{{#coordinates:}}: invalid latitude. The city is located around 500 km South of Ha Noi. It's endowned with beautiful beach of Nhat Le and is home to the World Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park nearby. Dong Hoi city is accessible by road (National Highway 1A, Truong Son Highway) by railway: the Ha Noi - Ho Chi Minh City Railway passes or by air: Dong Hoi Airport. The city provide tourists with several 1 to 3-star hotels, especially the 4-star resort of Sun Spa.

During Vietnam War, this city was heavily devasted by the bombardments by the US B-52 due to its location near to 17 Parallel.
