Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Shortcuts
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Temporary pending changes: Persistent vandalism – Saw the movie, vandal target, see history. ∼∼∼∼ Eric0928

- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Only one edit was made to the article on April 22, and article was vandalized by one account (now blocked) on April 20. Protection not needed at this time. ~Oshwah~ 14:30, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Six months' semi-protection. This is an upcoming big-budget Indian action film. It's been an ongoing source of frustration at pending changes thanks to a constant stream of anonymous edits that are mostly neither obvious vandalism nor helpful at all. (They're almost always efforts to move preferred performers ahead of others in cast lists, add poorly-written prose about the plot, include unsourced claims about the budget, and similar unhelpful stuff.) Yesterday, I had to let an unhelpful edit stand because it would have been a fourth revert in 24 hours; just now, I had to restore several bad edits because my revert seems to have been a violation. The film's director is aiming for a release date of October 18, and I believe the only way to achieve a stable version is by semi-protecting until then. CityOfSilver 14:37, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- For that matter, I'd appreciate it if the admin responding to this report could revert my most recent edit there. CityOfSilver 14:51, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – 50 edits/day most IP and most un constructive, section blanking etc. L3X1 (distant write) 14:43, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- Was SEMI for 4 days earlier this month L3X1 (distant write) 14:44, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Temporary protection: Persistent vandalism, of the middle school variety. 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 14:49, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Shahjalal International Airport
Permanent semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. The passenger destination table of this article is disruptively manipulated by many IP users with addition of non-existent/ terminated destinations. This page needs long term semi-protection. Vibhss (talk) 15:31, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- Done Semi'd for three months, which will hopefully be long enough for the IPs to get bored and find a new hobby. If it continues once the protection expires, re-request it—I'm reluctant to indefinitely protect an article on an international airport, as this is the kind of topic which a lot of legitimate new editors start off by editing. ‑ Iridescent 16:03, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Protection request in own userspace. UpsandDowns1234 (🗨) (My Contribs) 15:57, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- Not done I can see no vandalism in the history, nor have you provided any indication that you expect it. User pages and subpages may be protected upon a request from the user, as long as a need exists—pages in userspace should not be automatically or pre-emptively protected. ‑ Iridescent 16:01, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- <edit-conflict> Declined ...User-pages and user subpages can be protected if a need exists... Has not been vandalised before, a need is not visible at this point.Lectonar (talk) 16:02, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- I'll also offer the general observation that applying the tilt attribute to your talkpage is at best a completely obnoxious thing to do, and at worst is outright disruption, given that it has no conceivable benefit and screws up the ability to read the page, particularly for anyone using a low-resolution monitor or an older browser. ‑ Iridescent 16:09, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- My brain hurts, actually @UpsandDowns1234:...would you be so kind as to just remove that? Generally, I applaud your enthusiasm, but must agree with the above: I too see it as (borderline) disruption. Lectonar (talk) 16:32, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level
ShortcutsBefore posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Template:Cite news
Indefinite template protection: High-risk template – With only slightly more than 700,000 transclusions, this probably is better serviced with template protection. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 13:21, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
- oppose: Picking an arbitrary number as a cutoff point seems, well, arbitrary. Virtually all of the cs1 templates are minor variants of
{{cite news}}
({{cite arxiv}}
and the cs2 template{{citation}}
are a bit more elaborate). All of the heavy lifting done for the cs1|2 templates is done by Module:Citation/CS1 and associated modules. Going about and changing protection levels for these templates seems rather a waste of time to me because there isn't really anything to 'service'. These comments apply to the other cs1 template listed on this page. —Trappist the monk (talk) 15:56, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page
Further information: Misplaced Pages:Edit requests ShortcutIdeally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
