Nomination for deletion of Template:Location map Kingdom of Hungary

From my talk page back in september.

Bugger bugger bugger, I saw a map in the transport museum in budapest we went the other week and it had the lat and long but in pretty much a mercator projection. My missus was more interested with the toy trains so I didn't get a chance to take the measures off it. If it's wrong (as it is) it should be deleted but I am still trying to get the measures right. The thing is it's specifically Kingdom of Hungary, but the more atlases (atli? :) I look at the more different lats and longs I get. And anything one does on Hungarian articles is rather contentious, so it is probably really better deleted. Because people whose great grandfathers were part of the Kingdom of Hungary will say no that's Croatia or Slovakia or Slovenia or Yugoslavia or Jugoslavia or The People's Republic of East Kebab. Since Hungarian politics is very contentious and goes on racist grounds in far more than would be allowed in where I come from, this is better off deleted. (Hint: say Treaty of Trianon to a Hungarian and await results.) Si Trew (talk) 09:36, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Hungary ethic groups.jpg
I never did get round to this. I took the coords off of file at right, which is very high quality but seems to have an odd idea of where 0 longitude is (it suggests it is east of Paris, but that didn't seem to work). As you suggested, I tried to take well-known points at the edges of the map: Fiume, for example, at south-west. I took very good readings after printing out this map at A0 size and using ruler and compass, my trig is quite good, but I could never get it to fit. Si Trew (talk) 06:02, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
.Oh, Template:Location_map_Kingdom_of_Hungary/test might help you. You see, Fiume's in the right place but Budapest is a bit too far left and the rest are well out. Si Trew (talk) 06:09, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Infobox NFL coach merge/wrapper

Hey, Frietjes. Was this sandbox ready for review, or were you still chewing on it? Please let me know. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 19:42, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Dirtlawyer1, I believe that was a proof-of-concept to show that one format could be converted to another format. I'm not sure which format is preferred at the moment. Frietjes (talk) 14:52, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
parameters marked as "missing" in the sandbox are parameters which are in the coach infobox, but do not exist in the player/biography infobox. the extra stats links are probably not needed, but additional fields to differentiate between a playing career and a coaching career seem useful. Frietjes (talk) 15:01, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Frietjes, nice to have you back, and I hope you enjoyed your time away. Thanks for your previous work on the concept. As far as the NFL and college football players are concerned, the existing plainlist coding for team tenures and honors is strongly preferred, not least because it is already in use on 15,000+ NFL and CFB player articles. There is also the matter of consistent formatting with the teams and honors being followed by the tenures/years in parentheticals -- the format was a conscious choice of the template designers and makes a great deal more semantic sense than the revers employed elsewhere. So, yes, I think we want to preserve that choice as we replace the last 300 coach infoboxes. Please let me know what you can do. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:19, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
I just saw your added comment above after being edit-conflicted. I will take a look at the "missing" parameters noted above, and get back to you. I agree we do not need to add any more stats fields to the merged box; stats are one of the most problematic and misused parameters out there. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:19, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Needs help

I like charts, mostly pie but also bar, and I really like shades of grey best - for normal purposes physically printing is just black‑and‑white (and shades of grey). But this really allow only ten shades of grey. I would like just a few options to make up to 15-ish. I think to extend to texture would do the trick. And I see that these days CSS background‑image can be specified. These are lots of different things can be made, but for use here I would just what two textures, and just left top to right bottom or the other way, and narrow chevron or wider.

thick
left right
thin
It be easiest to make just one colour :

So Frietjes, I won't if you could help. I want to enhance module:chart (bar and pie). The module have been written by the user-with-a-Hebrew-name, (name is קיפודנחש), s/he doesn't seem to be online very often. It seems easy enough, but the module code is a closed book as far as I can see. Do you be able to help?

Just all one or two colours, with direction 'left' or 'right', and 'thin' or 'thick'. I know this OK with IE, I don't know any browser.

Frietjes (talk) I'll be going on holiday for three weeks, so I won't look into it until new year. I don't think anything difficult, just background‑image:repeating-linear-gradient by CSS. I just need it into module:Chart – Unbuttered parsnip (talk) mytime= Wed 05:09, wikitime= 21:09, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

fixed Frietjes (talk) 13:53, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Me and Bgwhite created list of pages that have citation templates with |id= that contains an ISBN number while the the template contains a |isbn= too. There are 2,000 pages. Would you be interested to check it? It's in User:Magioladitis/sandbox. In most cases two types of the same isbn. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:52, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Bgwhite isn't interested in communicating with me and generally doesn't understand why making me go through a lengthy DRV to overturn a G6 is a problem. I am still waiting for an apology that I will probably never get. life is too short to waste it working with people who don't appreciate what I am doing. Frietjes (talk) 15:00, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

I am working with both of you and I really enjoy it. I am pretty sure that there is some misunderstanding and it will resolve soon. If there is any way I can help I would like to do it. Btw, It was my idea to contact you about this list and I did not have any prior discussion about it with Bgwhite. -- Magioladitis (talk) 16:29, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

