The American Dollar is an American music project, formed in 2005 in Queens, New York. The band consists of drummer/keyboardist John Emanuele and guitarist/keyboardist/producer Richard Cupolo. They have released five studio albums, three deductive ambient remix albums and two EP’s, one a split with Arms and Sleepers and the other a live album. Their debut self-titled effort was released in 2006. A Memory Stream, the band's third full-length, was issued in 2008. Their fourth album, entitled Atlas, was released by Yesh Music on January 1, 2010. The band has toured America and Canada, and played shows in Russia, with plans to tour a wider swath of the world in 2012. The American Dollar's fifth full length album, Awake In The City, was released on March 24, 2012. On December 6th, 2014, the duo announced plans to begin recording a new album, and subsequently released "Across the Oceans" on December 11th, 2015.

The band has achieved considerable success in mainstream culture both within the United States and internationally while working in traditionally eclectic genres. Their music has been a pivotal addition to television shows that run the gamut from CSI: Miami to MLB Network specials, and also film trailers such as Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and Up In The Air. Partially due to their rising popularity, the band has been recognized by prominent music industry figures such as The Recording Academy and Tom Windish, describing what they do as “brilliant” and “…almost mathematical, or classical-based. It’s not just simple chord progressions on a guitar.”

Their latest full length effort, Across the Oceans, was promoted directly to its fanbase, which resulted in an organic buzz that culminated in the month-long February 2016 feature of the album by the widely loved radio program Echoes. The band plans to continue recording new material and play selective shows.
