Andy Lehrer

Could you unprotect Andy Lehrer? The subject of the deleted article is now dead and I'd like to attempt a netural, sourced article. Alexander's Hood (talk) 07:32, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Could you please list some reliable sources which provide significant coverage of the subject? -- King of 07:16, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
I was thinking of simply doing an English version of the in French wikipedia and avoiding any drama. Alexander's Hood (talk) 19:05, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
Just because a page exists on another Misplaced Pages does not mean that they are sufficiently notable. -- King of 07:54, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
The page appears to have been deleted because of personal enmity between the subject, who was apparently also a Misplaced Pages editor and somewhat disagreeable, and others. He's now dead and without that personal dimension causing interference I don't see a reason for continued page protection several years on. Alexander's Hood (talk) 17:14, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
If it is recreated, it will just be deleted again unless there is evidence of his notability. -- King of 17:41, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
Normally, if a page is deleted it is without prejudice to a new version being created. This page was deleted and salted on the strength of two comments out of a total of three which doesn't seem to be enough of a justification. Alexander's Hood (talk) 20:41, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
You would need those sources anyways to create the article. So can you not list them here? -- King of 20:48, 16 January 2016 (UTC)

Tech News: 2016-02

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.

Recent changes

Problems

  • Some pages do not turn in up in categories where they should be. This is because link tables are sometimes not populated.

Changes this week

  • The Nuke extension will work with Flow. This will make it easier to handle spam in Flow.
  • New file uploads will now be patrollable.
  • Internet Explorer 8 will no longer have JavaScript support. You will still be able to browse and edit Misplaced Pages if you use Internet Explorer 8, but will not be able to use some features. This can be solved by upgrading to a newer version or switching to a different browser.

Meetings

  • You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 12 January at 20:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

  • URLs in the recent changes IRC feed will no longer be rewritten to unencrypted HTTP. This could be a breaking change for bots dependent on the IRC feed.
  • The edit tabs for the wikitext editor and the visual editor will be combined to one single edit tab. You will be able to choose which one you prefer. If you are not logged in, your choice will be saved as a cookie in your browser. You can test the single edit tab.
  • There is a beta feature that adds links to the subject on other Wikimedia projects. This works much like the links to for example Misplaced Pages articles in other languages. It will go out of beta testing and be enabled for everyone in January. Wikis that don't want this can decide to have it disabled.
  • The difference between "alerts" and "messages" notifications is unclear to some. The developers want feedback at the Phabricator task or on MediaWiki.org so they can make this better. You can give feedback in your language if you can't write in English.

Tech News: 2016-03

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.

Recent changes

  • You will be able to find or mark bugs and suggestions in Phabricator that are specific for your language or wiki.
  • Notifications have been upgraded with more detailed and easier-to-access information. See the documentation. Cross-wiki notifications will be available soon on the two test wikis.

Changes this week

  • The visual editor uses the TemplateData extension to make editing templates easier. You will now get a warning when you edit a TemplateData form and leave it without saving.
  • MediaWiki will get a new authentication and authorization system called AuthManager. This is planned to happen in a month or two. Some bots will need to change how they log in. Two new and more stable authentication methods will be available now: Owner-only OAuth credentials and bot passwords. You can read more about the change.
  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 19 January. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from 20 January. It will be on all Wikipedias from 21 January (calendar).

Meetings

  • You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 19 January at 20:00 (UTC). See how to join.
  • You can join the next meeting with the Architecture committee. The topic this week is governance model. The meeting will be on 20 January at 22:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Tech News: 2016-04

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.

Recent changes

  • You can now follow when pages are added or removed from a category on German Misplaced Pages. The plan is to add it to Wikimedia Commons and other Wikipedias this week.
  • Administrators can hide individual entries of a page with RevisionDelete. There is now a button to choose "all", "none" or "inverse" in Special:Log. The article history will get the same buttons soon. Wikis that have done this locally with JavaScript will be able to remove that code.

Changes this week

  • You will be able to see the references when you preview a section you are editing. This will happen even if there is no <references /> tag in that section.
  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 26 January. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from 27 January. It will be on all wikis from 28 January (calendar).

Meetings

  • You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 26 January at 20:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

  • There is now an extension called ArticlePlaceholder. It can automatically generate content on Misplaced Pages with data from Wikidata if there is no Misplaced Pages article. It will have a tag to remind the reader it is not an article and ask the reader to create one. The developer is now looking for smaller Wikipedias that want to try the extension.
  • The OTRS system will be upgraded. The plan is to do this on 3 February at 08:00 (UTC). It will probably take 6 to 8 hours. OTRS will be down during the upgrade.
  • Users will soon be automatically congratulated when they reach some edit count milestones.

