Description
Rally For Rivers is a campaign launched by Isha Foundation in 2017 to save the dying rivers of India. Rally for Rivers campaign was launched to create awareness on protecting rivers. The campaign was launched by Sadhguru. He requested people across the nation to join the campaign and show their support for the cause. Sadhguru, who addressed a gathering of more than 10000 people at Isha Yoga Centre, said water is one of the most fundamental requirements for life.
Journey
To create awareness and momentum amongst all sections of society and the government, Isha Foundation collaborated with the Ministry of Environment.
Conceived by Sadhguru, the rally flagged off from Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore on September 3 and culminate in Delhi on October 2, covering 13 states and 21 major cities. Sadhguru drove this entire stretch of 6560 km across India.
Plan by Isha Foundation
Isha Foundation offers a core solution to stabilize and revitalize the rivers. It involves creating and maintaining tree cover for a minimum of one kilometer on either side of the entire river length and half a kilometer for tributaries. The benefits of tree planting have been indisputably demonstrated by Project GreenHands.
Native forest trees would be planted in government-owned land along riverbanks. Organic fruit tree cultivation would be taken up on private farmers’ lands. This solution ensures that rivers are restored while also enhancing farmers’ livelihood by more than doubling their income in five years. The availability of fruit also improves nutritional intake among people.
Participation
An individual could give a missed call on phone no. 8000980009 for showing support to rally where one missed call would be counted as a citizen's vote and a minimum of 10 crore votes was needed.
Support by Celebrities
Celebrities like Salman Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Anupam Kher are among Bollywood celebrities who have support to Rally for Rivers campaign, urging fans and followers to help save the country’s rivers. Salman Khan also released video requesting people to support rally for the betterment of rivers of India. Salman’s brother, actor, and filmmaker Arbaaz Khan, too, called for bringing awareness for a better future.
