure it looks optimal. Consider using graphics software such as the GIMP to enhance saturation, contrast, and sharpness (sample tutorial). You do not need to provide a thumbnail image. Please see Misplaced Pages:Image use policy for more advice on working with images. You can also contribute pictures not taken by you if they are available under a public domain or GFDL license. Other requested images can also be found by viewing Category:Misplaced Pages requested images, a page with Template:Reqimage, or by viewing Image:No_image_yet, and add images to articles that link to these pages.

  1. Ensure that the picture is properly licensed as shown in the "Copyright Warning" above
  2. Upload the Image. If the license so permits, please upload the image to Wikimedia Commons instead so that all the different Wikipedias can use the image.
  3. Add the proper Image copyright tags and a description to the image description page
  4. Link the image to the corresponding article. Larger images should be linked as thumbnails. For a good tutorial see Misplaced Pages:Picture tutorial
  5. After you add the requested image, remove the request from this page, and the template from the talk page.
  6. You can also add your contribution to Misplaced Pages:Fulfilled picture requests or list it at Misplaced Pages:List of images.

I would like to get something like Image:Vulvabigopen2(english).jpg. Other versions of this image have been already deleted due to copyright violation, it's just a question of time, when this one also disappears. The picture was used on many wikis and there is no equivalent image we could use right now. It should depict: clitoral hood, glans clitoris, labia majora, labia minora, opening of the urethra, opening of vagina and remaining hymen. Thank you very much. I understand how difficult it will be to get it. Miraceti 15:14, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

That image is available freely on the commons, checkcommons:Category:Female genitalia for more. -- Chris 73 | Talk

  • Eternals - Needs a group shot of the Eternals main characters (Sersi, Makkari, Ikaris and Thena) and of the Uni-Mind.
  • Nomad (comics) - Preferably a picture of his original uniform, or one of the character0s main series.
  • Shade (comics) - Needs two pictures, one of his classic Golden Age look, and another one from the last Starman series.
  • Shade, the Changing Man - A picture by Steve Ditko and a modern one from the Vertigo series.
  • Starman (comics) - Could use some small pictures (headshots may be okay in a few cases) of some of the people to use the name, notably Ted Knight, Mikaal Tomas, Gavyn, Will Payton and Jack Knight.
  • Squadron Supreme - Needs an image, preferably the Alex Ross cover for the graphic novel that reprinted the mini-series.
    • All of the aboev are going to be copyrighted. You might as well just take something off of the internet, it will all be the same (poor) copyright status. --Fastfission 18:16, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Captain Marvel - Captain Marvel has a new white costume with a hood, shown on Infinite Crisis #7.
    • Captain Marvel Junior - Shown next to Captain Marvel in Infinite Crisis #7. Captain Marvel Junior apparently has a new red costume.

Important note: When taking photographs of computer exteriors where the screen will be shown, if possible please turn the computer on and show a fairly "default" desktop. Thanks.

If anyone knows a Silver Ring Thing kid who would be willing to have a photo taken of their ring, I'd greatly appreciate it. Kevyn 23:04, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)
I Think I've made some headway, but I doubt it is an "officially" sourced ring as is available from some of the referenced sited. I won't pull the request down yet in case someone else can do better, though. Weaponofmassinstruction 20:20, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Cleveland Torso Murderer would probably be ready for featured article status - if it had a picture. A photo of one of the death masks (I think they show two) from the Cleveland Police Museum would be ideal, but it's a bit of a hike for me. I'll do it eventually, but if you're a Cleveland local, would you please beat me to it? Thanks. Catbar (Brian Rock) 22:55, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Runic calendar could really use an image of a Runic Calendar... maybe someone in scandanavia could get a photo at a museum?
  • Neolithic Revolution Good article content-wise, would be solid all-round with a picture or two, although it might be a difficult subject to portray pictorially

I added a drawing representing the Neolithic Revolution. Let me know if you find this satisfactory. --Polylerus 18:44, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

  • A pic of one of those "NO SMOKING BY ORDER OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL" signs you see in gas stations. 68.39.174.91 7 July 2005 03:17 (UTC)
For what article??--Zxcvbnm 13:16, 22 July 2005 (UTC)
Fire Marshal, ofcourse ;D. Seriously though, those things account for probably 98% of the exposure the office gets to the public, and is likely the best possible pic we could get for that article (Except maybe for a badge of office). Thanx 69.142.2.68 18:01, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
I don't know, the occupancy limit signs in theaters make up a significant fraction of that exposure too. Sparr 22:01, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Image of the Mannlicher-Schönauer (Mannlicher-Schoenauer) military version.
  • Pictures of the devastating effects of wars. I have not found pictures of the destruction of Coventry after World War II bombings.

