It is part of doggolingo (also known as doggo-speak), a language used frequently across the Internet. Other related terms in this language include pupper (baby doggo), pupperino (very small doggo), blop (the dog breed pug), sploot (the dog breed corgi) and woofer & subwoofer (german shepard it's pupper). Doggos are described as "big ol' puppers", whereas puppers are "tiny doggos". The slang words were popularized by sites such as Reddit and Tumblr. The circulation of doggo initially begun as part of pop culture and the meme culture. However, as the saying goes 'dogs are a man's best friend' attributing the rise of the doggo to the emotional connection humans hold with dogs.
