Welcome!
This is a demonstration of the new design spearheaded by WikiProject X. It is created as a test case for an upcoming Wikimedia DC event so that we can test the design before a live audience. If this project succeeds as a WikiProject, then terrific! If not, I'll probably archive it in my user space. A couple of notes:
- Please ask before changing around the design elements. This particular layout was very deliberately designed. Of course, it is a work in progress, and your feedback is much appreciated.
- For now, this WikiProject should not be made a part of the article assessment system, which means: (a) please do not create a WikiProject banner and (b) please do not create a dedicated WikiProject category. WikiProject X is developing an alternative to the WikiProject banner, and we would like to limit the amount of "infrastructure" created for this WikiProject.
Enjoy this new WikiProject, and let us know what you think! Harej (talk) 19:37, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
Layout
@Harej: I really like the icons for the site subsections! Is it intentional to squish all the content into one skinny column between the image on the left and the box on the right, or is that just a formatting error? - PKM (talk) 21:39, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
- Isarra should know more about this, but I believe the intent is to create a "right rail" for extra content on the right side of the page (and keeping it "outdented" relative to the rest of the content makes it stand out better). Harej (talk) 21:44, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, okay. Looks a bit funky in portrait mode on the iPad. - PKM (talk) 03:23, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, that is a known issue. Unfortunately Misplaced Pages doesn't make it easy for people to use sophisticated CSS on pages, such as the kind that let you modify the appearance according to criteria such as screen size. I'm looking into making the layout adaptable for mobile interfaces. Harej (talk) 04:32, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Also, there's a "link dump" from someone on the Edit-a-thon event talk page. Alisonjo2786 (talk) 23:39, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
Expansion ideas
Some ideas for slight expansion of this new project page below. Thanks for creating the new project! North America 05:03, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- Add an Article alerts section
- Add a New articles section that lists newly-created articles in this topic area. For an example, see WikiProject Food and drink – New articles, which automatically generates a list of new articles using AlexNewArtBot.
- Add a category tree for Category:Women in technology (example below). This provides readers and editors with a succinct overview of relevant topics.
- Women in technology Women in computing Women in electronic music Women in engineering Hello Girls Women Internet pioneers Women in radio Women technology writers Women in the video game industry Women chief technology officers
Discussion notice
There is a discussion at meta, Grants:IdeaLab/Community discussion on harassment reporting, that may be of interest to members of the group. Lightbreather (talk) 14:27, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Centralise discussion
It might be worthwhile clarifying whether discussion of WP:WIT should be on this talk page, or should be on the WT:WPX talk page (e.g. like this)? T.Shafee(Evo﹠Evo) 09:26, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
- T.Shafee(Evo﹠Evo): I've requested that design feedback go on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject X, though anything specific to this project and not just the overall template can go on this talk page. In any case I'm watching both pages. Harej (talk) 22:11, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
Wiki Loves Pride
You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride!
- What? Wiki Loves Pride, a campaign to document and photograph LGBT culture and history, including pride events
- When? June 2015
- How can you help?
- 1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
- 2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Misplaced Pages articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
- 3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)
Or, view or update the current list of Tasks. This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. Visit the group's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Misplaced Pages, plain and simple, and all are welcome!
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.
Thanks, and happy editing!

Category overlaps
Regarding the below note on the WikiProject page:
- "Are there women in Category:Women computer scientists who aren't in Category:American computer programmers? (obviously not all of these individuals belong in both, but maybe some are missing -- just an idea to check)"
Are there any bots that would check the category trees of articles that aren't in both groups, for instance, in a manner like the below pseudo-code:
- Category:Women computer scientists = TRUE
- AND Category:American computer programmers = FALSE
- AND (Category IN Category:Americans = TRUE OR Persondata PLACE OF BIRTH contains "United States")
More generally, it may also be worth seeing which articles in Category:Women computer scientists aren't in a subcategory of Category:Computer programmers by nationality.
This could then be expanded as well to help ensure that women articles are in their respective non-gendered categories.
As a side note, I'm not sure that all computer scientists are necessarily computer programmers (I don't know how much of a pre-requisite it is to be a programmer as well), but I certainly agree that it may be an idea to check. — Sasuke Sarutobi (talk) 11:47, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Grants:IEG/Wikipedia likes Galactic Exploration for Posterity 2015
Dear Fellow Wikipedians,
I JethroBT (WMF) suggested that I consult with fellow Wikipedians to get feedback and help to improve my idea about "As an unparalleled way to raise awareness of the Wikimedia projects, I propose to create a tremendous media opportunity presented by launching Misplaced Pages via space travel."
Please see the idea at meta
Thank you for your time and attention in this matter. I appreciate it.
My best regards, Geraldshields11 (talk) 22:07, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
WikiProject X up for renewal
First of all, I would like to express my appreciation for WikiProject Women in Technology for testing the new WikiProject interface and tools. Thank you.
WikiProject X is up for renewal at the Wikimedia Foundation. We would like to continue working to make our existing tools better: to make them easier to use, and to integrate them with other Wikimedia projects, including Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata. Please review our renewal proposal and leave feedback.
As always, if you have any questions or feedback, please let me know on this talk page or the WikiProject X talk page.
Thank you again, Harej (talk) 19:11, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