good luck. Frietjes (talk) 16:31, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
I never said I didn't want to talk to you. I said the discussion was over. I've contacted you a couple times on your talk page since then with questions that you never answered. I appreciate what you are doing. I've said thank you multiple times. I've told Magioladitis that you are a computer, because of how fast and relentless you are at fixing errors. I've called you the Borg, because resistance is futile for any error. I understood your position on the template, which is why I said I would restore it after the user's block was over on dewiki. I would have restored it before the DRV would have gotten over. As I told you repeatedly, it was not personal, don't take it personally and it was about the block evader. BTW, The user has been blocked multiple times since then, which included articles that he worked on enwiki with the template. If you want to punish me by never answering my questions again, that is your prerogative. If you think I'm solely at fault, that is your prerogative. If you want to think I was out to get you and not the block evader, that is your prerogative. But, don't take it out on Magioladitis. Refusing to help him to punish me is not cool. Don't take it out on the errors. Not wanting to help on Magioladitis' error fixes serves no purpose. I cleaned out over 20 deprecated category lists and you refused my questions and did not want to help fix the infoboxes. I asked Plastikspork about the infoboxes. He said he was mostly inactive and to ask you. So, infoboxes stand uncorrected and I stopped fixing those categories. Bgwhite (talk) 22:09, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
Bgwhite, I would like evidence for "I've contacted you a couple times on your talk page since then with questions that you never answered." searching the history of my talk page for contributions from you I find which is where you informed me that you had deleted a template that I "re-created it for a blocked user on dewiki to stage the stuff that he was blocked there for" (which is false), and the next message from you is here which I immediately answered here. after that there is this thread, so where are the other times you contacted me on my talk page since then? were they deleted from the talk page history? let's review the sequence of events (1) you deleted a template that I created as WP:CSD#G6. from the linked page, G6 is for uncontroversial maintenance. (2) I asked you to undelete the template, which by definition means that it is not "uncontroversial". (3) you told me that I had to wait for XaviYuahanda (talk · contribs) to be unblocked on the German Misplaced Pages before you would undelete it. (4) I told you that I didn't create it for XaviYuahanda (talk · contribs) (5) you refused to believe this because XaviYuahanda (talk · contribs) told you otherwise. (6) at that point we had reached an impasse. you refused to take my word over XaviYuahanda. the confounding part about all of this is that even if I did create it for XaviYuahanda, which I didn't, G6 still doesn't apply. you decided to have all the power in this transaction. you decided that I must wait for XaviYuahanda to be unblocked to have a template I created undeleted. (7) so, I decided to get a second opinion by going through DRV, and finally I was able to have the template I created undeleted. now that the template is undeleted we can see how useful it is when left "unsubstituted". it throws an error message telling the user to substitute it, returning no actual content. you say "I understood your position on the template", but clearly you didn't. my position was that I was using it and that it should be immediately undeleted, since G6 didn't apply. Frietjes (talk) 14:45, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
We can go over this all you want. Time after time I've said this is because of the blocked user, but you won't believe me and I'm scum. I didn't want to recreate the template because that is what they wanted. He even thanked you when it was restored. I compromised and said I would recreate the template after the person's block was over. You refused and went to DRV. A template that hasn't been there for years suddenly needed to be recreated and not wait a week. The template would have been restored before the DRV procedure was over, but you still went to DRV. He transferred articles created here and was blocked again. On this page, you said, "...have you extended my punishment?" about not restoring the template. I was never punishing you. I didn't extended anything because you refused my offer and went to DRV. I said on my talk page, "I never said and I don't think you are collaborating with a blocked user. You didn't know they were blocked. I DID NOT REFUSE. I said after the 15th. You still haven't said why this can't wait 6 days and you MUST have it now." I don't know how many times I can say this, but this had nothing to do with you. I wasn't punishing you. I said before in November and again now, it has nothing to do with you. You think I'm lying, only did this to go after you and nothing I can say or do will change your mind.
I asked questions here and brought it up 5 times here.
No matter how many times I say I wasn't after you, you think I'm lying. No matter how many times I say how wonderful you are for what you are doing around here, you won't listen. There is nothing I can say or do because I'm scum, to be hated and to be punished. Fine, but this is still not a reason to turn your back on Magioladitis and punish him. It's still not a reason to fix things because I had a hand in it. Nothing I say or do will change your mind, but don't extend that to other people and bugs. As you think I'm a pile of shit, wanted "... to have all the power in this transaction and won't deal with me ever again, I won't respond here anymore and let you go onto more important things. I won't bug you ever again. You are always welcome on my talk page or to ask me things. Bgwhite (talk) 07:38, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Book list

Can you please add |isbn_note= in Template:Book list the same way it works for {{Infobox book}}? -- Magioladitis (talk) 13:52, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Magioladitis, added. Frietjes (talk) 19:20, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

There is a big bunch of pages having extra things in the isbn parameter... -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:31, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Magioladitis, how many of these are in citation templates? Should we propose a new parameter for {{Cite book}}, etc? Probably any new parm for cite templates would have to be |isbn-note= to fit in with the parameter naming convention for all citation templates. --NSH002 (talk) 10:23, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
I think for {{Cite book}} people can use |id= for extra info. Moreover, having multiple isbns in a ciation would be inappropriate I think. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:32, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
|id= is intended for an identifier that isn't among any of the numerous possibilities already listed under "Identifiers" in the documentation. Rather, I had in mind notes similar to "(hardback)", etc. I certainly wasn't thinking of multiple isbns (which would be wrong, since a citation should always be to a specific book). NSH002 (talk) 11:50, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
NSH002 you are right. Thanks for clarifying. I also forgot the cases that hardback/softcover should be clarified. I agree that in general we need something like isbn-note (or isbn_note) to the citation templates. -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:07, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
NSH002 right now in Infoboxes we use |isbn_note=. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:31, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Please do the same for Template:Infobox comic book title. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:09, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

I already did this edit. -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:08, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Magioladitis, added, but do we want to add ISBN linking as well? Frietjes (talk) 21:18, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
What do you mean by ISBN linking?I think the best is the same behaviour with Infobox book. -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:20, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Check also Template:Infobox comics team and title and this. -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:23, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Magioladitis, that template requires using different syntax. by linking, I mean the ISBN is linked through {{ISBNT}}, which also includes some error checking. if we add it to the VGmedia entry, someone will need to fix all the errors that pop up. Frietjes (talk) 21:33, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
Sure. That's what we do. We fix all the errors that pop-up and some that don't. :) -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:36, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
ha, Template:VGmedia/entry is only used on one page, so not much to fix :) Frietjes (talk) 21:43, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

A Second Chance at Sarah has Infobox comic book title which supports only ISSN while this is a graphic novel that has an ISBN. What should we do there? Any suggestions? -- Magioladitis (talk) 22:32, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

ISBNs work with that template. See Strangers in Paradise for an example. The best thing to do is read the documentation for that template. I have adjusted the documentation to clarify that |ISBN= displays only if a matching |TPB= is present. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:23, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
or use graphic novel. I will add some tracking to the former template for cases where the ISBN is not being displayed due to the lack of TPB. Frietjes (talk) 15:00, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Template:Photomontage

Dead user, I saw that you contributed in Template:Photomontage and Module:Photo montage, so I got a question: is it possible to make this Template automatically adjust the heigh of images by cropping the highest to the level of lowest one? I primaly use this template to make rich city-related collages. This template tries to render all images with equal width of all images in row. Sometimes aspect ratio of different images is not the same and as a Result I got an empty space around the lower image which makes the whole collage not so attractive as it could be.--Orange-kun (talk) 19:24, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

That's what I mean. --Orange-kun (talk) 19:33, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Embed infobox military person into infobox college football player

I'm having trouble with this, specifically on Abe Mickal. I noticed the page says "it is possible to insert this infobox into most if not all other infoboxes." Maybe this is an instance where it isn't possible? Or maybe I'm just new to this and I'm doing something wrong somewhere. Most likely the latter. Lizard (talk) 19:08, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

User:Lizard the Wizard, I added a module parameter to the college football player infobox, but I think most people do the reverse (embed college football player into military person). Frietjes (talk) 13:05, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

I can't work out if I have done something wrong or whether the infobox template itself has a flaw. Cheers, Number 57 19:36, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

User:Number 57, fixed with changes to both the article and the template. I may have broken something else, so will have to watch to see if the 'show_blank_fields' logic was needed. Frietjes (talk) 20:50, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
Great, thanks for your help! Number 57 21:08, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Commenting out in ship infoboxes

Hi. Quick question - wondering why you have commented out the battles various Royal Navy ships have taken part in - for example here and here. -- Euryalus (talk) 00:27, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The |Ship notes= parameter appeared twice in that template, which is an error condition that places the article in Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls. When that condition exists in a template, only the content of the second instance of the parameter is displayed. If you look at the previous revision, you will see that the battles are not displayed in the article. Frietjes moved the hidden text to the |Ship notes= parameter but put it in a hidden comment. That way, the error is fixed, the article display is unchanged, and someone familiar with the actual content of the article can decide whether and how the battle information should be displayed. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:01, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, that makes sense. -- Euryalus (talk) 03:42, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Converting college colors to infoboxes

