The Shaktawats descend from Shakti Singh (or Sakta), a son of Udai Singh II and the younger brother of Maharana Pratap. He allied with the Mughals, but returned to his brother's side at the Battle of Haldighati.
Notable bearers of the name include :
- Gajendra Singh Shaktawat, Indian cricketer
- Gulab Singh Shaktawat, Indian freedom fighter, social and political worker of Indian National Congress
