This page has an administrative backlog that requires the attention of willing administrators.
Please replace this notice with {{no admin backlog}} when the backlog is cleared.

Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Misplaced Pages. For information on retitling files, categories, and other items, see § When not to use this page.

Before moving a page or requesting a move, please review the article titling policy and the guidelines on primary topics.

Any autoconfirmed user can move a page using the "Move" option in the editing toolbar; see how to move a page for more information. If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:

  • Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. In such cases, see § Requesting technical moves.
  • Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
  • A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
  • A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
  • Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.

Requests are typically processed after seven days. If consensus supports the move at or after this time, a reviewer will perform it. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved." When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time, or closed as "no consensus". See Misplaced Pages:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.

Misplaced Pages:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.

When not to use this page

Shortcuts

Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:

Undiscussed moves

Shortcuts

Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:

  • No article exists at the new target title;
  • There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
  • It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.

If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.

Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.

  1. The result of the merge voting of zh:內湖虐貓事件(means "Cat abuse incident in Neihu") and zh:方尚文(means "Shangwen Fang") on zh-wp is to merge into zh:內湖虐貓事件. To move this page to Cat abuse incident in Neihu will make the article mapping between en/zh WP more precisely.
  2. This article describes the cat abuse incident more than Fang himself.

Also I do not think it's good to reveal someone's personal data on WP if the person is not a famous one (however, some might disagree). … Please share your opinion at Talk:Shangwen Fang. — H.T. Chien / 眼鏡虎 (Discuss|Contributions) 13:51, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Seven Warlords of the SeaShichibukaiRationale: Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Anime and manga, The new wording on Misplaced Pages's policy says that "Shichibukai" is what is to be used. Also, the page already reflects the what the new title should be. This is my first time doing this, so I might get this wrong.… Please share your opinion at Talk:Shichibukai. — (Justyn 07:58, 19 September 2006 (UTC))
  • AkéAkeRationale: By WP MESO proposed guidelines, Maya sites whose name derives from a Mayan language do not require accented characters when appearing in english prose (the accent is a feature when the placename is written in spanish prose), and hence the designated title should be Ake. However, this move is obstructed as the target Ake has a non-trivial edit history. The only alternative meaning noted for Ake is as a mis-spelling redirect of a particular coinage from the Ottoman Empire, this should be more easily handled by providing a hatnote link to Akçe once Ake becomes the article about the Maya site … Please share your opinion at Talk:Aké. — cjllw | TALK 05:06, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Huaiwen XuXu HuaiwenRationale: According to Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (Chinese), Chinese names should be presented with their last names first unless there is a special case of the name in English ordering being more notable. There is no evidence that the later is true, with "Xu Huaiwen" appearing as often as "Huaiwen Xu" even in German texts. There is no evidence that the said person has officially changed her name when migrating to Germany, and wikipedia should not be changing her name for her, obviously without her consent. … Please share your opinion at Talk:Huaiwen Xu.--Huaiwei 07:28, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
  • KUWBKUCWRationale: Clear Channel Communications changed call letters of KUCW Coos Bay, Oregon to KMCB, clearing the way for the KUCW calls to be moved to their Ogden, Utah CW affiliate, formerly KUWB. I was able to move the former KUCW to KMCB, but could not move KUWB to KUCW, as the KUCW article still exists as a redirect to KMCB. Request speedy resolution. --dhett 08:15, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

  • WWWW (AM)WDTW (AM)Rationale: This radio station had changed it's call letters from WDTW (AM) to WWWW (AM) back in July of this year and has just changed them back to WDTW (AM) on September 15th for some reason. I tried to move it myself and for some reason it wouldn't move it back. I tried to do a swap which also didn't work and created even more useless redirects. … Please share your opinion at Talk:WWWW (AM). — RobDe68 03:16, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

  • KDMDTKDMI-DTRationale: Page was originally at KCWI-DT but I moved it to "KDMDT" by mistake. The article was created at KDMI-DT and moved to KCWI-DT when the FCC changed its call letters, but the call letters were changed back to KDMI-DT before the station signed on. KCWI-DT does not exist as KCWI-TV (formerly KPWB) has no digital signal. … Please share your opinion at Talk:KDMDT. — Iowahwyman 23:21, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

The problem with the template was a problem with the redirect at The Stills-Young Band which went to CSNY instead - I have fixed that. -- Beardo 12:08, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Rationale: The titles are wrong! All the Pokémon episodes title are taken from 'tv.com'. I think we should move them so that readers will not be confused...