Frietjes, I am wondering how we can automatically convert the colors at the Module into college athletic infoboxes? My thought is that if we could have the Module go directly to the infobox, we will no longer need to manually update the colors to athletic infoboxes (NCAA football, college athletics (main), etc.). All colors would have to be edited at the Module. I believe this would make it much easier. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to do this, and I'm sure there are issues we'd have to deal with. There was a discussion back in Oct. 2015, which you participated in, and I am just hoping to move it along. 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 05:11, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Corkythehornetfan, it's definitely possible, but we should store both the color name and the color hex in the data table, otherwise the names and the colors could become out-of-sync. so, how about if we augment the data module with "name1=", "name2=", "name3=", which would match the hex values already in the table? Frietjes (talk) 13:56, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
That works for me! If you do that, I'll add the names to the table. 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 18:02, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, okay, I will work on it this weekend. my plan would be to have the default be the values specified in the article infobox, but to use the module if they are omitted in the article infobox. will also need to think about the citations for the colors (e.g. Iowa Hawkeyes football). Frietjes (talk) 19:02, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Is there a way to just include the reference from the module as well? I'm not very technical so I don't know what can/can't be done! If it can't be done through the module, what are some ways we could include them? Either way, I've been thinking for awhile now to include a reference to every color at the module. 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 19:18, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, yes, we should be able to put the citations in the module/data, but just have to be careful to make sure it's a well-formed string that doesn't break anything ... I will work on it this weekend. Frietjes (talk) 19:21, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Sounds good. Thank you! 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 19:22, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, seems to work now, see Notre Dame Fighting Irish football and Iowa Hawkeyes football and the corresponding entries in Module:college color/data. currently, the default assumes that the colors are 1 and 3. but, it looks like we may need to allow for 1, 2, and 3 in some cases or, perhaps, a different ordering? the backend template supports alternative orderings, but I didn't hook that into {{Infobox NCAA football school}} yet. so, if that comes up, let me know and I will see what I can do. Frietjes (talk) 19:13, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
You are AWESOME, Frietjes! 1 & 3 are fine for right now... I'll let you know if I come across something. Can we add this to {{Infobox college athletics}}, {{Infobox college basketball team}}, etc., too? 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 19:35, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, those should work as well ... I already see that New Mexico Lobos use three colors, so modifications will be needed if we want to support three colors. Frietjes (talk) 20:28, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks... It helps if I do it right! The only other color for the Lobos is black, but we don't use it. If you want to go ahead and make modifications so that we don't run into the problem in the future, I say go for it! 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 21:29, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, I was looking at New Mexico Lobos men's basketball. it would pretty easy to allow for any permutation of the colors in the data module, but we just need to figure out the desired syntax in the infobox. for example, |team_color_order=132 or whatever works. Frietjes (talk) 22:53, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Personally, I'd rather get rid of column 2 altogether for infoboxes. That column is mainly white, which is mainly used as the font color, and then there is a few that has a darker color for contrast. The Lobos colors are Cherry and Silver per this media guide, so there's no need for white for the Lobos Infobox. I'm going through and updating each and every teams colors, so all will have a white font, main color, and border color. The border and main colors would be used for the infoboxes as they are now. Many of the colors in 1 & 3 are the main colors for the teams. I say 132 should be the order.
One team I do know will have a problem, and I'm sure you've worked it in there somewhere, but K-State has only one color but an accent color of silver will be added soon for border purposes. The only color in the Infobox should be purple. Will that work? 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 23:30, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, yes, I agree that column2 should not be needed. and, I agree we need to do something about schools with only one color (and possibly for schools with more than two colors). the 'header1' submodule automatically picks the font color with the most contrast with the background. this should be the default for all the styles, with the second color (column 3) used for border accents. Frietjes (talk) 23:45, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
I'll let you figure out the the one/3+ colors, and I'll be good whatever you decide to do!
I've tested it for {{Infobox college athletics}} at Emporia State Hornets and it isn't working properly. (I've probably done something wrong!) It doesn't show at all... and it works on others... bringing me back to I've done something wrong! Also, would you be able to add the borders around the color box ( ) for all Infoboxes so that it doesn't have that hideous grey line around it ( )... I think it brings out the color more (and it looks better)! All, but the football infobox had the border, but I'd love for the football infobox had the border too! I can't stand the no border boxes!
Another thing, would you be willing to fix the citations display at the Module, as well, so that it only displays the url instead of the full citation? {{Infobox college baseball team}} as well! 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 03:33, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
@Frietjes: Say I were to just put two color names for a team (e.g. Purple and White ), could we get it to only display those two colors? I think that's one idea... 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 21:21, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, that would work. good idea. I will work on it shortly. as far as the Emporia State infobox goes, the problem is that there are two team names being passed through one parameter, so the name doesn't match one of the names in the table. the best option would probably be to add a second team name to the infobox, which would allow you to remove the <br> delimiter between the names. Frietjes (talk) 21:34, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing it! Will this idea work, even if I do add a border color for a team like K-State that uses "color 1" and "white" as their primary school colors? Just wanna make sure! Also, I believe I've got the border around the color boxes fixed, as well as adding it to the college baseball template... please let me know if I've screwed anything up! 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 23:29, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, as long as you don't add a name for the color, it won't be listed. if you do add a name for the color, it will be listed. for a test, see Kansas State Wildcats. Frietjes (talk) 23:41, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Perfect! Thanks for your help! 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 00:23, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
Last time, I promise... for a few days! When I use "Yale Blue" and "White" for Washburn Ichabods and a few other schools that only have "color1" and white as their colors but have an accent color for border purposes, the "white" doesn't show... 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 02:52, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Corkythehornetfan, fixed. I would still like to remove the second column, but doing so without major breakage is going to be challenging. I will have to think about how to transition without breakage. Frietjes (talk) 15:06, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, and I agree with you, but I believe you will figure it out! Thanks again... you rock! 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 15:30, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
Frietjes, could we possibly use a fourth column for those schools that have three colors, but only have the fourth column used in the infoboxes? I just came across this article and made me think of this. I'm not sure if it will work, but it's a start...
One other thing, it does not like to work when "Lady xxxx" is in the infobox... see LSU Lady Tigers basketball and Baylor Lady Bears basketball for more. 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 03:34, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, any alternative team names must be added to the data module. I added the "deep south sexist" LSU and Baylor names. Frietjes (talk) 14:59, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
Ugh! I should've known that! Thanks! 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 20:02, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
Maryland Terrapins are one with four colors, including white. Would it work if we add two more columns in the Module, but only have them used for the infoboxes or would that complicate things? 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 22:58, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, see Maryland Terrapins, should work now. Frietjes (talk) 23:25, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! 🍀 Corkythehornetfan 🍀 23:43, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Frietjes, I have a couple of questions for ya:

