Kalibo is the capital town of Aklan and is the venue of the Ati-atihan festival.

The term Kalibo was derived from the local dialect "sangka libo", that translates to "one thousand", the number of inhabitants when the Datus from Borneo came.

It is accessible from Manila by plane through the Kalibo Airport, about ten minutes away from the main plaza, or by ship through the Dumaguit and/or New Washington Ports on the northern tip of Aklan. Public transportation around town is by tricycle.

Nearest cities would be Roxas City, in Capiz, and Iloilo City, Iloilo. Both accessible by bus and minivans.

Kalibo is also the gateway to Boracay island, which is just 45 minutes away by land transport from the nearest port, Caticlan.
