DYK for Ryan Gauld
On 2 January 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ryan Gauld, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that British media have compared the Scottish footballer Ryan Gauld to Lionel Messi? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ryan Gauld. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Edit to Austin McCann
Morning Jellyman! I noticed you made an edit to the page Austin McCann at the start of December. I'm unclear as to exactly why the inclusion of the succession box is not appropriate. Is it because the player/club are perhaps not as noteworthy as others, or because this type of template is to be used primarily for, say, governmental positions and not sporting positions?
Thanks, Exxy (talk) 10:06, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for the response and for providing the link to the discussion. Whilst I personally don't think it does any harm using succession boxes in this way, I appreciate that the consensus of users is that using them for sporting positions is problematic. I had added them to a few other pages but I'll remove them when I get a moment. Thanks again! Exxy (talk) 13:33, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Scottish Women's Premier League, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Airdrie. Misplaced Pages:The 10,000 Challenge
Hi. I've noticed the good work you do on here. I was wondering if you'd be interested in contributing to this ambitious British Isles challenge to bringing about 10,000 improvements to the UK and Ireland. The drive is fuelled by regional contests every few months. We will get to Scotland in the new year sometime. If you'd be interested in chipping in with the articles you improve please add your name to the participants and start adding your entries to the big list. Diversity of input will make it much more interesting to peruse! Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:29, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
Invite to the African Destubathon
Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Misplaced Pages:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Misplaced Pages:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoLo dicono a Signa. 09:11, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
Hello, Jellyman. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Quick thanks
Just a quick acknowledgement of your rollback of the 'spit the dummy' edits by our weegie IP user. Trying to get my stuff deleted because I disagreed with theirs (but tried to encourage a discussion as you did), not great. Crowsus (talk) 14:32, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
Edit: Just noticed another 'speedy deletion' tag on a page I created William James Chrystal. It's from a different IP but those are the only edits ever from that IP so it doesn't take Poirot to work out what's going on. Could you have a look at it please? (I suppose you may also feel the subject is not notable although it seems OK to me).Crowsus (talk) 14:45, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks again jellyman, not sure if you're watching my talk so I'll put it here. I will send a quick message to the other editors involved in this wee spat, maybe they are being targeted for pettiness as well. Looks like a VPN is involved, any way round that? You can't really block a user that way...?Crowsus (talk) 16:37, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Can we get some input in resolving an edit dispute?
Hello Jellyman. I am hoping that you can lend some assistance. Me and user GiantSnowman need assistance in resolving an edit dispute concerning the kit section that was in the Nigerian national football team article. He removed it citing WP:NOTGALLERY. I disagree with his interpretation and I have shared my reasons on the talk page at WikiProject Football. We request the input of members of this project in order to resolve this issue. Your assistance would be appreciated if you have the time. Thanks! unak 16:31, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

Half back
Hello. Don't think I agree with your change of redirect target at half back (association football). Midfielder#Wing half is half a line in the Wide midfielder section that doesn't really says what the wing half did and doesn't mention the central half-back position at all. You're obviously correct that it's a position, not a formation: the redirect used to target the centre-back section of defender, which at the time had enough historical content to give the reader an idea of the half-back positions. A couple of years ago, when the historical content was edited out, I changed it to point to the Pyramid formation, which does at least mention what half backs did.
It does bother me a little that an encyclopedia has more content on something called a "False 10" or "central winger", which I've never actually heard of, than it does on a position that was basic to football teams for decades: daresay the answer is I should stop moaning and write a decent half-back article... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:02, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- Would linking to the last paragraph of Association football positions#Centre-back be an improvement? it mentions where the half-back line was, and contains a link to the pyramid formation. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:00, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject Women in Red/The World Contest
Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.