A) How can we get it so that the white will display as the second color when we have a team like The Citadel Bulldogs (name3="example", name2="white")? The darker color has to be displayed for contrast reasons in the navboxes, but it isn't the color for Citadel. So it displays as and . There are a couple of other teams that I have the same problem.
B) A couple of users have problems with color order for certain teams, but they don't want to change it because it will go against contrast and screw up the navboxes. (See here for that conversation.) I think this could go along with my first question... we could get it to display in the name order we list them, not by the order of the hex codes... if that makes sense. Thoughts? ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 07:07, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Corkythehornetfan, I added an optional order= for those two examples. unfortunately, there is no way you can get the ordering of named table parameters, so we have to specify the order if it's not ascending. Frietjes (talk) 15:54, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, Frietjes! Youre the best! ☔️ Corkythehornetfan 🌺 17:44, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Don't we need a code in Module:College color like this edit?
Corkythehornetfan, yes, of course. I plan to refactor that part of the code to reduce the number of string replacements, but for now, you are correct. Frietjes (talk) 21:44, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

Colors for Tennessee and others

Frietjes, now that you got the modules in the template going, can we start on this? There are a good chunk of schools that could use this! 🎓 Corkythehornetfan 🎓 08:08, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you saw this message so this is so you can! 🎓 Corkythehornetfan 🎓 21:16, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
I have no idea what you want me to do here. please provide a concrete example. Frietjes (talk) 21:21, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
How could we get it so that a text outline (like in the navbox below) is in the module for teams like Tennessee, North Carolina, etc. where the white font isn't compliant with the primary background color? Sometimes, black font or another color isn't really readable and the text outline would help. I'm not sure if that is the best way to go, or if there is a different route we could go... 🎓 Corkythehornetfan 🎓 22:24, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Adding "Check ISBN" error message to Infobox book/isbn for ISBNs with extra text

I would like to add the red "Check ISBN" error message to {{Infobox book/isbn}} for ISBNs with extra text, but I get duplicate parameter errors when I try to copy and paste the <span>...</span> block into the second part of the if statement. Do you know the right way to do it? Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:46, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Jonesey95, not sure exactly what you are trying to do, but try changing the = signs inside the span tag to {{=}}. we should also think about just using {{ISBNT}} instead? Frietjes (talk) 14:50, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
I just tried that in {{Infobox book/isbn/sandbox}}, but now I see that editors have been allowed by the documentation to include "ISBN " in the parameter value, which displays the value as is. I'll fiddle with it some more. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:01, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Jonesey95, ah, right. let me know if/when you want me to take a look. Frietjes (talk) 16:03, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Jonesey95 we can change that. We should alow only numbers in the field. -- Magioladitis (talk) 16:04, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
After reading the documentation and the template examples ten times, it seems to me that articles with Infobox book ISBNs of the form "ISBN 123456789X" (extraneous ISBN) or "Foo" should both put articles in Category:Pages using infobox book with an invalid isbn, but there are only five articles in that category. The conclusion I draw from that is that there are no articles using the extraneous "ISBN " in the parameter value, so we can proceed with removing the "ISBN " example from the documentation and convert the template to use {{ISBNT}}.
Please check my logic in the above statement. Am I missing something?
I have modified {{Infobox book/isbn/sandbox}} and its documentation to use {{ISBNT}}. It seems like a much simpler approach, and since there are (I believe) only five invalid ISBNs in the Infobox book template, the change should be transparent to editors. Feedback is welcome. I don't want to make this change and break a large subset of the 37,000 articles that use Infobox book. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:12, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Jonesey95 and Magioladitis, now changed here ... hopefully nothing will blow up ... Frietjes (talk) 16:19, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Clever. That looks right to me. I updated the documentation for Infobox book. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:29, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Frietjes and Jonesey95 I want to write that I really enjoy our cooperation in this field :) Best, Magioladitis (talk) 16:42, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Template:Книга needs to put documentation in subpage ad probably use ISBNT too. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:05, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

even better, should be rewritten as a wrapper for a standard citation template. Frietjes (talk) 14:26, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Is it worth having Template:Clugston&Flemming? -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:08, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

probably not, I am sure there are many more in Category:Chemistry citation templates with low transclusion counts. Frietjes (talk) 14:26, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
There are a few editors who love these templates and a few who like to find and TfD them. There are thousands of them. I prefer to fix things that are actually not working rather than start fights. YMMV. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:09, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Missed case

I realize this case is rather pathological, but I found it in a real article: <ref>{{X1|foo=1</ref><ref>|foo=2}}</ref> MediaWiki detects this as a duplicate argument, but findargdups doesn't. (Here is where I originally found it, if you're curious.) Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:39, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

empty span tags

 Fixed Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 16:40, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
Howdee Frietjes et al. I see you've replaced the citation method in the subject article with a method I'm not familiar with. Is there something untoward about using empty span tags? Thank you, Sandbh (talk) 10:27, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
Sandbh, in the simplest case you can just replace <span id="foo"></span> with {{anchor|foo}}, which is a more robust way of creating anchors. currently, this generates the same thing in the resulting html, but has the advantage that (1) you don't need to close the span tag and (2) if the syntax changes (in say HTML6), we can just change it in one place. even better though is to use the {{harvnb}} family of templates which allow for some error checking since the links won't work if the {{harvnb}} doesn't match the {{harvid}}. by changing them I found several author spelling mismatches and one year error in the last batch (2005 vs 2009). Frietjes (talk) 15:02, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
OK, I'll give this a go. Sandbh (talk) 01:40, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
Magioladitis, for Module:Airport destination list, you just remove them. Frietjes (talk) 17:11, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

Gallery and center tags

Is it safe to assume that every center tag inside gallery tag should be removed? -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:25, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Magioladitis, if all the captions are centered, you can replace them with style="text-align:center" in the gallery tag. Frietjes (talk) 15:26, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Performance key templates

Hi Frietjes, is it possible to merge the templates {{Performance key}} and {{Performance key (Grand Slams)}} into one template that can be used for all tennis player articles? The {{Performance key}} template is the standard option for current players and is by far the most widely used of the two. {{Performance key (Grand Slams)}} is a slimmed down version showing only the relevant fields for Grand Slam tournaments. It is mainly used for retired players of older generations who do not need all the additional info (e.g. Suzanne Lenglen). It can also be used for the main article of current players if they also have a separate career statistics article. In that case the main article shows the concise template while the career statistics article has the full-blown version (e.g. Victoria Azarenka vs. Victoria Azarenka career statistics).--Wolbo (talk) 15:44, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

To elaborate, if a single template exists it would need a parameter field to determine which version should be shown. Additionally it would be useful if a parameter field is added to indicate if a player is active or not so that the sentence "To avoid confusion and double counting, these charts are updated either at the conclusion of a tournament, or when the player's participation in the tournament has ended." is only shown for active players. --Wolbo (talk) 15:52, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
Wolbo, should work now, see the documentation for template:Performance key. Frietjes (talk) 16:00, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
Wow, that was fast. Have tested it in a few articles and it seems to work perfectly. Many thanks! Will migrate the remaining {{Performance key (Grand Slams)}} articles and then TfD it.--Wolbo (talk) 16:20, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Infobox award