  • Microsoft ZuneZuneRationale: Overwhelming majory of readers will be looking for the music player, once it's released by a factor of millions to one I'd guess. GUI toolkit can be disambiged at top of Zune page without harm to anyone. It is of very limited interest compared to the music player. This has been a matter of contention since July at least. … Please share your opinion at Talk:Microsoft Zune. — Fourdee 03:54, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

  • ChamorrosChamoruRationale: Although the name "Chamorro" is more widely known elsewhere in the world, "Chamoru" is more aboriginal and therefore the "Chamoru" page would be a more appropriate location for the ethnic group's article. "Chamorros" should redirect to "Chamoru" (without an "s" since that is superfluous for the purpose of referring to the Chamoru people in plural form when preceded by the article "the") instead of vice-versa. … Please share your opinion at Talk:Chamorros. — Adrigon 10:10, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

  • The PixiesPixiesRationale: The band always refers to themselves as Pixies rather than The Pixies, and people typing in Pixies (which is the band's official name) are now lead to a disambig page (which discuss *singular* versions of the word). All links from other articles will now be at that disambig page, and no consensus was reached beforehand - while in the middle of the article being a FAC! … Please share your opinion at Talk:The Pixies. — CloudNine 09:07, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Wolli KangronDivine PrincipleRationale: "Divine Principle" is the English name which all English-speaking Unification Church members use, even to refer to the new translation. Naming it by the Korean "Wolli Kangron" in the English Misplaced Pages has the double disadvantage of excluding "Wolli Haesol" and "Wolli Wonbon" (which are also expressions of Divine Principle). Looking back through the edit summaries, it is clear that those who moved it and then moved it again don't speak Korean and misunderstood certain issues. I proposed this move in June and again in mid-August, with no response. I couldn't do the move myself only because a bot corrected the double-redirects that the mover failed to fix (two items in edit history). -Exucmember 22:59, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Germany to Germany (single) should be moved to Germany to Germany. Then the former location, as well as the redirect Germany to Germany (Single) can be deleted, as I doubt anyone would take the time to add "(single)" in a search. The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 22:12, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

(Also posted to User talk:Mustafa Akalp and WP:RM)
A total confusion emerged over Chalki and Heybeli Ada created, I guess, by User:Mustafa Akalp. I (ultimately) fixed it, including single and double redirects, except that Chalki and Chalki (Greek island) are now forks; the latter should be redirected. I don't hold any position on correct naming, except that (obviously) Heybeli Ada and Chalki are distinct islands, so I moved them to those respective articles. Take it on from here please. This should be reverted to Enriched uranium ASAP. I see no reason to move to Enriched Uranium - that needs to be debated. -- Beardo 08:56, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Fine. But do that ASAP. I though U should be capital as it is the name of an element.nids(♂) 09:01, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

I fixed it. No, you don't automatically capitalize the name of an element (not in English anyway). --Fastfission 11:58, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Chilean-Confederation war ¿ War of the Confederation - Rationale: The common name used in the history books of Latin America is War of the Confederation , not the new one that has been substituted and represents a clear POV. The name comes not from a list of the participants (Argentina, Chile, Confederation) but from the fact that the ultimate goal of each side was either to preserve or eliminate the Confederation as a political entity within Latin America . The new name ¿Chilean-Confederation War¿ assumes only two participants, which is not the case, and is not even in common use in Peru, the only place where it has some actual proponents. The older Peruvian historians all use ¿War of the Confederation¿. Propose going back to War of the Confederation since it is the most commonly used name in all history books - Mel Romero 02:01, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

12 September 2006

There is no consensus to use the POV title, on the contrary. Also note that Lapaz is refusing to participate in discussion of his edits. The article should for the time being stay where it has been for quite some time now. Anyone interested in solving the dispute may join discussion at Talk:Herero and Namaqua Wars. Maria Stella 09:29, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

  • ItihasaHindutva ItihasaRationale: The content of the article is religious information of Hindutva. So, it will well suit to the title 'History of Hindutva' (Hindutva Itihasa) and not 'Itithas'. This is because the current title Itihasa is simple translation of word History and artcle with title Itihasa or History shall not be so narrowly defined. • Yin Yang Yo!Yin Yang Yo- Rationale: In the official title of the show it is not called Yin Yang Yo!, but just Yin Yang Yo, and I think the article would be easier to locate if it was Yin Yang Yo. Share your opinion at Talk:Yin Yang Yo!
