The basic question, still open as of, is whether there is a cycle map:

${\displaystyle A^{*}(X)\to \operatorname {H} ^{*}(X,\mathbb {Z} ).}$

(If X is smooth, such a map exists since ${\displaystyle A^{*}(X)}$ is the usual Chow ring of X.)