Hi, I'm working on emptying Category:Pages using infobox award with undocumented parameters. I've noticed so far that besides reacting to unsupported parameters, it seems like articles are placed in the category if |image_size=, |alt= or |caption= are used without an image present. In some articles like 1994 MTV Movie Awards, it seems that even though an image is present, |image_size= being populated adds the article to the category. Can you take a look? Thanks! — TAnthony 03:35, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

1998 MTV Movie Awards and 1999 AFL Rising Star are examples of two other articles as yet untouched by me which seem to have all the proper parameters but are still in the maintenance category.— TAnthony 03:37, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)  Fixed Three valid parameters were missing from the code that was checking for unsupported parameters. I added them. You may have to do a null edit (edit and save without changing anything) to get an article out of the category. I picked a random sample of articles in that error category, and they were all using |imagesize=, so I think you'll see the category diminish in size rapidly as WP refreshes itself (although this can sometimes take weeks). – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:35, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks!— TAnthony 13:30, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
TAnthony, it looks like it's down to 132 articles (from over 900) after the fix. I added a red error message that appears when you preview your edit, so you should be able to find and fix the problems easily. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:20, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Template help

Hi Frietjes. I posted a request for help on Misplaced Pages:Village pump (technical) two days ago, but no one has responded. Is it possible you could look at the request? The section is Template issue. If there is another place for this type of request, then please let me know. Thanks. Mitchumch (talk) 06:37, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Mitchumch, responded there, but feel free to continue the conversation here. Frietjes (talk) 14:14, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for responding. An example of what I'm seeking is Template:Campaignbox CRM in Washington D.C. The Template:Sidebar appears too basic in function and appearance. Actually, I'm trying to duplicate military conflict infoboxes and campaignboxes for civil conflict articles. Specifically for articles on the Civil Rights Movement. See Prayer Pilgrimage for Freedom as an example. Mitchumch (talk) 22:36, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Tracking categories

Hi Frietjes. Good day to you. Looking at the results of this temporary category (I purposely left it red-linked), it seems that there are only a few articles that use the ps_annual_generation field. Is this trustable? I mean, is that really all the uses (am I missing anything)? Reason I ask is because, I want to remove the {{#iferror: {{#expr:0+{{formatnum:{{{ps_annual_generation|}}}|R}} }}| {{{ps_annual_generation|}}} | {{{ps_annual_generation|}}} ] }} feature from the template, because there could be uses where the numeric figure could be TWh or MWh, so it is not safe to autopopulate the field with GWh. If that is in fact all the usages, I hope to review them manually, and remove the autofill feature. Thanks in advance. Rehman 15:33, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Rehman, since you just added the code 24 hours ago, I would wait another 24 hours to make sure it doesn't fill up further. in the mean time, you could fix the ones in the category Frietjes (talk) 15:37, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
Rehman, added Category:Pages using infobox power station with unitless capacity or generation parameters, since I believe that's exactly what you are looking to fix. Frietjes (talk) 15:42, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Infobox building

Hi, one thing which is still inconsistent is that rather than the normal "pushpin_map= it still has "map type", which frequently causes problems as I forget! Is it possible you could update infobox building to include:

| pushpin_map = | pushpin_mapsize = | pushpin_map_caption = | pushpin_label_position =

and ideally replace "map type" with this eventually (though I know it will take a lot of time).♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:42, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Hey there. Your edit to Template:Infobox book to fill missing values from WikiData isn't quite working. See, for example, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, which has a Published field, populated directly from the infobox, and a (deprecated) Publication date field, populated from WikiData. I suppose we should populate the Published field, if absent, with the Wikidata value for Publication date. But I'm loath to make this change myself, as I'm not familiar with the syntax. Cheers. U+003F 12:09, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

User:U+003F, fixed that case ... I am sure there will be more issues. it may be useful to add tracking for places where both |published= and |pub date= are used at the same time. Frietjes (talk) 14:36, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

I wrote my concerns in WikiProject Books. In many cases the ISBNs were imported in Wikidata but not checked. I have to remove duplicated entries. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:42, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Jonesey95 and Magioladitis, I am working on a proper solution, but for now, I am using a more direct method with the uses tracked in a hidden category for testing/checking later ... Frietjes (talk) 14:52, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. It's not your fault that a bot obtainted info from English Wikidata without first checking that the ISBN value at least exists. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:57, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Jonesey95 and Magioladitis, I created a lua version of ISBNT which processes lists of ISBNs, so we now have checking on the ISBNs pulled from wikidata. of course, they still could be for the wrong book, but at least this will make sure they have the correct checksum. GA nominee template error

Hi, Frietjes. On {{GA nominee}} it throws an error if the subtopic parameter is left blank or if it is removed. See Template talk:GA nominee#subtopic throws error in spite of instructions, or see Talk:Planned Parenthood. ISMN

How should we treat ISMN? I think we need to create Template:ISMN. Right now when used as parameter (e.g. here) it produces only a link to ISMN and not to a search page. I think the ISMN template should be similar to Template:ISSN. cc: @Redrose64 and Jonesey95: -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:30, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

No, ISBN would be more appropriate than ISSN, since ISSNs begin 977- but ISMNs begin 979- whereas ISBNs may begin 978- or 979- --Redrose64 (talk) 22:44, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Redrose64 I meant that we have no ISBN template because we have magic for this. I meant we need a template that will also check for checksum. Probably something like ISBNT. -- Magioladitis (talk) 06:48, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
as far as I can tell, the citation family of templates includes checksum validation, so using the parameter in the citation template is probably the best solution. Frietjes (talk) 14:04, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

New Schubert Edition for instance does not use any citation template. -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:01, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Magioladitis: It should be straightforward to create an ISMN template if there is somewhere useful for the number to link to. Do you know where it should link to? For example, ISBN links to Special:Booksources, and ISSN links directly to worldcat.org. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:44, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Jonesey95 Check here. The links link to International Standard Music Number. -- Magioladitis (talk) 16:55, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Magioladitis, the question is which site to use for the external link. for ISBNs we link the number to Special:BookSources, and ISSNs link to worldcat.org. for ISMNs we could use something like http://www.ismn-international.org/directory.php, but I haven't found a ISMN that actually works in that search form. Frietjes (talk) 17:22, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
this works now. when we have a site for linking the number, we can add that to the template. Frietjes (talk) 17:37, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Wales county boxes

Hi, want to begin work on Vale of Glamorgan but the infoboxes are really an eyesore. Is it possible you could replace them all with infobox settlement? There's not that many of them, see Template:Wales subdivisionsDr. Blofeld 07:03, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

fixed by someone else? Frietjes (talk) 14:04, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
It's better yup but the government section still doens't look right with a big uncentered image, and it's missing the usual Country UK/Wales parameter. It would look better with the shield smaller in top center. Were the boxes replaced on the other counties or was it just that one? Another thing, can you edit that British cuisine side box in Welsh cuisine so you can put photos neatly in the top of them? Looks a bit cluttered otherwise.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:23, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Caitlyn Jenner re: P18 on Wikidata

