The name for the language is fairly recent (from the early 1990s) and is a controversial issue. Croats and Serbs in Bosnia-Herzegovina call their languag Croatian and Serbian.
The language is based on the Western variant of the Shtokavian dialect and uses both the Latin and Cyrillic alphabet.
Differences from other versions include many words of Turkish and Arabic origin and some phonetic differences.
