Gwyneth Paltrow (born September 28, 1972) is an American actress. Though she is the daughter of producer Bruce Paltrow and actress Blythe Danner, she studied Art History before committing herself to acting.

Born in Los Angeles, Her debut film was Shout (1991) and she played in Steven Spielberg's Hook (1991) before starring in Se7en (1995) and dating her co-star Brad Pitt. Their relationship was much publicized, just like their break-up two years later. Her performance in Emma (1996) received its share of praise.

She was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress two years later for her performance in Shakespeare in Love (1998). Much media attention was drawn to her at this event as a consequence of her bursting into tears during her acceptance speech.