Hi, Frietjes. Caitlyn Jenner article is in Category:No local image but image on Wikidata which relates to Wikidata property P18. Here is her Wikidata item: Q365144. What does this all mean and how to fix the category? Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 03:40, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Checkingfax, that category was generated by {{Wikidata image}} inside of {{infobox sportsperson}}. since there was no image in the sportsperson section of the top infobox, the page was added to the category. however, I don't think it makes sense to have two images in the infobox, and infobox person is already tracking this issue, so I added some logic to infobox sportsperson to only track missing images when the infobox is not an embedded infobox. the assumption here is that the lack of an infobox image will be tracked by the parent box, when a box is embedded. Frietjes (talk) 14:27, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Frietjes, most probably this should be done in also other infoboxes. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 21:43, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
User:Edgars2007, yes, I agree. I was going to do this, but so many of the transclusions of {{wikidata image}} are from wrappers for {{infobox person}}, so it was going to take some effort for me to find all of the fixable cases. I hope to have some time this weekend. Frietjes (talk) 13:37, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
According to this search, not so many templates. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 15:35, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
User:Edgars2007, thank you, that explains why I was finding so many false positives with "what links here". I have added code to the templates listed in your search, so the only remaining false positives should have a less obvious fix. Frietjes (talk) 16:07, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Philippines election (May 2016)

There are elections (at all levels) next month. {{PH wikidata}} will be needs to enhanced to allow new current date, but also allow other dates as required. But may take a year for data to be set for Commission.

Also, there was a census in 2015. Same result, but it may take about three years for census data to be allowed.

I don't know if {{]}} can be isolated by date (qualifier) or whether it needs to be massaged by e.g. {{replace}}. Also, I don't need exact how {{safesubst:}} works, or how the para |2=? means. Mary McAllen (talk) 21:31, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Mary McAllen, don't worry about the safesubst:, that's there in case someone wants to use the template to substitute the template. that can be easily fixed if there is a problem. as far as the population dates go, we just need to make sure that the population at Wikidata matches the date at Wikidata. if that's the case, we can always use {{replace}} to massage the output. let me know if there is a particular article with a problem, or if you need any help forming a regular expression for massaging the output. infobox amusement park on Gilroy Gardens

Good morning, Frietjes. I was wondering why on certain templates, such as template:infobox amusement park, the image parameter requires the standard image format of ] such as is used on Gilroy Gardens. Without the template, the image will not show up, and only plain text does, and without the sizing the image size is the raw image size. With templates such as infobox person we just put in the image file name, it shows up, and the image auto sizes to fit. Ping me back. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 07:48, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

@Mary McAllen: you don't need to worry about that. Anyway, alphabetic order doesn't make any sense at Wikidata, as those "page names" (labels, as they are called at Wikidata) are different for different languages. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 09:46, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Edgars2007 But when they are copied in wp page, sort is important. "…doesn't make any sense at Wikidata…" Mary McAllen (talk) 13:58, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
@Mary McAllen: that is Misplaced Pages's problem :) And you can sort them via modules. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 17:42, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Query

Hello! Can you please tell me on which pages should {{Authority control}} be used and what is it used for? I tried to get an idea from WP:Authority Control but could not get much. -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 02:47, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Capankajsmilyo, any page with authority control related links on wikidata (you can see examples by following the links on pages transcluding the template). it is generally placed below all the navboxes on the page. having it automatically included along with a particular navbox is a bad idea, since this will lead to double inclusion, or inclusion in the wrong location. Frietjes (talk) 13:41, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. But why does it appear on few pages and not on others? On which category of pages does it appear? -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 03:59, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

PMID

I did this but it was wrong. Right now |PMID= has not the same behaviour as ISBN parameters. Can you please fix this so that pmid behaves the same as |isbn=? cc: @Redrose64:, @Jonesey95: -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:10, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

It's not that simple. The value is not checked at all, and so people have put all sorts of stuff in the |pmid= parameter. See Netpath, TreeFam, and ChEBI, for example. These were the first three transclusions I clicked on, so I suspect that there are a lot of non-PMID values in that parameter. At this point, changing the {{Infobox biodatabase}} template's documentation to match the current usage might be the best thing to do. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:26, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
we could create some tracking categories for (1) purely numeric values and (2) PMID followed by a number. safely changing how that parameter operates is going to require checking all the transclusions which use it. Frietjes (talk) 21:29, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

@Jonesey95 and Frietjes: Maybe you are interested about this page Misplaced Pages:CHECKWIKI/WPC 102 dump. It should contain, but not limited all the "invalid" parameters. -- Magioladitis (talk) 22:08, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

I would suggest changing that parameter name from "pmid" to "citation" (leaving pmid as an alias) on the infobox's talk page, and then suggest in the documentation that editors can either provide "Name et al" with a ref or simply "PMID 123456" as valid values. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:18, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
Jonesey95 already done, and added tracking for finding the ones which match a particular pattern. Frietjes (talk) 22:19, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
Magioladitis, feel free to run through Category:Pages using infobox biodatabase with a linked pmid and remove the PMID prefix (assuming that the result will be a pure number with no other garbage). Frietjes (talk) 22:55, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. I fixed almost everything. Some contain referenced and some contain multiple numbers. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:11, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Magioladitis, great. for the rest in Category:Pages using infobox biodatabase with a malformed pmid, you can just change 'pmid=' to 'citation=', assuming it doesn't look like a PMID. Frietjes (talk) 23:26, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
Fixed all. When we team up we rock! -- Magioladitis (talk) 06:26, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