Have a look at this again please

I am asking you because this is important - there are WP:BLP and WP:MINOR issues at stake.

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Ayrton Cable

In short then there are 3.5 !votes for deletion and 0 to keep it. That is consensus to delete, not "no consensus".

Please review this yourself or I will otherwise have to do it properly. Again, this matters becuase of WP:BLP and WP:MINOR. We don't need another Jacob Barnett. Thank you for you considerations.

And finally, if it is "no consensus", please remember that "no consensus" defaults to delete when minors are involved. This kid needs appropriate child protection (likely by stopping him writing his own autobiography). Claudebone (talk) 05:36, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

This really bothers me as an inappropriate shocking close. He's 13 for goodness sake. Please reconsider or this is likely to end at DRV. MINOR is not the right link (that is minor edits) but I found https://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Minors_and_persons_judged_incompetent nLegacypac (talk) 05:40, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Could you point to where it says that "no consensus" should default to "delete" when minors are involved? The only case I am aware of this is when the subject requests deletion. As for your vote count, the fact that Jim1138 cited WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS in a portion of his argument does not invalidate the rest of it. And how exactly is Legacypac's !vote based on policy? He just calls it not notable and proceeds to mock the creator. -- King of 06:25, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Whether or not policy currently exists, I suggest this case (and others) demonstrates the need for such a policy for child protection reasons. Jim1138's argument was entirely WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS. I suggest that it was obvious that Legacypac's !vote was based on WP:GNG, but he presumably thought that was so obvious that he really didn't need to have stated it as such. There is a subtlety in understanding nuances of AFD debates that you seem to be missing. Claudebone (talk) 06:44, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
@Claudeborne: What evidence do you have that 888AlexanderAranda888 and Smphillips912 are socks? Smphillips912 made fairly minor edits. How do you connect the two? You are making accusation without evidence here. Perhaps you should file an wp:SPI. Maybe read WP:Assume good faith? You were warned here about your sock accusation here. After his note, you added further formatting which Uncle Milty removed here.
You think Aryton Cable/888AlexanderAranda888 wrote the article? Read the article, in an early state before being edited by others here. If indeed it is Aryton Cable, he has an amazing grasp of the English language and editing Misplaced Pages for a 13 year-old.
Interesting how a photo added by Cable/888 was deleted. Why wasn't Cable able to get a photo released? Perhaps Cable and 888 not the same individuals?
Aryton Cable is clearly a public figure. He fits with Misplaced Pages:Who is a low-profile individual as a high-profile individual. Why should Cable be "protected"?
What about Jacob Barnett that we "don't need another" of? Nothing horrible seems to have happened to Barnett per his article. Sounds like Barnett is doing well for himself. Just want Cable to stay home and be a "normal" kid?
As for OTHERCRAPEXISTS, I said that there are many other articles on minors on Misplaced Pages. Your use of OCE would imply that you believe all the many articles on minors are CRAP and should be deleted? How many of these have you added AfDs to? Out of curiosity, why are you focused on Ayrton Cable?
BTW, you did not notify the article creator and (possibly) major contributor as recommended (but not required) for courtesy per WP:AfD#After nominating: Notify interested projects and editors 888AlexanderAranda888 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) and Smphillips912 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log).
A bit of wp:forumshopping here? First two rather sneaky attempts to "delete" via redirect: 1 2, then an AfD, now this? It appears that King of Heart disagrees with your assessment. Off to the next forum?
"Subtlety in understanding nuances of AFD debates"? You don't like it that you didn't "win"? Jim1138 (talk) 09:23, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
It would help if we didn't have absurd and angry ranty off-topic contributions from those so lacking in basic understanding of WP:HOWWPWORKS that they tried to use WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS in a deletion !vote. Let's just say if an SPA smells like a sock it usually is. Claudebone (talk) 09:47, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
@Claudebone: A major issue here is that you have repeatedly accused others of socking without addressing questions made to you about your evidence for this. So, please answer. Jim1138 (talk) 10:33, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Oh For fuck sake stop being such a prig. It's quite clear that we have 2 SPAs, with non-overlapping histories, who are obsessed with 1 13 year old kid. I'd put my fucking mortgage on them both being the same person and both being Master Cable. You're not being helpful here to Misplaced Pages, which is deeply concerning.