Have requested some good images of the centre of Coventry after the raid. Will upload 'em as they come FeZzYwEzZy

As soon as this issue is resolved at commons I can upload some images of shelled out towns from the early stages of WWI. Scoo 20:31, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
  • I have added Category:Gun articles needing image as a category and started tagging appropriate articles (starting in Submachineguns). It is my hope to set up a visit later this year by someone to the British Royal Armories museum (Ex-Enfield Pattern Room collection) or an equivalent location, armed with the list as it were. There are far too many individual articles to conveniently list here... Georgewilliamherbert 09:58, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
  • I am trying to convert US Military rank insignia to SVG, especially enlisted insignia (because of the ease of mass-production). I have created SVGs of all but three US Army insignia. The Command Sergeant Major, Sergeant Major of the Army and Specialist insignia consist of shapes which I cannot easily reproduce as SVGs. If someone has either SVGs of those elements of the insignia (the eagle, etc.), could upload a raster source of sufficient resolution or could direct me toward the same, I'd appreciate it. --Carl 03:43, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

A fuller set of requests for photographs of places is sorted by location under Category:Misplaced Pages requested photographs. Articles can be placed in these subcategories by using {{reqphotoin}} and {{reqphotoin2}} in their talk pages. • Tesla coil - we have nice diagrams and an image, but it's a small model and (no offense to the author) it looks unproffesional. Didn't the government do some sort of experiments that would be in the PD?--HereToHelp (talk) 00:39, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

25143 Itokawa has no image. Something was there previously, but then deleted. Now that the spacecraft has come and gone, its many images (and data) could significantly improve the article. Their image use policy is here: I don't see any problems, but the previous images were deleted. This really is important, as only a handful of small bodies have ever been imaged in detail, and missing one of them doesn't make the article informative. (It is, after all, about the asteroid.)--Planetary 01:36, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately the license is only free for noncommercial use, which is not enough for Misplaced Pages. Unless you can persuade the JAXA to release an image under the GFDL, I think the NASA radar image is the best we can do. We can always still link to the JAXA images, of course. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 19:17, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
What about fair use? Could that be a possibility or not? --Planetary 22:41, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Given the free availability of the NASA image, I would assume not. -- Sakurambo 桜ん坊 11:16, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
That image isn't even being used on the Itokawa page. It's an "orphan". Oh, and 1 question. Why do other websites use the Itokawa images? I don't see any permission granted on these sites They just put "Credit: ISAS/JAXA", or nothing at all, and get away with it! I don't understand! --Planetary 22:50, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
First you should read the image use guidelines at the www.jaxa.jp website, which you mentioned yourself at the beginning of this thread. Then familiarize yourself with Misplaced Pages's image use policy and fair use guidelines. As Ilmari Karonen said, the license is only free for noncommercial use. This is not enough for Misplaced Pages. -- Sakurambo 桜ん坊 10:38, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, okay. No JAXA images, then. Except those found on NASA's website. I see there are a few illustrations of JAXA's spacecraft, which are to be found there. --Planetary 23:59, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your work! I think the picture is good enough. Good color scheme. Just some very minor nitpicking (if you make similar pictures in the future): In the first case, it might not be clear that there's no intersection. Also, in the second case, the point could be emphasized. But, as I said, that is just nitpicking. The idea should be clear from the pictures. Haseldon 15:53, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Riemann sphere needs a drawing for the version being fermented in the discussion page. It should show a sphere, the top tangent plane (or both if it would be better), and a projection or two from the south pole through the sphere onto the top plane. It should clearly be shown that the point z = a + i b {\displaystyle z=a+ib} on the plane corresponds to the point on the sphere that lies on the same line. Also, the top plane should be labelled as the z {\displaystyle z} plane. -- Domenic Denicola 01:11, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