CFCF That was incredibly rude and demeaning. A bot account has the word "bot" in its username. You do have duplicate args in that template. The page shows up in category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls. You currently have 10 pages in that category. Any page there is fair game to fix, including user pages, as anybody can edit them. Anybody working on that maintenance list will try to fix the problem on your pages. Your pages do have an error and are doing non-standard ways to "hide fields". Instead, use comment tags, the standard why to "hide" material.
Even worse, you created User:CFCF/Automated "gnoming" is getting out of hand. That page shows up on the list, so you knew Frietjes would see it. That is incredibly uncalled for. Delete the page.
Next time, ask nicely instead of blowing up. Bgwhite (talk) 23:44, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
No, user pages are not fair game to "fix" — read up on WP:USERPAGE. I created that page in an effort to remind myself to write a post for the village pump — not because it was intended to be seen by Frietjes. Having bad code is my prerogative as long as it does not spread outside my own areas, and I mean it, when "gnoming" has no possibility of helping anyone — with the only purpose to make sure that certain users attain ridiculous edit counts, then it is out of hand.
You Bgwhite similarly ruined a page by running your gnoming scripts: — breaking the image-links. When the benefits are less than insignificant, and there is potential damage — "gnoming" is disruptive. Carl Fredik 💌 📧 07:18, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, meant this diff Carl Fredik 💌 📧 07:51, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
CFCF Per WP:NOBAN, one can edit, especially for errors. It is and has been commonly done. Having bad code is not your prerogative when it causes problems elsewhere. It can clutter up error categories, add sandbox pages to normal categories, inappropriate templates like prods, etc. Gee whiz, Frietjes was fixing what she thought was an error and you going all postal on her is NOT CALLED FOR. She was trying to do a helpful edit.
Egads, I fix people's mistakes all day, but if I make one, you go all postal. "Ruined", yea, stop with your uncivil attitude. Messing up one image is not ruining a page. Stop assuming everyone is evil and gnomes are only out to cause havoc. BE CIVIL!!!
Remove your attack page that was created towards Frietjes.
Try asking nice for a change. Bgwhite (talk) 07:50, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
The reason I posted here was because in spite of reverting the edit — she ran the script again on my page, less than 2 minutes later, which is in clear violation of WP:NOBAN. You are the one who made up the story about an attack page, when nothing of the sort exists. Carl Fredik 💌 📧 07:55, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
You do lot of useful work but seem to have a significant judgment problem. It's fine to get all pointy when dealing with POV pushers who want to promote fringe nonsense, but enthusiastic blue-linked comments that are appropriate for those circumstances are not applicable here. By all means ask Frietjes to not fix errors on a page in your user space, but other editors may equally ask you to not post such errors and then object when people try to clear backlogs. How about engaging with the issue? You can register your objection while accepting the correction. Johnuniq (talk) 10:40, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Johnuniq — what you suggest is also precisely what I have already done. I started by asking, but upon a second iteration of the exact same edit despite my revert two minutes earlier I chose to express my dismay at automated gnoming. I do not think that automated edits like this are helpful, and I opted to ask Frietjes to leave my usesspace alone and start an essay about automated gnoming for future reference. This whole thing has escalated in a manner that is entirely opposed to my intentions — and I resent that you feel it necessary to once again take part and point out perceived shortcomings on my side.
As such your comment amounts to nothing beyond an ad hominem attack aimed to discredit me — and I believe for that reason that I am not the one with the significant judgement problem. Carl Fredik 💌 📧 11:45, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Good put down, well done. By the way, editing a notification does not work: I was not pinged. Johnuniq (talk) 11:51, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

Note on duplicate args from my bot run

Just an FYI. I'm aware of the duplicate arguments that are (rarely) introduced by my bot run relating to {{WikiProject Biography}}. When a run is done, I go through manually and clean them up, since they're often the result of typos or otherwise malformed class parameters. Thanks for cleaning up behind my bot recently, but you're welcome to leave that to me in the future if you prefer. I don't want you to feel like you're having to clean up behind my own mess! ~ Rob 18:07, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

2016 Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Search Community Survey

rotated text?

Hi.

I noticed that you tweak some code on the shogi diagram template (Template:Shogi diagram). Since you see to be an expert on this type of stuff (or at least you seem to know a lot more than me), i was wondering about your thoughts on rotated text.

You may be noticed that having lots of diagrams may make the page load times a bit slower than other pages without so many images. Better solution is to use text instead of images. Images were used firstly because that's what was used on Japanese site and i didn't know if it was possible to rotate text using .css.

However, i now see that it is possible (at for my browser). This site:

http://kyokumen.jp/positions/12503091

uses a particular rotation solution:

td.gote {
        -moz-transform:matrix(-1, 0, 0, -1, 0, 0);
        -webkit-transform:matrix(-1, 0, 0, -1, 0, 0);
        -o-transform:matrix(-1, 0, 0, -1, 0, 0);
        -ms-transform:matrix(-1, 0, 0, -1, 0, 0);
        transform:matrix(-1, 0, 0, -1, 0, 0);
        filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(rotation=2);
}

Do you think this is a good idea to use here? Do you think it's compatible for browsers accessing wikipedia?

thanks in advance – ishwar  (speak) 04:12, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Ish ishwar: The transform: property is part of CSS Transforms Module Level 1, and the filter: property is part of Filter Effects Module Level 1, both of which are at the W3C Working Draft stage so are not yet finalised, nor are they guaranteed to work in all browsers. I would be very careful about using any CSS properties that are not yet in a full W3C Recommendation - it may yet end up as a W3C Working Group Note, i.e. abandoned work. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:08, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

hi again. thanks for the infos.
i have a tangentially related question: do you know how the height of a
<td>
in a table can be controlled? The .css height in the style attribute doesn't work as expected. It seems that the table cell is mostly controlled by font-size in that making the height value smaller doesn't make the actual cell's height shorter once it gets to some minimum threshold. The relevant things are Module:Shogi_diagramtest, Template:Shogi_diagramtest, & Template_talk:Shogi_diagramtest. – ishwar  (speak) 00:34, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
The problem here is that you used height:12; without specifying a unit, so the browser doesn't know whether you mean 12%, 12px, 12em or something else. For all non-zero dimensions, units are required by the CSS spec. Some browsers (but not all) will interpret this omitted unit as if you had written height:12px; but that is non-standard behaviour and not to be relied upon. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:05, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks. That is a typo of mine. (Sorry) However, it isn't the problem. I just changed the value to 5px. Changing to 12px or 5px or whatever has no effect on the td height. Now, I can make the height taller if the height value is greater than whatever the min threshold height is (e.g. by height: 100px). But, I can't make the realized height shorter than threshold. – ishwar  (speak) 15:05, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

cs1 error in Template:Numis cite SCWC

Template:Numis cite SCWC is giving off cs1 errors. It's using multiple authors in author=. Shouldn't the editors go into an editor and not other parameter? Template:Numis cite SCWPM has the same problem. This should remove alot of articles from the cs1 error cat. Bgwhite (talk) 18:58, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

partially fixed, but User:Trappist the monk could probably do better (e.g., moving the editors out of the author fields). Frietjes (talk) 21:19, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

2014–15 in Israeli football

Hi, I noticed you have amended the 2014–15 in Israeli football article to transclude tables of both 2016 Euro qualification and 2017 U-21 Euro qualification. However, the amendment is unnecessary, as the transclusion of the tables mean that the data presented will relate to 2015–16 season (as the tables include matches played after August 2015) and not the 2014–15 season. I have deliberately put the tables as they were at the end of the 2014–15 season to reflect the status of the tables at this point of time. Therefore, I apologize, but I am undoing both revisions you made today, to return the article to its properly presented data. --Eranrabl (talk) 05:20, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

WP:ORDINAL

Since we do not allow sup tags in English ordinals I wonder whether we should allow in other languages. I am not sure. -- Magioladitis (talk) 18:24, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

no idea, probably could be discussed on a project talk page somewhere. Frietjes (talk) 18:41, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
Aha, you're thinking of edits like this which recently appeared on my watchlist. These happen because people copypaste from French Misplaced Pages without checking that templates display as intended. They have fr:Modèle:4e, we don't. I would say that if it occurs inside an actual French-language quotation, alter it to "4"; otherwise, translate to "4th". --Redrose64 (talk) 19:06, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

On issue parameter removal

why is Yobot removing the issue from the citation? yes, there is a duplicate issue parameter, but the first one is the volume and the second one is the issue. this is the exact sort of duplicate parameter problem that should be corrected by hand, and not by a bot. Frietjes AWB bug. -- Magioladitis (talk) 17:28, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
Reported at T137329. -- Magioladitis (talk) 17:31, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

I would like to @Rjwilmsi:. Apparently, this is a more general AWB feature which has been proven very helpful in the case of isbn codes. For instance, if one contains the text of the other. work=ABC and work=ABC news, then makes sense to remove first one. I wonder what would be the best solution in case to retain this and avoid false positives. I know that we are 6000 pages away of now having duplicated parameters and soon(!) this discussion will be obsolete. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:14, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

Magioladitis, it seems very bad AWB is doing things that were considered unsafe when SporkBot was approved since people are using AWB as a bot. makes me wonder how many articles have been mangled without any accounting. and no, this discussion won't be obsolete until the "feature" is removed from AWB. the category is constantly adding new members. Frietjes (talk) 14:21, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
I wonder if we should modify it to remove duplicated parameters only if two parameters match a starting substring i.e. "ABC" and "ABC news" . What do you think? -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:35, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Another idea is to add a restriction of minimum length. For instance, 5 bytes. Or in the safest case only when there is a perfect match after trimming whitespace. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:36, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Magioladitis, just remove the feature completely. we don't need it. there is already a bot fixing the ones that can be fixed safely, and a group of humans fixing the entries in the duplicate parameter tracking category. how can I get this feature removed immediately? Frietjes (talk) 16:11, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Magioladitis, the duplicate parameters that are remaining require human intervention. I have fixed a few thousand of them, and I am pretty sure that there are no machine-fixable problems left in the category, except for the new additions that Sporkbot is handling well. AWB should not try to deal with duplicated parameters. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:30, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Jonesey95, exactly. FYI, this is an example of AWB removing the issue from a citation, which the correct action would be to have a human check the link and see which number is the |issue= and which is the |volume=. Magioladitis, why hasn't this feature been fixed yet? where was the code review before this feature was added? how can we find all the citations that were mangled because if this feature? Frietjes (talk) 19:13, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

We added this piece of code in May 2015. I already talked to Rjwilmsi about it. I was not aware of how this was working. I thought it only removed exact matches as WPCleaner does. Programmer's info: this is part of FixCitationTemplates so it affects only citation templates and not all templates. more specifically it works only on "cite web", "cite news", "cite journal", "cite book", "citation", "cite conference", "cite hansard", "cite manual", "cite paper", "cite press release", "cite encyclopedia", "cite AV media", "vcite2 journal", "cite magazine", "cite report" and only in English Misplaced Pages. IT also does not affcte any parameters that ends with digit (e.g. last2 parameter).

I have no data of how many pages may have been affected. -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:44, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

rev 12023 fixes it. -- Magioladitis (talk) 22:02, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing it. This change should never have been added, per WP:CONTEXTBOT: "Unsupervised bot processes should not make context-sensitive changes that would normally require human attention." – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:50, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Jonesey95 I agree but the examples we had were on the safe side i.e. obvious errors. (For example we had a citaition with 2 year parameters one 4 digits and one 3 digits. Another example we had in mind was a isbn of right length and one of wrong length whose string was part of the one of the right string). As you see we also had a lot of limitations and we were not fixing this unconditionally. We did not think of the many errors it could occur. Btw, the limitation we had shows that most probably the extend of the damage done is not that big. Anyway, now it's fixed.
On the other question "why it was not fixed already": Because I am volunteer and I do things on my free time. I do not have constant access to AWB's code. I reported the bug within 4 hours since it was reported, contacted Rjwimsi who is a also a volunteer programmer, communicated with a couple more people for ideas and, found the problematic piece of code and fixed in after 1 day. This is the best I could do. -- Magioladitis (talk) 06:33, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

WPBiography with unknown parameters

Do we have some tracking category like WPBiography with unknown parameters? . -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:34, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

I suspect this is going to be a huge list. Let's see. It's still loading. I already created a first set of fixes. -- Magioladitis (talk) 16:58, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Frietjes great job my friend! -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:42, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
Magioladitis, just created Category:Pages using WikiProject Football with unknown parameters, will see if that one fills up. Frietjes (talk) 15:33, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
I am not 100% familiar with this template. I could go and brutally remove all unknown parameters. Is this the right approach? -- Magioladitis (talk)
No. Many unknown parameters are typos for valid parameters. Sometimes there are also parameters that are identified as "unknown" that have been discussed on the template's talk page and have not yet been implemented, or have been deprecated but there is no consensus to remove them, or any number of circumstances. You have to go parameter by parameter.
That said, there are a few template parameters, like |bgcolor= in infoboxes, that have been deprecated across all templates of that type (as far as I know) and can be removed with a script.
And please remember, as you seem to need a periodic reminder, that using a bot or AWB to make a change to an article that results in no visible change to the rendered article is not generally permitted and will get you in trouble (again). – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:20, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
Example of an easily-fixed typo. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:29, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
Surely this edit defeats the object? They're not presently recognised, so if they may be in the future, where is the addition of those parameters currently being discussed? --Redrose64 (talk) 16:57, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
I am starting a thread at WT:WikiProject Football. per the discussion at WP:VPT, these sort of tracking categories should be emptied, and not kept indefinitely. Frietjes (talk) 17:00, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
see this tread at WT:WikiProject Football. Frietjes (talk) 17:07, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
Who said anything about keeping them indefinitely? What do you think that these edits were for? --Redrose64 (talk) 18:20, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
and where would you map South Korea, Austria, Mexico, ...? Frietjes (talk) 18:22, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
It is my belief that the people who are using these parameters are acting under the assumption that every country and continent has a task force. --Redrose64 (talk) 18:41, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
should Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Football/Finland task force be supported? Frietjes (talk) 18:54, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

Frietjes and Marios, probably too late for football, but for future... Created such list (unknown params for WP:Footy template) with their values (for first part of list, because in middle something went wrong). Probably useful at the beginning to determine the most popular ones and sent a bot to them. List contains some bugs because a) i'm a python newby b) code is dirty, will have to work on it. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 15:46, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

I have been travelling and have no time now nor am I in a rush to finish it. Thanks, --Maragm (talk) 15:23, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Maragm, no problem, but if you use "show preview" you will see the duplicate ano error. the year for that publication is 2003 not 2009. A bot will probably try to fix it if you don't. Frietjes (talk) 15:24, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I'll revert myself, but please, let me finish it when I find the time. --Maragm (talk) 15:26, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
Maragm, no problem, the only reason I found it was because of the duplicate ano error. if you want a minimal change that just fixes that error, go with the version just after my first edit. Frietjes (talk) 15:28, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

I understand the reason for the edit - but only after I looked up the details3 template. Frietjes, is there a way we can get this to automatically do the best contrast for font? If I were to do |teamcolors=y for TCU, it shows purple background with grey font. I'm thinking an automatic contrast reader would be really helpful instead of having to manually insert the color codes (the fear is the code being wrong).
